My Dear GuardianĀ Episode 17 Recap
> My Dear GuardianĀ Recap
Liang Muze and Xia Chu discussed their shared experiences, including Liang Muze's commitment to his professional values as a soldier. Liang Muze then inquired if Xia Chu's insomnia, previously linked to Zhuo Ran, was truly cured or merely suppressed. Xia Chu questioned what that had to do with him, but before Liang Muze could answer, their conversation was cut short.
Tian Yong arrived, explaining that he couldn't sleep due to the heavy rain and offered to stay with the captain so Xia Chu could rest. The following morning, the rain had subsided. The man they had rescued from the island, later identified by Liang Muze as Gui (who had previously escaped from a medical forum), awoke and struggled, attempting to pull out his drainage tube. Xia Chu quickly administered a sedative to calm him.
After he was stabilized, they transported him to the hospital. Liang Muze promptly notified Rao Feng, who dispatched two police officers, Li Lei and Xiao Qiang, to guard Gui's hospital room, intending to interrogate him once he fully recovered. Rao Feng also mentioned a report about a stolen fishing boat, which matched the one found on the island, and wanted to question Gui about it, but Gui was still unconscious.
Before leaving the hospital, Liang Muze cautioned Xia Chu to be careful while treating Gui, as he was a suspect. Xia Chu acknowledged the warning and then offered Liang Muze a jar of cherry paste she had made. Meanwhile, Xia Guang Yuan discovered his email account had been hacked. An unknown party had impersonated him, requesting clinical trial data from Tang Lin.
Rushing home to check, Xia Guang Yuan was dismayed to find that the data had been compromised, leaving him feeling desperate. After Liang Muze departed, Xia Chu returned to her office for her shift. Noticing Xia Chuās fatigue from being awake all night, Xiao Xiao offered to swap shifts, citing that Dr. Zhang Yichi was aware of Xia Chu's situation and would approve. Xia Chu, grateful for the offer, headed home to rest.
Upon arriving, she found her living room in disarray, a result of Liang Shaoxue's antics. While Xia Chu was frustrated about the mess, Liang Shaoxue scrolled through Xia Chuās social media and discovered that her beloved parrot, OK, was currently with Tian Yong at the military camp. Infuriated, Liang Shaoxue immediately headed to the base. At the military camp's entrance, Liang Shaoxue recklessly attempted to break the checkpoint. Fortunately, Tian Yong was nearby and intervened.
Liang Muze quickly arrived to find Liang Shaoxue biting Tian Yong. He reprimanded her for her disruptive behavior and lack of common sense, reminding her of the strict rules of a military base. Liang Shaoxue sarcastically retorted that no one had taught her common sense or good manners, complaining that their parents were too busy with their own lives (traveling, socializing, solving cases) to care for them, seeing them as less important than golf clubs or cases.
She also expressed sadness about not being invited to the New Year's party. Tian Yong then brought OK to her. Liang Shaoxue was furious to discover that Tian Yong had taught her parrot to recite Tang Dynasty poetry, specifically Chen Zi Ang's "Song of the Youzhou Exile," instead of her preferred vulgarities. Liang Muze announced he would seek permission from Brigade Commander Dong Zhigang to take Liang Shaoxue home, instructing Tian Yong to keep an eye on her.
Dong Zhigang reprimanded Liang Muze for bringing Liang Shaoxue, an "overseas personnel," into the military base without proper security procedures. Initially, Liang Shaoxue declared she no longer wanted the parrot, but when Tian Yong gently asked who would talk to her if she left it behind, she was visibly touched and pulled him closer to express her sincere thanks. Separately, Zhang Yichi had driven Chen Mengzhen and Luo Xiaojun home.
While Chen Mengzhen went to buy some food, Luo Xiaojun, sensing Zhang Yichi's affection for his mother, directly asked if he would marry her. Zhang Yichi hesitated, admitting he wasn't sure. Luo Xiaojun, disappointed, called him a coward and declared that both he and his mother disliked cowards. Feeling choked, Zhang Yichi quickly excused himself, bidding Chen Mengzhen farewell. Later, Long Yi informed Zhuo Ran that Gui had been hospitalized.
Zhuo Ran, acting on this information, disguised himself as a doctor and successfully distracted the guarding police officers, Li Lei and Xiao Qiang, allowing him to abduct Gui from the hospital. Upon learning of Guiās escape, Xia Chu was deeply concerned and immediately returned to the hospital to review surveillance footage.
Recalling Gui's behavior on the island, specifically his frantic attempts to reach for the secret compartment on the fishing boat, Xia Chu deduced that he would return to retrieve something vital hidden there. She promptly contacted Liang Muze to ascertain the fishing boat's location, the Xiangsheng Shipyard, and headed there. Rao Feng's team was also en route to the shipyard. At the shipyard, Zhuo Ran and Long Yi interrogated Gui.
Under duress, Gui confessed that he had hidden the drugs in the boat's secret compartment. Desperate for his life, Gui pleaded with Zhuo Ran, offering to reveal the truth about how Zhuo Ran's father died and suggesting that Zhuo Ran's family had been manipulated by "the old man," who used his mother's illness to control him. Seeing Zhuo Ran's hesitation, Long Yi swiftly took Zhuo Ran's weapon and shot Gui, staging the scene to appear as a suicide.
Zhuo Ran then instructed Long Yi to place Gui's thumb on the gun's trigger to reinforce the illusion. By the time the police and Xia Chu arrived, Gui was dead. Rao Feng spoke with Xia Chu, who recounted Gui's fixation on the boat's secret compartment during his rescue, strengthening her belief that valuable items were hidden there. However, the secret compartment on the boat was found to be empty, suggesting the items had been moved.
Forensic examination of Gui's body and the scene revealed no signs of struggle, leading to a preliminary conclusion of suicide. However, the discovery of a 3D-printed plastic handgun as the murder weapon complicated this assessment, as it was highly improbable for a severely injured patient like Gui to travel from the hospital to the shipyard alone and commit suicide.
Liang Muze soon arrived and recognized the 3D-printed gun, connecting it to a past incident where his own medication had been tampered with. He voiced his suspicions, implying Zhuo Ranās involvement. Overwhelmed by the situation, Xia Chu declared her need for solitude and left the scene. As she walked down the road, Zhuo Ran deliberately swerved a car toward her. Panicked, Xia Chu tried to flee but lost her footing and tumbled down a slope. She couldn't see the driver of the car. Fortunately, Liang Muze arrived just in time to rescue and comfort her.
