Love a Lifetime Episode 45 (Ending) Recap
> Love a Lifetime Recap
After Lin Jing is injured and made to spit blood by Mo Huan, Rong Hua, seeing her beloved suffer, takes a sharp weapon and plunges it into Mo Huan. Instantly, Mo Huan's black hair turns white, and her youthful face transforms into a wrinkled visage. Mo Huan, shocked, exclaims, "How could this be?" She declares to Rong Hua, "You still want to rule the whole martial world? Dream on! I won't lose. I'll never lose in my life.
When the queen worms die, your wound will never heal." Rong Hua, in her fading moments, whispers an apology to Lin Jing, "Yue, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have hidden it from you. To see you one last time is truly wonderful." As Rong Hua weakly falls into Lin Jing's embrace, he urgently calls out to her, distressed, "Hua, why did you do this?"
He continues to call her name, and believing her to be gone, states, "With Rong Hua accompanying me on the way to the Underworld, I won't feel lonely." Meanwhile, outside the city, a swarm of Ling Sect disciples launches a fierce assault, and the Nalan clan fights to the death.
Lu Yizhou, already repeatedly wounded and overwhelmed, instructs Bai Weizhi to aid Lin Jing, as Lin Jing should have rescued the Madam by now and reunited with them, but is likely trapped by Mo Huan. Bai Weizhi promises to bring them back safely. Lu Yizhou then tells his companions to protect themselves and fight their way out together.
He turns to Rong Su, imploring her not to use her internal power, to which she replies that he must also promise to leave with him. Recalling a past moment when she was too stubborn to follow him, Rong Su now confesses that she understands what truly matters and hopes her realization isn't too late.
Lu Yizhou questions why she didn't leave with the others if she understood, and she admits her concern for him, asking what he would do alone. He insists she leave at the first opportunity, assuring her he will find her himself and won't let anything happen to him. As they fight, Lu Yizhou takes an arrow, sustaining a severe injury near his heart.
Despite Rong Su's desperate pleas not to leave, he urges her to go, warning that both will die if she stays. Concerned about her condition, he again reminds her not to use her internal power. He then orders his disciples to forcibly take Rong Su away, stating he will handle things there and then go to assist Lin Jing. Rong Su protests, crying out that he cannot leave her, that he promised to wait, and begging him not to lie.
As she is dragged away, Lu Yizhou quietly bids her to "Take care." Inside Dragon Howl City, Cang Qi follows orders and commands his disciples to set the city ablaze, declaring that from now on, "there will be no Dragon Howl City." Outside, Rong Su is escorted to safety by Nalan clansmen who explain her severe injuries make travel difficult, and they are grateful to meet Jinque and her husband who were awaiting them.
Rong Su, however, just wants to be left alone for a while. As they watch, Dragon Howl City erupts in flames, causing despair among the onlookers. Jinque's husband expresses concern for Rong Su, noting her emotional pain at seeing her family's legacy destroyed. Rong Su, reflecting on her past actions, acknowledges her betrayal of the Supreme Master, stating that everything she did for the Ling Sect was against her will, done only for her master's sake.
Now, she desires only to be herself and avoid further conflicts. Her thoughts return to Lu Yizhou, desperately hoping he will return so she can bid him a final farewell, affirming he is the only one she has now. A nearby voice pronounces that with Dragon Howl City and the Ling Sect destroyed, the chaos has finally ended. Lin Jing and his remaining brothers battle their way out of the encirclement.
Lin Jing supports a fading Lu Yizhou, urging him to hold on for Rong Su. Lu Yizhou, however, is resigned, explaining he let Rong Su leave first because he didn't want her to see him in such a state. He asks Lin Jing to tell Rong Su he went somewhere else on business and wouldn't know when he'd return, and to take care of her, if she still holds hope.
Lin Jing vehemently refuses to accept this, insisting that Lu Yizhou must live to rebuild the Nalan family and that he would not know how to face Rong Su otherwise. Lu Yizhou, knowing his end is near, reaffirms his wishes, stating that he feels content to be remembered by so many. Lin Jing tries to motivate him by reminding him of his former lively self and playfully dismissing his talk of repaying debts in the next life, even childhood ones.
Lu Yizhou then makes a final, earnest request: that Lin Jing live well, travel, and experience all the beautiful sights and delicious foods he will now miss. He promises to clear all debts Lin Jing owes him. Lin Jing, still clinging to hope, tries to deflect, saying Lu Yizhou should do those things with Rong Su himself, as he is too busy. But Lu Yizhou finally collapses, unable to move further.
With his last breaths, he entrusts Rong Su's care to Lin Jing. Lin Jing, devastated, desperately tries to rouse his friend, but Lu Yizhou tragically dies in his arms. Three months later, the martial world finds a temporary peace. Rong Su, still recovering from her injuries, spends her days sitting in a pavilion, playing Go and speaking to an imaginary Lu Yizhou.
She muses about her improved Go skills and urges him to make his move, noting even Young Master Lu of Lingxu Pavilion is no match. Then, with a moment of trance, the deceased person seems to disappear, and she drops the piece, looking sad. Bai Weizhi arrives with her medicine, deeply saddened by her self-neglect. He gently chides her, warning that her legs will be crippled if she continues to torture herself.
Rong Su, however, expresses her longing for Lu Yizhou, hoping he would return and even scold her. Bai Weizhi reminds her that Lin Jing had explained that Lu Yizhou was seeking medicine for her recovery. Rong Su dismisses the idea of recovery, stating her only purpose is to wait for him, hoping for even a message to confirm his thoughts of her. She asks to be left alone, and Bai Weizhi, though hurt by her stubbornness, reflects on their past.
