He explained its unique nib design prevents ink from leaking during drastic changes in air pressure, a problem Gu Nanting frequently encountered. He mentioned the pen was specially sourced from an aircraft material company and difficult to mass-produce.
Later, before takeoff, when a ground crew member needed a pen to sign off on flight data, Cheng Xiao lent him hers, an act Gu Nanting observed with a hint of jealousy. Li Yuheng revealed she had specifically switched shifts to be on this flight, stating she couldn't miss Cheng Xiao's first time as acting captain. Also part of the cabin crew was Qi Yu, a trainee chief flight attendant.

Ten days later, Xia Zhi and Li Yuheng discovered malicious rumors about Cheng Xiao circulating on the company forum, accompanied by magnified surveillance screenshots. The posts falsely accused Cheng Xiao of seducing both Gu Nanting and Ni Zhan to get ahead and of interfering in Gu Nanting's relationship, claiming he was already engaged to flight attendant Li Yuheng. Enraged, Xia Zhi vowed to find the slanderer. The rumors spread rapidly, leading to widespread online criticism.
Ni Zhan investigated but could not trace the source, as the registered phone number was turned off.
