Xiang Mankui waited for Han Qilu all day, but he didn't come. She called him, and he apologized, saying he couldn't make it. Xiang Mankui insisted, "No matter how late, I'll wait for you." Han Qilu apologized again and asked her to go home. Meanwhile, Han Qilu and An Chuxia were in a taxi heading to Huiyang. An Chuxia changed her mind, saying, "Qi Lu, I don't want to look for him anymore. Forget it. Let's go home."
Han Qilu asked if she was afraid. She admitted she didn't feel like meeting someone she hadn't seen in over a decade. He reassured her, "Don't be afraid. There's something you have to face. Moreover, I'll be with you." Han Qilu's phone rang – a call from Ren Ai Hospital using Xiang Mankui's phone. The hospital staff said Xiang Mankui had an acute gastritis attack, fainted in the street, and a passerby brought her in.

She hadn't spent it, supporting herself through scholarships and jobs like dishwashing, food delivery, and car washing to prove her independence from the Han family. She didn't want to be seen as useless and dependent on Han Qilu. Han Qilu reassured her not to worry about others' opinions, but Xiang Mankui insisted she needed to convince herself. When Han Qilu asked why she returned, she confessed that after leaving him, she realized she wasn't truly herself.
She apologized, admitting she was wrong and asking for his forgiveness. Han Qilu said it was okay, that he'd stopped blaming her long ago. He embraced her. An Chuxia quietly left the room. After Han Qilu left, Xiang Mankui was alone, replaying the events. She directly apologized to An Chuxia, admitting she couldn't lose Han Qilu because he was all she had. This revealed the entire scene was a fabrication orchestrated by Xiang Mankui, who'd deliberately taken An Chuxia's phone to ensure their return and manipulate the situation to gain Han Qilu's sympathy. The next morning, Han Qilu arrived early to pick up Xiang Mankui. She thanked him for handling her discharge.
As they walked to school, students noticed them, speculating about a reconciliation. Xiang Mankui asked Han Qilu if he was worried An Chuxia would misunderstand or about what people would say. Han Qilu simply replied that he never cared what people say. Later, An Chuxia and Meng Xiaonan saw a poster for a Youth Design Competition with a grand prize of studying at the Pinkston Institute of Design in France.
