Ye Qianyu returned from Mrs. Jiang's birthday banquet feeling disheartened and insignificant, realizing others could so easily accuse her and Mama Jinzhi of theft. Mama Jinzhi expressed her frustration, lamenting that wealthy people often look down on others, though Ye Qianyu tried to calm her. Later, Mama Jinzhi apologized to Ye Qianyu for putting her in an awkward position, and after struggling, finally managed to remove the bracelet that had been stuck on her wrist.
Ye Qianyu, still troubled, pondered how her family's humble background made them easy targets for such accusations, leading her to feel helpless. Taichu, offering comfort, reminded her that everyone is equal in the face of life's ultimate challenges and encouraged her not to let others' judgment define her. Ye Qianyu clarified that her feelings were not about Shan Junhao, as he and Tonghao were different.
Taichu then suggested she embrace freedom through travel, and Ye Qianyu confessed her longing for such freedom. Meanwhile, Mrs. Jiang sternly demanded that Shan Junhao fire Ye Qianyu. Shan Junhao refused, asserting that Ye Qianyu had done nothing wrong and that Senwell did not dismiss employees without proper cause. Mrs. Jiang, however, was convinced that Mama Jinzhi had attempted to steal her bracelet and accused Shan Junhao of defending Ye Qianyu.
Shan Junhao insisted that Mama Jinzhi was innocent and that he only wanted to avoid a scene at the party, but Mrs. Jiang remained suspicious of his motives. She then invoked his impending marriage to Fan Yunyi, urging him to fire Ye Qianyu to restore his life to its previous calm state.
Shan Junhao countered that he had no right to ruin someone's future and described Ye Qianyu as a kind girl, but Mrs. Jiang refused to listen, asking what Ye Qianyu had done to make him defend her so strongly. Shan Junhao simply reiterated that Ye Qianyu was not involved and left, citing work. Later, Fan Yunyi, curious about Ye Qianyu's unexpected role at the banquet, made a phone call to Joey, Ye Qianyu's superior.
Joey confirmed that Shan Junhao had indeed made a last-minute decision to reassign Ye Qianyu to the event, which saddened Fan Yunyi. Shan Junhao then called Fan Yunyi, telling her he needed to be alone and asked her not to wait up for him. Despite his request, Fan Yunyi vowed to wait and expressed her love for him, questioning if he loved her back. Shan Junhao evaded the question, simply telling her to rest.
Shan Junhao then drove to Guanmei Fishing Village, a place he felt strangely familiar with, and found Ye Qianyu there, lost in thought. He asked if Tonghao had brought her there before, to which she replied that the past was behind them. Ye Qianyu thanked him for his help earlier, but Shan Junhao dismissed her gratitude, saying she had only brought him trouble.
He confessed that he initially saw her as an ordinary, rude, and unpolished woman, yet she had inexplicably changed him, awakening feelings of jealousy and possessiveness he had never experienced. He admitted to constantly thinking about her, acknowledging his actions like retaliating against her bullies and deliberately making her a waitress at the banquet. He wanted to know how she, a person like her, could so profoundly influence his inner world, disrupting his thoughts and life.
Ye Qianyu, seeking to distance herself, apologized if she had caused him trouble and offered to disappear from his life. Shan Junhao, however, declared that he now understood love and pain because of her, and finally believed her stories about Tonghao, seeing the ring she wore as a sign of destiny. He pleaded for a chance.
Ye Qianyu lamented that she wished he had expressed such feelings when Tonghao left, but now they had moved on to separate lives, and she was trying to forget him. She proposed they go their separate ways, but Shan Junhao vehemently refused. Ye Qianyu explained that the social gap highlighted at the banquet made her realize a relationship between them would inevitably hurt many, including him. She resolved to pretend everything that had happened between them never occurred.
Shan Junhao insisted that Tonghao "was" him and pressed her on whether she truly felt nothing for him, pointing to the ring around her neck. In a decisive gesture, Ye Qianyu removed the ring and threw it into the sea, stating that just as she could put it on, she could also discard it, along with her memories of him. Upon returning home, Shan Junhao found Fan Yunyi waiting for him.
