Han Shumin retorted that these were separate matters and accused her father of using the situation for a personal vendetta, leading Han Zhengliang to slap her and declare the Feng family their enemies, demanding she forget Feng Chengjun. Meanwhile, Xue Wenxi, deeply concerned about Feng Chengjun, intended to visit him. Yu Lexuan, however, stopped her, explaining that as the governor’s son and a valued student of Master Wang, Feng Chengjun would be safe if Han Zhengliang could not find evidence.
Yu Lexuan warned that a visit from Xue Wenxi would only provide Han Zhengliang with leverage, potentially undoing all their efforts. Feng Jichang vehemently denied the accusations of murder but admitted that the record clearly showed his own acceptance of bribes. He declared his intention to confess directly to Master Wang and demand a thorough investigation of all officials listed, starting with himself. Just then, Lord Mo arrived, sternly addressing Han Zhengliang. Lord Mo accused Han Zhengliang of violating His Majesty's edict by leading troops into the academy and assaulting a scholar, thereby becoming a criminal himself.
He asserted that Han Zhengliang, as a criminal, was unqualified to investigate the case. Supported by other officials, Lord Mo proposed that Master Wang preside over the case. Master Wang, the special envoy, agreed. He acknowledged Feng Jichang’s courageous act of sacrificing himself to expose Han Zhengliang's extensive network of cronies and dismantle his power in Yunzhou.
Master Wang assured Feng Jichang that his name would be cleared once the matter settled, and Feng Jichang accepted responsibility for a past wrongful case. Unbeknownst to them, Xue Wenxi had gone to the county yamen and turned herself in, claiming she was the one who spread the forbidden books and that Feng Chengjun had merely covered for her. Lei Zexin, having recovered, was talking to his father, Lei Qi Ying. Lei Qi Ying revealed that he was the masked man who had saved Xue Wenxi previously and explained that Xue Wenxi's master had severed ties with him years ago to protect his own family.
Lei Zexin apologized for his past misunderstanding, and Lei Qi Ying reassured him, urging him to live a safe and successful life. Lei Qi Ying also asserted that Lei Zexin had only distributed flyers and that the true murderer was someone else. He then met with Gu Zhe Yuan, who was recovering, and confirmed that the assassin had a distinct scar on his hand.
Lei Qi Ying revealed the assassin to be Commander Xu, who had since died from arrow wounds. Gu Zhe Yuan, realizing the implications, concluded that only Han Zhengliang could have commanded Commander Xu. Master Wang reviewed Feng Chengjun's case, presenting testimonies from teachers, scholars, and guards proving Feng Chengjun had not left the academy that night. He also noted that Lei Zexin's claims of an injured flyer distributor did not match Feng Chengjun's lack of injuries, thus proving his innocence.
Han Zhengliang admitted his oversight, stating he had not investigated further because Feng Chengjun had confessed. Master Wang then inquired about Wen Bin's (Xue Wenxi’s disguised identity) self-incrimination and ordered him to be transferred to the state government for personal interrogation. Master Wang also acknowledged that officials listed in the ledger had confirmed Feng Jichang's bribery. Feng Jichang admitted his guilt to Master Wang and encouraged Feng Chengjun to uphold justice regardless of the outcome.
Lei Zexin, upon hearing about Feng Chengjun and Wen Bin, became agitated, eager to save them. Lei Qi Ying calmed him, revealing that Feng Chengjun had already been released and Wen Bin was now under Master Wang's direct care, assuring his safety. However, Han Zhengliang secretly ordered Magistrate Tian to have Wen Bin (Xue Wenxi) killed while being escorted to the state government, to eliminate future problems. Although Feng Chengjun was cleared, he soon learned from Magistrate Tian that Wen Bin had already been transferred to the state government.
