Nan Xing is speechless, thinking Xiao Wudi is being self-indulgent. Xiao Wudi assumes she’s just too shy to admit it and says he’ll date her and then dump her hard—give her a love she’ll never forget. Nan Xing finds it hilarious and makes him repeat it, then takes out her phone to record a video. Xiao Wudi starts doubting himself—how could Nan Xing not like him? Xiao Wudi can't sleep all night.

He just can’t believe Nan Xing doesn't like him—he needs to confirm it himself. Nan Xing dreams while calling his name, but Xiao Wudi doesn’t hear the second half. Although she says his name, she actually tells him to take his stinky money and hurry back to ancient times. Xiao Wudi thinks Nan Xing is just playing coy and asks Sisi about her. Sisi, tempted by Xiao Wudi’s fried chicken drumstick, blurts out the kind of person Nan Xing likes.

Xiao Wudi learns that while Nan Xing does swoon over handsome guys, she’s never truly liked anyone—unless it’s someone she can emotionally resonate with. Lu Zichen kills off the heroine Su Yu in his novel, causing a viral uproar online. Many fans turn on him. Ye Qing is frustrated and scrambles to do PR. Song Jiaming wants to meet Ye Qing, but she has no time. She thinks Lu Zichen is mad at her but can’t find him.

Nan Xing can’t understand why Lu Zichen would kill off the heroine and desperately wants to help the company solve the issue. Xiao Wudi tries to figure out her feelings and pretends to confide in her about his background to see if she cares. Unfortunately, Nan Xing says she’s sad—but not because of Xiao Wudi. She says she’s heartbroken that the character Su Yu, whom she’s loved for years, was killed.

That character accompanied her through adolescence, and she just can’t accept it. Fans protest at the company, demanding Lu Zichen bring back their goddess Su Yu. Nan Xing accidentally overhears a fight between Ye Qing and Lu Zichen over the matter. Lu Zichen doesn’t want Ye Qing dating anyone, and Ye Qing is upset he made the decision without consulting her. Lu Zichen catches Nan Xing listening.

She tries to deliver a package and leave, but finds a dead pigeon soaked in blood inside—a threat from a reader. Lu Zichen tells her to throw it away and not tell anyone. Nan Xing insists on reporting it, saying it’s dangerous. During the argument, she completely forgets her stammer and only remembers afterward that she talked back to Lu Zichen. Determined to catch the suspect who sent the package, Nan Xing asks Xiao Wudi for help.

She believes, based on the plot of the novel, the perpetrator will return that night. Lu Zichen thinks she’s just trying to impress him and secure her position. Nan Xing admits that after her family’s accident, she hit rock bottom emotionally and was saved by Lu Zichen’s novels. That’s why she wants to do this job well. The culprit really does show up. Xiao Wudi chases him. Nan Xing follows and finds Xiao Wudi covered in blood, thinking he’s dying.

Just as she breaks down crying, Xiao Wudi wakes up—it was all a prank. Nan Xing is furious. She had cried so hard. Xiao Wudi apologizes and thanks her, saying it was just a joke. Nan Xing makes him promise never to joke like that again. Ye Qing hears about Nan Xing’s bravery and scolds Lu Zichen for being reckless, telling Nan Xing to take her job seriously and approves her probationary period.

Ye Qing thinks Lu Zichen is too capricious and keeps everything from her. Death threats from readers are no small matter. Lu Zichen is speechless before her. Ye Qing calls the police to educate the revenge-seeking reader. On the way home, Nan Xing thanks Xiao Wudi for showing up and apologizes for making him take the risk. Xiao Wudi congratulates her—Ye Qing has officially approved her. Nan Xing worries about workplace gossip. Xiao Wudi encourages her.
