Fang Lu, distraught about being told to cut her long hair for a role, tearfully called Hou Jue, claiming she didn't want to live. Hou Jue, concerned, asked for her location and set off to meet her. Meanwhile, Xiao Min, acting on Ma Zong's instructions to maintain her image as single, posted online about watching a touching movie and crying, anticipating her upcoming blind date.

Upon arriving at the set, Fang Lu excitedly greeted Hou Jue and quickly led him to the makeup room, pointing accusatorily at online celebrity Doudou. Fang Lu insisted that Doudou was bullying her and forcing her to cut her hair. Hou Jue, confused, questioned how cutting hair could be considered bullying, a sentiment echoed by Doudou, who clarified that she had no authority over the director's decision and that a new hairstyle could even boost Fang Lu's popularity.

Fang Lu, undeterred, threatened Doudou, declaring Hou Jue as her boyfriend and the "Childe of Zhirong Construction," and presenting Wu Shiyi as his bodyguard, capable of easily "crushing" her. Doudou retaliated by threatening to live stream the escalating confrontation, prompting Hou Jue to quickly usher Fang Lu outside to avoid a public spectacle. Outside, Fang Lu continued to cry, berating Hou Jue for not helping her and Wu Shiyi for remaining silent.

Hou Jue patiently explained that Wu Shiyi's role was to protect his personal safety, not to act as a "thug." He tried to rationalize the haircut as a professional requirement for her craft, which only made Fang Lu cry harder. She eventually declared she would "sacrifice herself for art" and returned inside. As they drove away, Hou Jue expressed pity for Fang Lu, describing her as "too kind and too simple," believing that such innocence often leads to offending people.

Wu Shiyi, however, remained unmoved. She pointed out that Fang Lu was beautiful, wore designer clothes, had many admirers as an online celebrity, and even had Hou Jue driving over 200 kilometers to comfort her. Wu Shiyi felt that work-related grievances were common, and Fang Lu's situation was not particularly pitiable.

Hou Jue disagreed, insisting that Fang Lu was a "little girl" who hadn't experienced much and needed a man's protection, a statement that made Wu Shiyi visibly roll her eyes. Later, Fang Lu, still reluctant to cut her hair, negotiated with the director to try a dirty braid, which was ultimately approved for its unique "identification." Elsewhere, Hai Xing was nursing his aching body after a physical encounter with Qian Qian.

Doll, seeing his discomfort, offered him a massage and proceeded to tell a lengthy story about her father, a veterinarian who eventually became a successful massage therapist. Back at Zhirong Construction, Hou Jue presented his revised project proposal to the department managers. He had converted the original reticulated shell structure to a grid structure, addressing some previous concerns.

However, Bao Xiaohan, while acknowledging some merit, raised questions about the new material's untested use near the coast for the "Haicheng 8" project, citing potential corrosion and maintenance costs. Hou Jue confidently asserted that the material's parameters proved it would be problem-free. Hou Zhirong, the company head, abruptly cut off the discussion about the new material, as it had been debated before, and asked Bao Xiaohan to present his own proposal, much to Hou Jue's frustration.

Upset by his father's public interruption, Hou Jue initially decided to go home. Wu Shiyi confronted him, suggesting he was acting like a "deserter" because his father criticized him. Hou Jue admitted he was frustrated by the lack of "respect and trust," not just the criticism. Wu Shiyi then shared a personal story about her mother, Zhang Yingnan, whom she once perceived as a "witch" for constantly criticizing her efforts.

It wasn't until she won her first gold medal and her mother praised her that Wu Shiyi understood her mother's "suppression" was not a lack of trust but a desire for her to excel. Inspired by this, Hou Jue changed his mind and decided to return to the office to continue working on his proposal. Meanwhile, Qian Qian met her blind date, Ma Bao Man, at a hospital.

He immediately assessed her physical attributes and bluntly stated he wanted them to undergo an "examination of eugenics" to ensure their child had "quality genes," suggesting they wouldn't waste each other's time if any "hereditary defects" were found. Annoyed by his crassness, Qian Qian loudly pretended that Ma Bao Man had infertility, causing him to panic and flee the hospital. At Zhirong Construction, Ma Zong informed Hou Zhirong about cash flow issues due to unpaid receivables.

