Feng Shizhen saw their car drive into a dead end, and Meng Xu'an and his men quickly surrounded them. Meng Xu'an loudly demanded Rong Jiashang step out to atone for Rong Dingkun. Though Feng Shizhen was anxious, Rong Jiashang remained composed. He calmly stepped out of the car, and at once, many cars filled with Rong family enforcers drove up from all directions. Meng Xu'an realized he had ventured onto Rong family territory.

Rong Jiashang stated that he simply wished for Meng Xu'an to accompany him back, sign some contracts, ensure the Gold Kylin was returned to its rightful owner, and then allow Meng Xu'an and Xiaojiu to leave Shanghai for the United States. Meng Xu'an rejected this offer, accusing Rong Jiashang of having his father's same ruthless nature, always sacrificing others for success. Rong Jiashang acknowledged that his father had wronged the Meng family but emphasized his own gentler approach.

Meng Xu'an then called Feng Shizhen out of the car to catch up on old times. Noticing she wasn't wearing the ruby necklace he had given her, he asked if she had discarded it. Rong Jiashang, in turn, presented Feng Shizhen with a red jade bracelet, stating it suited a young woman like her better and that she didn't need excessive ornamentation.

Meng Xu'an was furious and openly accused Feng Shizhen of having entered the Rong family for revenge and of having provided him with intelligence. He claimed she had abandoned her family's vendetta due to her romantic feelings for Rong Jiashang. Meng Xu'an questioned Rong Jiashang about the strange occurrences within the Rong family since Feng Shizhen's arrival, revealing that Feng Shizhen had passed him intelligence and helped Rong Dingkun's concubine escape.

He explicitly stated that Feng Shizhen knew Rong Dingkun burned Wenchunli and had approached Rong Jiashang for revenge, acting as his informant to create chaos and steal information. Rong Jiashang, looking at Feng Shizhen with confusion, dismissed Meng Xu'an's words as a foolish attempt to sow discord. Feng Shizhen, after a moment of silence, confessed that everything Meng Xu'an said was true; she had indeed betrayed him.

However, she firmly declared that from that moment on, Meng Xu'an was not to interfere in her and Rong Jiashang's affairs. Meng Xu'an, furious, taunted Rong Jiashang, calling him merely Rong Dingkun's lackey who unwittingly managed illegal businesses and was used by the woman he loved. He warned Rong Jiashang that if he had run away with Feng Shizhen, his end would have been even worse.

As Meng Xu'an was about to leave, a large truck suddenly arrived, and a group of assassins disembarked, opening fire on Meng Xu'an and his men. Rong Jiashang attempted to use the chaos to escape with Feng Shizhen, but Meng Xu'an seized her and took her away. From a bodyguard, Rong Jiashang learned that Rong Dingkun had been shot and hospitalized, and Rong Fanghua was missing. He reluctantly abandoned his pursuit of Feng Shizhen and rushed to the hospital.

At the hospital, Rong Jiashang hurried in, surrounded by reporters. Zhao Hua'an informed him that Rong Dingkun had been shot during a conflict with a police officer and was in critical condition. Wu Yunchi arrived shortly after, unable to locate Rong Fanghua. Mrs. Rong and Rong Fanglin sat nearby, still shaken. Rong Jiashang questioned Zhao Hua'an about Meng Xu'an's claim that he had older siblings.

Zhao Hua'an vehemently denied it, attributing Meng Xu'an's words to sour grapes and advising Rong Jiashang not to believe such provocations. He insisted Rong Jiashang was the eldest son. Mrs. Rong, recalling Rong Dingkun abandoning her to save himself, burst out in anger, condemning him as ruthless and selfish. She revealed that before marrying Rong Jiashang's mother, Rong Dingkun had a wife and two children in the countryside. He later abandoned them to marry into a wealthier family.

Rong Jiashang was stunned and sought confirmation from Zhao Hua'an, who reluctantly admitted to a prior family, but insisted that the first wife and her two children had all died during a plague in their hometown years ago, and Rong Dingkun had kept it secret to avoid being seen as unlucky. Rong Jiashang, however, expressed doubt, noting that his father never mentioned these children, unlike his younger sister Jiaxin, which made him question if they were truly dead.

