Count Your Lucky Stars Episode 2 Recap
> Count Your Lucky Stars Recap
Lu Xingcheng woke from a bloody car accident nightmare. Meanwhile, Lu Yanzhi's father, Professor Lu Ren, praised his son's performance on "The Next Runway," mentioning the judges were old friends who approved of his work. Before Professor Lu could inquire about a specific dress Lu Yanzhi designed, his wife, Cheng Peiyu, interrupted. She announced her decision to hand over the Yange brand, which she and Lu Ren founded the previous year, to Lu Yanzhi, who had recently returned from overseas.
Though surprised, Lu Ren agreed, urging his son to do well. After his parents left, Lu Yanzhi questioned his mother about the design draft she gave him, mentioning host Mu Yang's strange comments. Cheng Peiyu became defensive, accusing him of doubting her and insisting he follow her instructions to gain his father's approval. Lu Yanzhi then presented his mother with a unique handmade bag.
Cheng Peiyu rejected it, questioning his overseas studies and demanding he focus on "useful" design work instead of "useless things." Daly dragged Tong Xiaoyou to Lu Xingcheng's office, mistakenly believing she was being fired. Lu Xingcheng questioned her performance in the recent competition. Tong Xiaoyou admitted to receiving five zeroes but praised Lu Yanzhi's skill, noting his excellent cutting and lines. However, she criticized his design for its lack of versatility due to an overemphasis on fabric.
To Daly’s surprise, Lu Xingcheng didn't fire her but appointed her as his junior assistant in the Chief Editor's office, nicknaming her "Olympics" because of her "five zeroes." Daly then gave her a manual outlining Lu Xingcheng’s strict work habits, including his coffee preferences and office rules. He bet she wouldn't last a month, but Tong Xiaoyou, confident in her ability to endure hardship, declared she would persevere.
On her first day, Tong Xiaoyou rushed to collect sample clothes after a quick meal. She collided with Lu Yanzhi, who was starting his first day at Yange. Tong Xiaoyou admired his handmade bag. They discussed the fabrics of the "CHIC" magazine designs she carried, revealing Lu Yanzhi's extensive knowledge of textile history, from French innovations to ancient Chinese silk technology, gained during his ten years abroad.
Tong Xiaoyou wondered if he was the "young man" who inspired her design dream a decade ago, but Lu Yanzhi claimed no memory, though he admitted to meeting someone like her. Later, Lu Yanzhi visited Tong Xiaoyou at "CHIC" magazine, offering her a job and gently tidying her hair. Tong Xiaoyou worked tirelessly but longed for design work. She asked Lu Xingcheng for more design tasks instead of errands, but he refused.
However, he subtly gave her the latest draft for her opinion. Daly then burdened her with a huge stack of documents from Lu Xingcheng, demanding they be organized by evening. Despite complaining, Tong Xiaoyou worked through the night, recognizing the documents’ value for her design ambitions. The next morning, she presented the organized materials to Lu Xingcheng. He harshly criticized her tiredness after less than eight hours' work, questioned her talent, and cynically predicted she would die from overworking.
He then assigned her the task of digitizing all documents by the next morning. Her roommate, Song Ruru, offered help, but Tong Xiaoyou refused, determined not to lose to Lu Xingcheng, even in effort. The next day, Daly received an urgent call: a manuscript Tong Xiaoyou reviewed was plagiarized, and half was already printed. The news spread, and Deputy Editor Lin confronted Lu Xingcheng. Tong Xiaoyou stepped forward, taking responsibility and suggesting interviewing Professor Lu Ren to mitigate the crisis.
Deputy Editor Lin agreed, but Lu Xingcheng furiously rejected the idea and ordered everyone out. At a photoshoot, model Wen Xi tried to make Tong Xiaoyou buy high heels, but Tong Xiaoyou refused, stating she worked for the Chief Editor, not as an errand girl. Lu Xingcheng intervened, defending Tong Xiaoyou and threatening to replace Wen Xi.
Distressed, Tong Xiaoyou confessed to Lu Xingcheng that she was a constant source of trouble, citing lifelong bad luck, even mentioning drawing the worst fortune from fortune sticks. She suggested he find another assistant. She then collapsed from hypoglycemia. Lu Xingcheng carried her to Wen Xi's resting area and gave her candy. Wen Xi noted his care, but Lu Xingcheng snapped, fearing for Tong Xiaoyou's life. He waited until she woke up, even postponing an important press conference.
Upon her awakening, he announced an appointment with a designer from Ouhai Blue Room, thanking her for her help. Leaving for his event, he surprisingly instructed Daly to buy candies for him. Before leaving the photoshoot, Lu Xingcheng asked Tong Xiaoyou to put a necklace from his pocket onto his office desk. Upon returning, the necklace was gone.
After a fruitless search and failing to find a replacement online, she returned to the office, where Daly revealed the necklace was Lu Xingcheng's "life." Distraught, Tong Xiaoyou confided in Song Ruru and Brother Bao, recounting Lu Xingcheng's surprising protection. Song Ruru teased her about a possible romance. Worried about the lost necklace, Lu Yanzhi appeared, offering to make a replica if given a drawing.
Tong Xiaoyou provided her drawing, and Lu Yanzhi, after introducing himself to her friends, began recreating the necklace. The next day, Lu Xingcheng, having already found his necklace, confronted Tong Xiaoyou and demanded the necklace. Tong Xiaoyou, unaware he found it, lied and presented the replica. Lu Xingcheng, enraged, threw the fake necklace at her, exposing her deceit. He scolded her for losing his necklace and for the "forgery," a grave taboo in their industry, second only to plagiarism.
Despite Tong Xiaoyou’s explanation, Lu Xingcheng fired her. Feeling sad about leaving after two years, Tong Xiaoyou went to the rooftop with wine, lamenting her unlucky life. She found Lu Xingcheng also on the rooftop, drinking. In their drunken state, she formally submitted her resignation. Lu Xingcheng retorted that he fired her. Tong Xiaoyou accused him of success through luck, but Lu Xingcheng passionately argued it was due to his ability and relentless work. He then revealed his profound loneliness, stating he had no family or friends and that "luck" wasn't in his dictionary. Their emotional confrontation ended with an unexpected kiss.
