Upon returning home, Lang Yuexuan received news from a servant that his mother, Feng Chunyan, was furious, having learned about the assassination attempt on him and his father, Lang Sinian. He immediately rushed to the Buddha hall, where his mother, relieved to see him safe, scolded him for not reporting his well-being sooner. After greeting his mother, Lang Yuexuan and Lang Sinian discussed the day's assassination.
Lang Yuexuan suspected foul play, and Lang Sinian speculated that Marshal Long Deshui and Shi Jizhou were behind it; Marshal Long sought money, while Shi Jizhou aimed for the presidency of the Chamber of Commerce. Lang Sinian also mentioned Gu Haitang, who had saved him, expressing a desire to find and thank her properly.
The conversation then shifted to the talented individual who had done Long Mohua's makeup for the beauty pageant, with Lang Sinian instructing Lang Yuexuan to recruit this person for the Lang Lichun workshop. Meanwhile, Marshal Long Deshui convened all the chamber of commerce owners, using the assassination as a pretext. Separately, Lang Yuexuan and Shi Jizhou's son, Shi Diwen, waited at an intersection for Gu Haitang, but she did not appear there. Shi Diwen later returned home, where his father, Shi Jizhou, scolded him for being unmotivated and spending time with Lang Yuexuan without matching his achievements. After Shi Diwen returned to his room, Shi Jizhou's wife advised her husband not to be angry, revealing that Diwen was not their biological son.
The following morning, Long Mohua and Gu Haitang waited by the roadside for Lang Yuexuan and Shi Diwen. Upon seeing Gu Haitang, Lang Yuexuan was secretly delighted but maintained a composed facade, engaging in playful banter with her. Lang Yuexuan persistently bickered with Gu Haitang, frequently turning the conversation to his "second wish" for her to work at the Lang Lichun workshop. Shi Diwen interjected, suggesting they avoid work talk during their outing. Unable to outwit Gu Haitang verbally, Lang Yuexuan challenged Shi Diwen to a cycling race. As the race began, Gu Haitang abruptly jumped off Shi Diwen's bicycle. Startled, Shi Diwen lost control, colliding with Lang Yuexuan's bike, causing all three to tumble to the ground.
Long Mohua's leg was scraped and bleeding. Gu Haitang rushed to help Long Mohua, who appeared to have fainted. As Shi Diwen offered to carry her to the hospital, Long Mohua suddenly jumped up, declaring she would only let Lang Yuexuan carry her, revealing her pretense. Lang Yuexuan became very angry, but Gu Haitang interceded, scolding him for yelling at Long Mohua. Seeing Long Mohua's bleeding leg, Gu Haitang went to the mountain to find hemostatic herbs.
Despite Long Mohua's attempts to stop him, Lang Yuexuan followed Gu Haitang. He caught up to her and once again proposed his "second wish" for her to work at Lang Lichun, but Gu Haitang, still wary of his arrogance, firmly rejected the offer. Lang Yuexuan, however, was not discouraged and smiled contentedly as he watched her storm down the mountain. On the return journey, Gu Haitang earnestly reminded Long Mohua to remember to find a doctor and change her dressing.
Long Mohua expressed regret over her performance that day and playfully pleaded with Gu Haitang to continue helping her pursue Lang Yuexuan. The two girls laughed together, sunlight filtering softly through the window, bathing them in a warm glow. Later, passing by the Lang Lichun workshop, Gu Haitang coincidentally witnessed employees from the Shi Hanglu workshop publicly recruiting workers with gongs and drums, offering double the wages of Lang Lichun.
Several tempted female workers were immediately driven away by arriving Lang family shop assistants. Among them, a Lang family male supervisor's distinctive walking posture stirred a long-forgotten memory in Gu Haitang. It brought back the mystery of her father, Gu Shunqi, who had gone to Kunyang on her childhood birthday and never returned.
