My Dear GuardianĀ Episode 10 Recap
> My Dear GuardianĀ Recap
Zhang Yichi observed Mi Gu's unspoken affection for Zhuo Ran and advised her that there was no point in pursuing someone whose heart wasn't with her. He also suggested that if she truly intended to pursue Zhuo Ran, she should first be open with Xia Chu to avoid future awkwardness, speaking from his own past experiences. Mi Gu later thanked Zhang Yichi after a work discussion.
Meanwhile, Zhuo Ran approached Zhang Yichi for assistance with his application to an overseas research institute, highlighting his background in innovative scientific research. Despite Zhang Yichi's initial reluctance, he eventually agreed to inquire with Director Chen on Zhuo Ran's behalf. Later, Zhuo Ran went to Xia Chu's office and, while she was avoiding him, inserted a USB drive into her computer, hacking into it and obtaining her files. As Xia Chu was working on patient orders, her computer suddenly malfunctioned.
Zhuo Ran offered to help, but Xia Chu decided to call the IT department. The IT specialist confirmed all data could be recovered and advised her to close unnecessary pages and shut down the computer properly after work. Zhuo Ran then persistently waited for Xia Chu to finish her work, insisting they have dinner together. Xia Chu, unable to refuse him, finally agreed.
During their dinner, Zhuo Ran reflected on their past, questioning why Xia Chu hadn't transferred to a military hospital in Dongan, her hometown. He also mentioned knowing her old home was in Ningjiang. Xia Chu pretended to have forgotten. Zhuo Ran reminisced about their high school days as deskmates, recalling a time he waited for her until a shop closed, but she never appeared. He promised that such a disappointment wouldn't happen again.
Xia Chu, however, countered his sentiment, stating she had already moved on from their past, a claim Zhuo Ran seemed to doubt. After dinner, Xia Chu went to meet Mi Gu, who was live-streaming and complaining about feeling tired. Suddenly, an unknown man approached Mi Gu, claiming they had met before and that he had fallen in love with her at first sight. He even knew personal details about her.
As he grew aggressive, Xia Chu intervened, helping Mi Gu ward off the harassing man. Afterward, Xia Chu and Mi Gu chatted. Mi Gu asked Xia Chu about her dinner with Zhuo Ran and if she still had feelings for him. Xia Chu admitted Zhuo Ran knew her dietary preferences intimately, from fresh ingredients to specific flavors and drinks like Ramune soda.
However, she mused that if a relationship was solely based on shared meal habits, it would be good, but for her, commitment often held more importance than love itself. The next day, Zhuo Ran sent afternoon tea to Xia Chu's department, a gesture that impressed her colleagues who noted his detailed knowledge of their preferences. Xia Chu called Zhuo Ran to thank him briefly before hanging up.
Shortly after, Xia Chu saw a notice about recruiting hospital volunteers for flood relief efforts and immediately decided to sign up with Zhang Yichi. When Xiao Xiao, who was originally scheduled to go, learned that Xia Chu had volunteered, she assumed she wouldn't have to go.
However, Zhang Yichi firmly told Xiao Xiao that while Xia Chu was volunteering out of conviction, it was Xiao Xiao's duty to go, emphasizing that it was her turn after all other resident doctors had participated. Despite being offered a rare opportunity to observe a heart transplant surgery, Xia Chu insisted on going to the disaster area, seeing it as a rare "war doctor" experience in peaceful times.
Zhang Yichi then instructed both Xia Chu and Xiao Xiao to complete the necessary forms. Before leaving, Xia Chu entrusted Er Miao, her cat, to Mi Gu's care. She then wondered if she should bring some sleep medicine for Liang Muze, eventually deciding to do so after prompting her cat. Zhuo Ran, who was monitoring Xia Chu via surveillance audio, was alarmed by her concern for Liang Muze.
Xia Chu and her medical team set off for the disaster area by bus. During the journey, Xiao Xiao voiced her fear of dying, admitting she had never performed surgery before. Their bus experienced a sudden tire burst, and the old squad leader with them lacked the necessary tools for a replacement. Xia Chu quickly flagged down a passing military vehicle, which turned out to be Liang Muze's Special Force Brigade.
Liang Muze immediately ordered his men to assist with the tire change. Unexpectedly, the old squad leader suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness. Liang Muze swiftly directed his team to move him onto their truck and set up a temporary tent for examination. With only Xia Chu and Xiao Xiao present from the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, both inexperienced in live surgery, they were initially overwhelmed. The old squad leader's blood pressure dropped critically, and his pulse became very weak.
Xiao Xiao was unsure, initially suspecting myocardial ischemia. However, Xia Chu, recalling the patient's initial symptoms, suspected acute haemopneumothorax, noting a large amount of blood in the pericardial cavity from a previous heart echo. She advised against certain medications that could increase myocardial oxygen consumption. Realizing the patient wouldn't survive transport to a medical station, Liang Muze decisively ordered them to perform an immediate pericardiotomy.
Despite Xiao Xiao's protests about being only a resident, Liang Muze instructed Xia Chu to proceed, guiding her through the initial incision along the Xiphoid process. Under immense pressure, Xia Chu located the bleeding, managed the patient's shock, and successfully sutured the tear in the heart, stabilizing his condition. After the successful surgery, Liang Muze ensured the old squad leader was safely transferred and then directed his troop to take Xia Chu and her team to the base.
Observing that Xia Chu's jacket was left behind on her bus, Liang Muze offered her his own jacket. Xia Chu then handed him the sleep medicine she had brought, advising him to take only one pill if he couldn't sleep. Back in Dongan, Zhuo Ran arrived at Xia Chu's family home with gifts, surprising Xia Chu's mother. He claimed Xia Chu had asked him to check on them.
Zhuo Ran then fabricated a story about his mother's severe illness being the reason for his sudden departure during high school, stating she was now reliant on medication, and apologized for not saying goodbye to Xia Chu properly. He also mentioned seeing Xia Guang Yuan's new research findings online, though Xia Chu's mother seemed more concerned with her husband's daily well-being. Shortly after, Xia Guang Yuan returned home.
Recognizing Zhuo Ran, he coldly reminded him of the tears Xia Chu had shed because of him. He explicitly told Zhuo Ran that attempting to reconcile with Xia Chu through her parents would be futile and asked him to leave with his gifts. As Zhuo Ran left, he saw Xia Guang Yuan's car and deliberately punctured one of its tires.
A moment later, he "coincidentally" encountered Xia Guang Yuan, attributing the tire damage to some children he claimed to have seen running away. Knowing Xia Guang Yuan was in a hurry to get to his research institute, Zhuo Ran offered him a ride, mentioning his work in 3D printing technology, specifically in medicine and organ printing, and gave him his business card, emphasizing the broad applications of 3D printing.
Xia Guang Yuan, pressed for time, reluctantly accepted the ride and the business card. Back at the disaster relief station, Xia Chu received praise for her successful surgery. Later, a soldier from the Special Force Brigade came to the medical station to collect medicine. Xia Chu, after providing him with cold medication, learned that several of their comrades had fallen ill.
The soldier explained that their captain, Liang Muze, had been personally leading the charge at the dam for several nights, enduring without food or sleep. He lamented that no one, not even their brigade commander, could persuade Liang Muze to rest, and he suggested that Xia Chu might be able to.