Hou Zhirong instructed him to secure a bank loan. Their conversation then turned to Ma Zong's expiring contract, with Hou Zhirong jokingly referring to him as an "integral part" of the company and expressing his intent for Ma Zong to continue assisting Hou Jue, even if he himself retired. In a later meeting, Bao Xiaohan presented his plan. Hou Jue, after acknowledging his previous "attitude problem" and apologizing to Hou Zhirong, presented his own refined plan.

He openly critiqued Bao Xiaohan's design as "very conventional" and lacking "highlights," arguing that a "fixed mindset" within the company was stifling innovative designs. He then invited everyone to contribute "valuable opinions and suggestions" to his plan, offering a case of red wine as a reward. This gesture earned him praise from the attendees, including Hou Zhirong and a proud Wu Shiyi.

Wu Shiyi observed Bao Xiaohan's somewhat displeased expression and later suggested that Hou Jue should apologize to him for his blunt criticism. However, Hou Jue dismissed the idea, stating that in business, "good is good, bad is bad," and that men should accept defeat, just as he had adapted quickly to the company.

Concurrently, Fang Lu discovered she had missed a morning training session because the notification, which should have been delivered by her rival Doudou, was merely slipped under her door instead of being personally conveyed. During a casual chat in the tea room, Ma Zong inadvertently revealed to Hou Jue that Hou Zhirong had paid off one of Hou Jue's ex-girlfriends to break up with him. This revelation struck Hou Jue profoundly, confirming his suspicions about his breakup with Huang Yue.

Enraged, Hou Jue confronted his father, expressing disgust that feelings could be commodified. He then stormed off, determined to confront Huang Yue, feeling like a fool for being kept in the dark while she moved on and married someone else. Wu Shiyi drove him to Bai Quan's dental clinic, where Huang Yue now worked. At the clinic, Huang Yue acknowledged Hou Jue's discovery. She explained that she didn't "betray their feelings" but rather "saved him a path."

She stated that Hou Jue's marriage was intertwined with his "family business," requiring him to marry someone "of equal status" to elevate his family's enterprise and his own standing, a role she could never fulfill.

Huang Yue disclosed that she used the million dollars to pay off her parents' debts from her education in the US, buy a car, and rent a storefront to open her dream bakery – a goal she had mentioned to Hou Jue countless times, but he never took seriously. She explained that she preferred "grasping what she could now" over an "unpredictable future," finding safety in her independent venture.

She yearned for a "stable life," to "get married," and "live a simple life," but Hou Jue, like a "child who never grows up," could not provide her with a sense of security, unlike Bai Quan. Just then, Bai Quan appeared, protectively stepping in front of Huang Yue. Hou Jue, humbled by Huang Yue's words, apologized to Bai Quan for the disruption he caused at their wedding and sincerely wished them a happy life together.

News of Hou Jue's growing closeness with Fang Lu quickly reached Hou Zhirong. He expressed concern that Hou Jue was too soft-hearted and easily manipulated by "girls with bad intentions," deeming him unsuitable to inherit the family business, which required a clear and decisive mind. He felt his revelation about Huang Yue was a necessary, albeit painful, lesson. Wu Shiyi, observing Hou Jue's despondency, remarked that there was no "right or wrong" between him and Huang Yue, only differing "values."

Hou Jue, however, placed the blame squarely on his father, feeling that Hou Zhirong prevented him from living life on his own terms. Shortly after, Fang Lu sent Hou Jue a message, asking why he hadn't visited her in a long time. Hou Jue, without hesitation, decided to buy her a necklace as a comforting gesture.

At the mall, he awkwardly explained to Wu Shiyi that he felt bad for not being able to help Fang Lu earlier and that the gift was to make her feel better. Wu Shiyi simply stated that such explanations were "not within my scope of work," to which Hou Jue sheepishly admitted he just wanted someone to talk to.

Meanwhile, Lan Zong arrived at a hotel, quickly noticing and ordering changes to the unsuitable music and floral arrangements, instructing them to be replaced with orchids. She then received an update that the "Wu Tianyi" she was searching for had resigned years ago and only a potentially outdated contact number remained. Lan Zong took the number and called for a meeting of all department managers in fifteen minutes.