He confessed that he had been to Guanmei Fishing Village. Realizing the implications, Fan Yunyi was reluctant to hear more, but Shan Junhao proceeded to express his apologies, admitting his confusion about his own feelings had caused her distress. He concluded that continuing their engagement would only bring her more pain and suggested they reconsider their wedding plans. Fan Yunyi, stunned, refused to accept his decision, questioning if he had lost his mind.
Shan Junhao calmly asserted that he was clear about his feelings and what he wanted. Mrs. Jiang, overhearing, immediately intervened, accusing Ye Qianyu of entanglement and reminding Shan Junhao of his status as the General Manager of Senwell, the sole heir of the Shan family, and Fan Yunyi’s fiancé.
Shan Junhao clarified that he was the one pursuing Ye Qianyu and explained that while he and Fan Yunyi had grown up together, their bond was one of family, not romantic love. He felt it would be unfair to marry her without genuine affection, as she deserved a partner who could truly love her. He apologized to Fan Yunyi, who was deeply heartbroken.
Mrs. Jiang tried to console a distraught Fan Yunyi, assuring her that Shan Junhao was merely confused and would not be allowed to marry anyone else. Despite this, Fan Yunyi remained firm in her belief that Shan Junhao had made up his mind, but she decided to go to work the next day, presenting a strong facade.
The next morning, Shan Junhao arrived at Senwell Hotel, claiming to conduct an impromptu inspection of the guest rooms, much to the surprise of the manager. He soon encountered Ye Qianyu, who tried to avoid him. He blocked her path, jokingly citing a violation of employee rules for ignoring the General Manager, forcing her to offer a polite, if forced, greeting. As she hurried away, Shan Junhao quietly followed her under the pretense of his inspection.
He later helped her move a sofa she was struggling with. When Ye Qianyu suggested he didn't need to do such tasks, he remarked that such small acts of kindness would enhance his public image. Shan Junhao then engaged her in a discussion about hotel management, noting the decline in occupancy rates.
Ye Qianyu, referencing Tonghao's teachings, spoke passionately about the importance of detail, from staff smiles to the scent and warmth of the rooms, contrasting Senwell with the cozy Guanmei Inn. Shan Junhao was impressed, noting how well Tonghao had taught her. He then confronted her, believing she regretted rejecting his confession the previous night and offering her another chance. However, Ye Qianyu dismissed his self-absorbed notion and quickly left to attend to a spilled drink on the second-floor stairs.
Shan Junhao, undeterred, affirmed that he would not go back on his words or abandon his decision. Meanwhile, Fan Yunyi, having learned that Shan Junhao was at Senwell Hotel and that his assistant Dawei was not with him, and knowing Ye Qianyu also worked there, grew suspicious. Fearing contact between them, she rushed to the hotel. While frantically searching for Shan Junhao, she slipped on the wet stairs on the second floor.
Ye Qianyu, who was cleaning there, tried to grab her but lost her footing, causing both to fall. Shan Junhao, hearing the commotion and Joey mentioning a fall, immediately rushed to the scene, fearing it was Ye Qianyu. At the hospital, doctors revealed that Fan Yunyi's head injury had caused a severe concussion and a clot in her brain, which was pressing on her optic nerve, resulting in temporary blindness.
The doctors explained that her vision might return if the clot dissolved naturally, but surgery would be required if it persisted. Fan Yunyi was devastated by her blindness, and Mrs. Jiang, furious, blamed everything on Ye Qianyu. Mrs. Jiang once again demanded Shan Junhao fire Ye Qianyu and also told Ye Qianyu to stay away from her family. Shan Junhao again refused, insisting it was an accident.
Mrs. Jiang vehemently questioned if Ye Qianyu was more important to him than Fan Yunyi or even the company. Ye Qianyu, injured from the fall, left the hospital family distraught. Shortly after, Taichu arrived, found her, and immediately took her to see a doctor for her injured hand. As they were leaving, Shan Junhao saw them and tried to approach Ye Qianyu, but she coldly pushed him away and left with Taichu.
Taichu then advised Shan Junhao that if he couldn't care for Fan Yunyi, he should let her go. Taichu took Ye Qianyu to his home to stay for a few days, having already reassured Mama Jinzhi. He gave Ye Qianyu a small gift, encouraged her to let go of her burdens, and once again offered her the chance to travel the world with him.
