Many ministers were assembled in Changchun Palace as Feng Suige confronted Zhuang Shen about the murder of the late Empress Wei Qingyu. Zhuang Shen, accepting his inevitable defeat, first tried to negotiate, offering to clear Wei Qingyu's name if Feng Suige swore to spare the Zhuang family. He then defiantly declared himself Wei Qingyu’s sole killer, daring Feng Suige to strike him.

Empress Zhuang Jingyuan rushed in, begging Feng Suige not to harm her father, even offering her own life in his stead. Feng Suige ignored her pleas and repeatedly demanded Zhuang Shen explain his motive for the murder fifteen years prior. Zhuang Shen maintained that he alone was responsible and that his family was innocent, offering his life to save theirs, but Feng Suige rejected any negotiation.

As Zhuang Shen prepared to confess, Zhuang Jingyuan desperately tried to silence him, but he revealed that he had deliberately plotted against the late Empress, fabricating evidence to frame her as a spy and personally killing her. Feng Suige delivered the final, fatal blow, and Zhuang Shen died, still pleading for his family's safety. Throughout this ordeal, Emperor Feng Pingcheng remained secluded, with Mr. Ma relaying his pronouncements.

Upon learning of Zhuang Shen's death, Feng Pingcheng instructed Mr. Ma to summon Feng Suige. However, Feng Suige refused the imperial command, sending a message back to his father that their relationship, both as father and son and as ruler and subject, was now completely severed. Hearing this, Feng Pingcheng acknowledged his defeat to Wei Qingyu, yet expressed gratification that her son had avenged her.

He then declared that since Feng Suige had accomplished his task, it was his turn to act. He decreed that the Zhuang family’s property be confiscated, all male members exiled, and female members enslaved as palace maids. When asked about Empress Zhuang Jingyuan, Feng Pingcheng stated that she would endure more misery alive than dead and that this was her fate, sparing her from death to inflict prolonged suffering.

After returning from the palace, Feng Suige was met by Murong Zhong, who pleaded with him to save his son, Murong Yao. When Feng Suige gave no response, Murong Zhong understood his plea was rejected and departed, dejected. Feng Suige then took Fu Yixiao to his family's ancestral hall, where they knelt before the memorial tablet of his mother, Wei Qingyu.

He confessed that since his mother’s death, he had been lost in a dark mire of vengeance, but meeting Fu Yixiao had brought light back into his life and given him a future to look forward to. Following Feng Pingcheng's orders, Mr. Ma informed Empress Zhuang Jingyuan that Zhuang Shen's body was to be removed from the palace and the family’s assets seized.

Distraught, Zhuang Jingyuan pleaded to bury her father herself, but Mr. Ma explained that the ancestral hall would also be demolished, leaving no appropriate burial place, and insisted the emperor's will be carried out. Enraged, Zhuang Jingyuan defied the guards, asserting her right as Empress to see Feng Pingcheng. After Murong Zhong was denied an audience with the Emperor, Zhuang Jingyuan eventually gained entry at Mr. Ma's command. Inside, Feng Pingcheng coldly declared the end of their marriage.

Zhuang Jingyuan clarified her visit was for their son, Feng Chengyang, but Feng Pingcheng accused her of seeking the throne for him. He affirmed that Chengyang would not inherit the throne and would only be granted the title of Prince, on the condition that he loyally assist Feng Suige and never leave Yujing. He dismissed her objections, stating it was Chengyang's royal fate. With a veneer of gratitude, Zhuang Jingyuan thanked him.

As Feng Pingcheng dismissed her, she made a final request: to style his hair one last time. Feng Pingcheng granted her request. As Zhuang Jingyuan dressed Feng Pingcheng’s hair, she asserted that Feng Chengyang would not passively accept his fate. She then brandished a dagger and repeatedly stabbed Feng Pingcheng, who collapsed, his legs crippled, and cried out for help. Two guards and Murong Zhong entered the chamber.

In his dying moments, Feng Pingcheng attempted to utter a plea to protect Suige. Murong Zhong swiftly killed the two guards. He then offered to conceal Feng Pingcheng’s death for Zhuang Jingyuan in exchange for her assistance in saving his son, Murong Yao, to which she agreed. Murong Zhong meticulously cleaned up the blood and later ambushed and killed Mr. Ma when the eunuch arrived.

This chilling palace violence starkly contrasted with the joyous celebrations unfolding at the First Prince’s Residence, where Feng Suige’s men revelled in their victory, toasting him and affectionately calling Fu Yixiao "Dasao" (sister-in-law), a title she bashfully accepted, even joining them in a toast. Later, Murong Yao and Jinwu Guard Commander Murong Jie arrived in the palace to meet Murong Zhong. Murong Yao learned from his father that the Empress was responsible for Feng Pingcheng’s death.

Murong Jie then reported to Murong Zhong that he had dealt with the Jinwu Guards outside, securing the area before departing to maintain watch. Murong Zhong revealed his full plan to Murong Yao: Feng Pingcheng had to die to save Murong Yao, and now Feng Suige must also be eliminated, leaving the Murong family past the point of no return.

Horrified, Murong Yao insisted that he alone was the rebel, not his father or the family, and desperately urged Murong Zhong to leave, offering to bear all consequences himself. Murong Zhong refused, stating he couldn't bear the thought of losing his son, whom he deemed the most important to the Murong family.

The following day, a eunuch arrived at the First Prince’s Residence to inform Feng Suige that Feng Pingcheng had suffered a severe relapse and Mr. Ma urgently requested his presence. Despite his earlier declaration to sever ties with his father, Feng Suige reluctantly went to the palace after hearing about the emperor's critical condition.

The eunuch led him to the Imperial Study, explaining that imperial physicians had been summoned there due to the sudden onset of Feng Pingcheng's illness, before leaving Feng Suige alone at the entrance. Feng Suige entered, only to discover Feng Pingcheng slumped over, lifeless and covered in blood. He confronted Murong Zhong, who was already in the room, accusing him of orchestrating everything.

Murong Zhong attempted to shoot Feng Suige with a crossbow but missed, then engaged him in a fierce dagger fight. Feng Suige, stronger and more agile, gained control of the dagger and slowly plunged it into Murong Zhong's chest. In a shocking turn, a sharp blade suddenly pierced Feng Suige’s own chest from behind, revealing another unexpected traitor lurking in the Imperial Study.
