Feng Xiyang desperately threatened to take her own life and that of her unborn child, forcing Xia Jingyan to agree to a final deal. He proposed that she stay with him until his upcoming birthday was over, after which he would grant her a border pass, allowing her and Feng Suige to leave Jinxiu. Feng Xiyang accepted, but insisted on seeing Feng Suige first.

Xia Jingyan agreed, stating he would visit his ancestral residence the next day and allow her to meet her brother there. However, he warned her not to imagine using the opportunity to escape with Feng Suige, reminding her that Jinxiu was his city and escape was impossible. He also warned her against any foolish actions, lest she incur his wrath upon Feng Suige.

Upon learning of Feng Xiyang's plight, Feng Suige clenched his fists in rage, vowing to tear Xia Jingshi to pieces. Fu Yixiao cautioned him to remain calm, reminding him they were in Jinxiu, not Susha, and their true purpose was to rescue Feng Xiyang, not to endanger himself. She assured him that she had arranged for a message to reach Feng Xiyang about their rescue plan, confident that Feng Xiyang would find a way to meet them.

Soon after, an aide reported that Princess Xiyang would indeed meet Feng Suige the next day at Yunlai Inn. Ning Fei then arrived at the inn, confirming the safety of their companions. To give Feng Suige and Feng Xiyang privacy for their reunion, Fu Yixiao suggested to Ning Fei that they go for a walk in Shengjing, as she hadn't visited in a while. Feng Suige urged them to be careful.

As Fu Yixiao and Ning Fei reminisced about a previous visit to Shengjing, they unexpectedly spotted Xiao Weiran on the street and decided to follow him. After enduring much suffering, Feng Xiyang finally met Feng Suige at Yunlai Inn. She wept, confessing her past mistakes and expressing gratitude that he was alive. Feng Suige reassured her that he never blamed her and that she could always be herself with him, no matter what.

He declared that her safety was paramount and that her past was forgiven. Feng Xiyang, however, felt she no longer deserved to be his sister, admitting her hands were stained with blood and that she had given herself to Xia Jingyan, now carrying his child. Despite his shock, Feng Suige affirmed that she would always be his sister and vowed to make both Xia Jingshi and Xia Jingyan pay for her suffering.

Feng Xiyang, however, pleaded with him not to endanger himself further for her sake, stating that seeing him again was all that mattered. She expressed a longing for home and lamented not being able to see their father one last time. Feng Suige comforted her, arranging a familiar sachet and soft pillow for her comfort, and promised to take her home safely once the city gates opened the following day, assuring her of his unwavering presence.

Fu Yixiao and Ning Fei split up to find Xiao Weiran. Sensing danger, Xiao Weiran ambushed Ning Fei, holding a knife to his throat. However, Fu Yixiao then appeared behind Xiao Weiran, completing a tense standoff between the former Three Heroes of Jinxiu. They exchanged sharp words, with Ning Fei noting Xiao Weiran's continued loyalty to his master, the Prince.

Fu Yixiao then directly questioned Xiao Weiran about Xia Jingshi's whereabouts and schemes, convinced that Xia Jingshi's presence in Shengjing indicated a dangerous plot. Xiao Weiran warned them that Shengjing was not safe and advised them to leave quickly, implying that their actions could lead to their demise. Fu Yixiao dismissed him, declaring their encounter accidental and that they were now strangers with no past to revisit.

Despite the animosity, before departing, Xiao Weiran's conscience prompted him to reiterate his warning for them to leave Shengjing as soon as possible, stressing the city's danger. Fu Yixiao immediately rushed back to Feng Suige, warning him that something significant was unfolding in Shengjing. She explained that Xiao Weiran's evasive reactions confirmed Xia Jingshi was plotting, and her analysis suggested that Xia Jingshi had likely escaped Xia Jingyan's control.

She deduced that Xia Jingshi's primary goal was to assassinate Xia Jingyan during the Qianqiu Festival when the Emperor would be outside the palace, a perfect opportunity for an attack. At that moment, Feng Suige received news that Feng Xiyang had left the Yunlai Inn, having left a note about an appointment to ensure her safe departure with him.

Realizing Feng Xiyang's appointment must be with Xia Jingyan, Fu Yixiao warned that Feng Xiyang was in grave danger if Xia Jingshi planned to strike that night. Feng Suige immediately mounted his horse and rushed to her aid. Unbeknownst to Xia Jingyan, Empress Dowager Jing's agents had already ordered the withdrawal of his personal guards at his ancestral residence, leaving him vulnerable as Xia Jingshi and his men stormed in unopposed.

Feng Xiyang fulfilled her promise, returning to Xia Jingyan to spend his upcoming birthday with him. Xia Jingyan, however, mockingly dismissed her presence as a joke, asserting he had no need for her and could easily find other women. Feng Xiyang, resolute, wished him well, though she observed he never seemed truly happy. Xia Jingyan grew furious at her assessment, but Feng Xiyang calmly responded with a wish for his future happiness.

Feng Xiyang then stated that after tomorrow, they would never meet again, and she would raise their child without ever revealing his father's identity. Enraged that she refused to inform him of the child's birth, Xia Jingyan threatened to invade Susha. He then cruelly told her that in his heart, she was merely a plaything, no different from the other women he had discarded. As their tense exchange concluded, Xia Jingshi and his men stormed in.

Xia Jingyan's first instinct was to shield Feng Xiyang, but they were quickly surrounded. Xia Jingshi, mocking Xia Jingyan with twisted birthday wishes, revealed his intent was to kill him. Realizing the attack was aimed solely at him, Xia Jingyan pleaded with Xia Jingshi to release Feng Xiyang, but Xia Jingshi asserted that Xia Jingyan no longer had any authority over her fate.

Despite being brutally tortured and severely wounded, Xia Jingyan fiercely maintained his imperial pride, refusing to beg for mercy from Xia Jingshi, who relentlessly taunted him. Xia Jingyan declared that an emperor's dignity would never yield, even in death. Feng Xiyang eventually intervened, urging Xia Jingshi to cease the torture, but he questioned her plea for a "demon."

Nearing his end, Xia Jingyan asked Feng Xiyang for a smile, something he had never seen from her, claiming it would allow him to die without regret. With tears streaming down her face, Feng Xiyang gave him a smile that was more like a grimace, to which Xia Jingyan cruelly commented on its ugliness.

Xia Jingshi, fueled by his hatred for Xia Jingyan and seeing Feng Xiyang as a further insult for being his woman, turned his murderous gaze on her. Witnessing this, Xia Jingyan cast aside his imperial pride, desperately begging and pleading with Xia Jingshi to spare Feng Xiyang's life, but Xia Jingshi scoffed, declaring he would teach Xia Jingyan how to be a real emperor.

Ignoring Xia Jingyan's desperate pleas, Xia Jingshi first plunged a knife into Feng Xiyang's abdomen, and then delivered a fatal blow to Xia Jingyan, ending his life. Feng Suige arrived at the scene, finding Feng Xiyang clinging to life. She managed to tell him that Xia Jingshi was responsible for the attack and had taken Xia Jingyan's body.

Feng Suige instructed Fu Yixiao to pursue Xia Jingshi with some men, while he himself carried the gravely wounded Feng Xiyang back to Yunlai Inn, dispatching Yu Qi to find a physician and mobilize Susha spies to protect Fu Yixiao. Concurrently, Xia Jingshi had his men remove Xia Jingyan's body and proceeded to report to Empress Dowager Jing. She had been anxiously awaiting his return, expressing her impatience and her strong desire to confirm the death of "that wretch." Xia Jingshi confirmed to her that the person had been killed.