Zhao Hua'an told him to ask his father directly once he awoke. Meanwhile, Meng Xu'an took Feng Shizhen back to his residence and admonished her. Feng Shizhen condemned his indiscriminate killing, likening him to Rong Dingkun, arguing that not everyone deserved to die just because they were involved in "dirty business." Meng Xu'an retorted that he didn't kill her because he couldn't bring himself to. Overcome with emotion, he then recounted his tragic past.

He explained that Rong Dingkun had lured his elder sister, Meng Qingzhi, into opium addiction to control her. Meng Qingzhi, desperate for opium, had stolen and pawned the ancestral Gold Kylin to Rong Dingkun. Later, Rong Dingkun sent her to America, where she gave birth to Xiaojiu. Overwhelmed by her circumstances, Meng Qingzhi became mentally unstable and committed suicide by slitting her throat in front of Xiaojiu when he was seven.

Xiaojiu, exposed to opium addiction in the womb and witnessing his mother's insanity and suicide, suffered from drug addiction himself. At fourteen, during a fit, he jumped from a second-story window, breaking his waist. Meng Xu'an confessed that his father had left his sister and nephew in a hospital to die to protect the family's reputation until Meng Xu'an took over the family business after his father's death.

He then rescued them, but his sister died soon after, followed by his mother from depression. He formally adopted Xiaojiu as his younger brother. Meng Xu'an asserted that he was not trying to gain Feng Shizhen's sympathy but warned her that Rong Jiashang would never forgive her after learning the full truth, and that without his protection, she and her family would be unsafe.

He advised her to abandon her feelings for Rong Jiashang and leave Shanghai as soon as possible, believing their entanglement would only lead to a worse outcome. Feng Shizhen maintained that she no longer cared about anything, dismissing Meng Xu'an's concerns about Rong Jiashang's reaction to the truth. She acknowledged that she might be as selfish and cruel as Rong Dingkun but declared it didn't matter.

Meng Xu'an allowed her to leave, citing their former teacher-student relationship as the reason, though he predicted they would be strangers upon their next meeting. As Feng Shizhen, limping due to a foot injury, was leaving, she overheard Meng Xu'an's subordinate mention that "Miss Rong" had been brought back and was in the bodyguards' quarters. Realizing it must be Rong Fanghua, she rushed to the back house. She found Rong Fanghua being assaulted by Meng Xu'an's men.

Meng Xu'an, who had followed her, vehemently denied knowing about it, but Feng Shizhen refused to believe him. She quickly rescued Rong Fanghua. Feng Shizhen took Rong Fanghua to Red House Hospital, where her brother, Feng Shixun, worked. Rong Fanghua was reluctant to go to a hospital due to fear and shame, but Feng Shizhen reassured her they would keep her secret and urged her to live bravely, not letting the incident destroy her spirit.

At the same hospital, Yang Xiucheng brought Du Lanxin, who was bleeding heavily after being accidentally bumped at the auction. Feng Shixun examined her and found signs of a threatened abortion, immediately initiating emergency treatment. Yang Xiucheng pleaded with Feng Shixun to save the baby and keep Du Lanxin's pregnancy a secret. Feng Shixun assured him of doctor-patient confidentiality. Yang Xiucheng also inquired about the potential effects of birth control pills Du Lanxin had been taking.

Feng Shixun confirmed they could have adverse effects on the baby but awaited full body scan results for a definitive conclusion. Later, Du Lanxin expressed her fear that her pregnancy would soon be discovered, especially since her family also had doctors, and suggested she and Yang Xiucheng leave Shanghai the next day. Yang Xiucheng hesitated, urging her to reconsider having the child.

He explained that her extravagant lifestyle wouldn't be sustainable if they moved to an unfamiliar city and started anew, suggesting she marry Rong Jiashang and remain a wealthy lady. Disheartened by his words, Du Lanxin agreed that it wasn't worth abandoning her privileged life for him. Feng Shizhen, meanwhile, arrived with Rong Fanghua in the pouring rain, asking Feng Shixun to find a female doctor to examine her sister.