He acknowledges his own past favoritism towards Rong Hua due to her frail health, which led him to neglect Rong Su. He urges her to let go of her grief, arguing that life must go on, even for those who cannot forget. Rong Su then confronts him, asking if he has forgotten his own aunt, to which he admits he hasn't but reiterates that life continues regardless.
He advises her to find a new love, but his words do not reach her. Leaving the pavilion, Bai Weizhi worries that Lin Jing's decision to conceal Lu Yizhou's death has left Rong Su in a painful limbo, wishing they had had a proper farewell. Bai Weizhi, unable to convince Rong Su, eventually goes to the stream where Lin Jing is trying to pass the time by skipping stones.
Bai Weizhi playfully scolds Lin Jing for being hard to find, leading to some lighthearted banter. He then excitedly shares the good news that Rong Hua has woken up, and Lin Jing rushes back to their wooden house. Outside, Bai Su gently stops Bai Weizhi from entering, advising him to give the reunited couple some privacy after all they've been through, and even hints at hoping for grandchildren. Inside, Lin Jing and Rong Hua share a joyful reunion.
Rong Hua, radiating happiness, expresses her joy that their dream of a carefree life has finally come true. Lin Jing confesses he was so worried he almost planned to knock himself out to find her in his dreams. He assures her they will never be separated again, even by death. Rong Hua asks about his confidence in transferring the Chihua Pill (queen worm). Lin Jing reveals he had little certainty but acted out of desperation in a life-or-death situation.
He recounts how, when Mo Huan was on the verge of death and Rong Hua was gravely endangered, he chose to absorb the Chihua Pill from Mo Huan into his own body, despite knowing he would suffer the backlash again. In a flashback, he had defied Mo Huan, telling her that her power was meaningless without companionship, and that the counterattacking pain was nothing compared to Rong Hua's safety.
He promised that as long as he was safe, Rong Hua would be too, signifying his determination for a new era. Rong Hua, concerned, questioned if it was worth enduring the queen worm's control again for her sake. Lin Jing affirmed that eradicating evil and bringing peace to the martial world was worth it. With the Chihua Pill transferred to Lin Jing, Mo Huan rapidly aged, her face losing its youthful appearance, reverting to her old age.
In her final moments, Mo Huan lamented her ultimate defeat despite a lifetime of striving, expressing deep regret and wishing her disciples, Ruohan and Jingfeng, were still by her side, wondering how wonderful it would have been if they were still with her. Back inside, Lin Jing further elaborates on their intertwined fate, emphasizing that they are now bound together by both blessings and misfortunes.
He states that from now on, only a reckless Lin Jing remains, and all the past grievances of Na Lanyue have been buried with Dragon Howl City. He will protect himself for Rong Hua's sake. When Rong Hua asks about his future plans, Lin Jing enthusiastically shares his vision: to first have three chubby babies, one surnamed Lin, one Rong, and the third, Linrong. Rong Hua lovingly agrees to all his plans.
Meanwhile, outside, Bai Weizhi, still fuming about Lin Jing "stealing" his disciple, takes out his frustration by loudly cursing Lin Jing and attacking innocent vegetables, calling him treacherous, ungrateful, and a scoundrel who crossed the river and demolished the bridge. Bai Su arrives and, after some playful banter where Bai Weizhi complains about her favoritism towards Rong Hua, cleverly praises him as an "uncut gem," noting he's much more pleasing than other disciples.
Flattered, Bai Weizhi momentarily forgets his anger, only for Bai Su to then assign him the task of bathing "Weizhi Junior," a small turtle, much to his exasperation. Rong Hua then goes to visit Rong Su, who, now unable to walk and relying on crutches, is calm but reflective. Rong Su expresses that she ultimately ignored Rong Hua's earlier advice and used her internal power again, resulting in her current injuries and the loss of her martial arts.
She believes this is a fair consequence for her past karmic sins and mistakes, noting that losing her martial arts is a blessing in disguise. Rong Hua reassures her, stating that all her actions were for Dragon Howl City and that there's no right or wrong in their differing approaches. She promises that their grand-master will find a cure for her.
Rong Su, however, feels she has caused too much trouble for everyone, including Bai Weizhi and Bai Su, who had to move from Blackrock Mountain for the sake of Dragon Howl City. She states that with Dragon Howl City destroyed, she feels a newfound peace and asks them not to trouble themselves further for her.
Rong Hua counters that their help was given willingly, as they are family, adding that if Rong Su doesn't heal her injuries, she (Rong Hua) will feel guilty her whole life. Rong Su, however, feels she caused Rong Hua's suffering under Mo Huan. She decides to resign herself to her injuries, acknowledging her sister's love for travel. She encourages Rong Hua to live freely, pursuing her own desires, adding a playful warning to take Lin Jing away before they clash.
Rong Hua suggests they play a game of Go before she leaves, and Rong Su agrees. Having said their farewells, Lin Jing and Rong Hua embark on their journey together, hand in hand, for a life of peace and freedom. They playfully tease each other about the weather and past arguments.
Lin Jing reminds Rong Hua of their shared fate, where one's pain is felt by the other, wondering what there is to be happy about when they are so connected. He then dotingly asks her to choose their next destination, promising that whatever his wife says is right, and he will follow her lead completely. Rong Hua chooses to go east, to the place where her mother was born.
As they travel through scenic landscapes, the trials and tribulations of the martial world fade into the background. With shared fate, bound by the same "Gu" and unwavering love, the couple looks forward to a future where they will remain together through life and death, sharing bed and grave, having no regrets in this life.
