Lang Yuexuan introduced a new product, a lipstick, developed by Gu Haitang, intending its mass production and market launch at Langlichun. He presented Lang Sinian with a market research report, advocating for market leadership through innovation. Lang Sinian, however, believed Langlichun was not in a good position to invest in new products, viewed Lang Yuexuan's ideas as theoretical, and explicitly stated he would not mix business with personal feelings regarding Gu Haitang, maintaining an unchanged attitude towards her.
Lang Yuexuan's actions to protect Gu Haitang also angered Feng Chunyan, though Lang Yuexuan hoped for Langlichun's cooperation with Gu Haitang. Feng Chunyan severely reprimanded Lang Yueming for assisting Gu Haitang. Lang Yueming explained his actions as a strategic retreat, aiming to first separate Lang Yuexuan and Gu Haitang, and then to dismiss Gu Haitang entirely.
He expressed concern that Lang Yuexuan would not easily drop the matter, potentially escalating the situation and involving their father, which he feared would be detrimental to them. Feng Chunyan was distraught, but Lang Yueming promised to resolve everything swiftly, assuring her. Shi Diwen informed Shi Jizhou that Gu Haitang's parents had previously specialized in applying makeup to the deceased, which greatly surprised Shi Jizhou, who then recalled Gu Haitang's father.
Shi Jizhou also received a call from Long Deshui (also referred to as Long Dashuai) arranging a meeting for the following day. Meanwhile, Gu Haitang and Fan Zhen searched for Chu Chu, but learned from neighbors that Chu Chu and her entire family had moved to a relative's home or another town. Long Mohua proactively sought Lang Yueming's cooperation, encouraging him to boldly pursue Gu Haitang using any means necessary.
Long Mohua pledged her full assistance, stating their alliance was based on shared interests in separating Lang Yuexuan and Gu Haitang. They immediately agreed to work together. Gu Haitang, determined not to give up, decided to restart the academy from scratch by promoting it door-to-door to attract more students.
Lang Yuexuan also tasked Gu Haitang with developing new lipstick products for prompt market launch, having already discussed these new product plans with Lang Sinian. Long Deshui summoned Lang Sinian and Shi Jizhou to solicit donations for military expenses, stating his aim to eliminate surrounding warlords and ensure the safety of Kunyang's citizens. The two bosses engaged in subtle rivalry, with Shi Jizhou feigning poor business and pushing Lang Sinian to take the lead.
Lang Sinian immediately agreed to contribute double Shi Jizhou's amount. Lang Yuexuan confronted Long Mohua, suspecting her of instigating trouble at the academy. Long Mohua initially denied it, but then openly admitted her involvement. She condemned Lang Yuexuan for consistently protecting Gu Haitang and disregarding her. Lang Yueming, while checking items in the warehouse, found discrepancies and demanded to see previous and detailed account books from Yang Guanjia (also referred to as Yang Shu), the warehouse manager. Yang Guanjia firmly refused, stating that only Lang Sinian and Lang Yuexuan handled and were authorized to view the accounts. Lang Yueming grew furious, suspecting Yang Guanjia of tampering with the books. Lang Yuexuan arrived, intervened, and sent Yang Guanjia away.
Lang Yueming then pressed Lang Yuexuan to open the cabinet holding the account books, but Lang Yuexuan insisted that he first seek Lang Sinian's permission before proceeding. Lang Yueming held the new month's account books. Lang Yuexuan, needing to process orders and prevent losses, requested to see the receipts for Lang Yueming's latest batch of goods and inspect the inventory.
However, Lang Yueming, still resentful from their previous confrontation, refused, insisting on procedures and requiring Lang Yuexuan to obtain Lang Sinian's consent. Lang Yuexuan attempted to resolve their unspoken misunderstandings, but Lang Yueming remained unyielding, firmly asserting that Gu Haitang was "his woman" and blaming Lang Yuexuan for all issues. Their disagreement escalated into a fierce argument. Distraught, Long Mohua sought out Shi Diwen, asking him to accompany her for a distraction.
On the way, Long Mohua revealed her bad mood, and Shi Diwen kindly advised her that only "heart medicine" could cure the heart, acknowledging that he was always by her side when she had problems. He suggested she needed an outlet to vent and took her cycling in the suburbs. There, they agreed to ride down a steep slope blindfolded.
Long Mohua played a trick, which Shi Diwen believed, causing him to foolishly charge down, fall face-first, and sustain a slight injury. Long Mohua quickly helped him up, continuously chiding him for being too foolish. Upon learning of his sons' quarrel from Yang Guanjia, Lang Sinian summoned them, viewing their conflict as a sign of diligence rather than something to be blamed for. The brothers apologized to each other.
Lang Sinian questioned Lang Yueming about the raw material intake and warehouse inventory numbers; Lang Yueming's answers were incomplete, flawed, and contained errors. Lang Sinian instructed him to study diligently, be more attentive, and quickly master the regulations. Feeling annoyed by Lang Sinian's constant comparisons to Lang Yuexuan, Lang Yueming left in a huff but then returned and listened from outside the door.
Lang Sinian then reviewed Lang Yuexuan's feasibility analysis report for the lipstick, sensing Lang Yuexuan's impatience and pointing out flaws in the proposal, reminding him not to overlook minor details. He imparted business secrets and techniques to Lang Yuexuan, who felt enlightened and expressed his intention to use the edible lipstick to establish Langlichun's reputation among customers. Lang Yuexuan also took the opportunity to act affectionately with Lang Sinian.
Lang Yueming, overhearing Lang Yuexuan's risky plan to launch an edible product, also heard Lang Sinian declare that any failure would be Lang Yuexuan's sole responsibility, with no support from him. Lang Yueming's heart felt bitter as he recalled Lang Sinian's cold remarks to him.
