Lang Sinian finds Gu Haitang's makeup technique for Lang Yueming remarkably familiar. Both Lang Sinian and Uncle Quan recall that Gu Haitang's technique is identical to that of Gu Haitang's father, Gu Shunqi, suggesting a fated connection. Meanwhile, Lang Yuexuan notices a lotus and lily scent on Miaolan, who admits she blended it herself. Miaolan explains she was following Feng Chunyan's orders to administer family punishment to Gu Haitang, for which Lang Yuexuan does not blame her.
Hua Jili returns to Kunyang, where Shi Diwen personally greets him at the dock and hosts a welcoming banquet. Lang Yuexuan is also present. Hua Jili proposes a large Southeast Asian business deal, bringing a significant order, and seeks a partnership with either the Lang or Shi family. Both Shi Diwen and Lang Yuexuan feign sleep or drunkenness to evade Hua Jili, as they don't wish to engage in private family business rivalries for the order.
Lang Yuexuan suggests Hua Jili hold a public bidding session to openly select a partner, a method Hua Jili finds feasible. Since the Flower God Festival, Langlichun's business has been declining, causing Lang Sinian deep worry. Lang Yuexuan informs his father about Hua Jili's large order but expresses concern that Langlichun might not be able to handle such a massive quantity alone. Lang Sinian, determined to reverse Langlichun's decline, decides they must take the risk and try for the order.
Lang Yueming, overhearing their conversation, feels guilty for causing the family business setbacks. Lang Yueming suggests a win-win collaboration with other parties, specifically mentioning the Shi family in one account. The brothers agree on this cooperative approach, and Lang Yuexuan immediately begins preparing the bidding proposal and materials. Meanwhile, Shi Jizhou is furious that Shi Diwen didn't secure Hua Jili's order.
He severely reprimands Shi Diwen, even physically assaulting him in one account, and threatens to disown him if he fails to get the order. Distressed, Shi Diwen's mother advises him to help the family, leading him to immediately seek Lang Yuexuan to discuss countermeasures. Separately, Hua Jili, who had previously cooperated with Marshal Long Deshui on an arms deal, now brings him gifts, including a rare Tibetan dzi bead necklace.
Long Deshui is pleased and promises to resolve all of Hua Jili's troubles in Kunyang, thereby offering his protection. Lang Yuexuan suggests to Lang Sinian that they reconcile with Shi Jizhou and jointly pursue Hua Jili's order, then implement a shareholding system, which he believes would benefit the business guild's development if adopted as a unified distribution system. Lang Sinian is greatly impressed by Lang Yuexuan's ideas but firmly states that he will not cooperate with the Shi family.
Despite this, Lang Sinian places great hope in Lang Yuexuan, giving him full authority to handle the matter and expressing his desire for Lang Yuexuan to become independent soon. Lang Yuexuan believes Hua Jili will be satisfied with his prepared bidding materials. Shi Diwen goes to Lang Yuexuan's room to wait for him. Finding Lang Yuexuan absent, Shi Diwen, while anxiously waiting, sees Lang Yuexuan's prepared bidding materials/proposal on the table.
He picks it up, casually glances through it, and forms a wicked intention. On the day of the bidding session, Shi Jizhou confidently presents his bid first, publicly announcing his plan. Lang Yuexuan is stunned to realize it is identical to his own proposal. He immediately concludes that Shi Diwen stole his plan. Shi Jizhou successfully secures Hua Jili's order and publicly announces the list of cooperating merchants, pointedly omitting the Lang family. Lang Sinian is enraged.
Lang Yuexuan immediately confronts Shi Diwen, who fearfully begs for forgiveness, admitting he stole the proposal because he was desperate to prove himself to his father. Shi Diwen promises never to repeat such an act, and Lang Yuexuan reluctantly forgives him, deciding not to pursue the matter further. Back home, the Lang family's atmosphere is very low, as Lang Sinian is distraught, discussing the loss of Hua Jili's large order at the dinner table.
Gu Haitang, however, criticizes their greed, asserting that one should be content with what is gained and happy with what is lost, and they need not be so disheartened. Feng Chunyan mocks Gu Haitang as a poor child lacking ambition and content with poverty, but Gu Haitang argues back. Lang Sinian finds her reasoning sound and invites her to speak freely.
Gu Haitang explains that while securing such a massive order is good, it has never been done before, and without a perfect system, Shi Jizhou's subcontracting arrangements will inevitably lead to various problems, making the large order a "hot potato" despite its superficial success. She points out that since most Kunyang merchants will be occupied with Hua Jili's large order, the remaining smaller orders will be unaddressed, presenting a valuable opportunity for Langlichun to profit.
Lang Sinian praises Gu Haitang profusely, and Lang Yueming is proud of her. Later, Lang Yuexuan encounters Hua Jili on the street, surrounded by frustrated workshop owners who are bothering him due to unfair distribution. Lang Yuexuan notes that this chaos was inevitable because the Shi family only stole his first plan, not his second and third, implying the core strategies for successful execution were missing.
Feng Chunyan feels Gu Haitang publicly undermined her and worries Lang Yueming won't keep her. Feng Chunyan reveals Gu Haitang's condition for staying: a divorce letter in exchange for curing Lang Yueming's face. Lang Sinian hopes Gu Haitang can cure Lang Yueming's face and stay to live happily with him, seeing this as a desirable outcome.
That night, Lang Sinian tries to return to his study to sleep, but Feng Chunyan desperately pleads with him to stay the night; he resolutely leaves, and Feng Chunyan cries inconsolably. Later, Feng Chunyan calls Gu Haitang aside, scolding her for disrespecting elders, then asks about the method for concealing Lang Yueming's scars. Gu Haitang admits it's an ointment that only temporarily covers the scars but promises to continue working to cure Lang Yueming's face.
Feng Chunyan agrees to their previous contract/bet: if Gu Haitang cures Lang Yueming's face, Feng Chunyan will grant her a divorce letter. Gu Haitang accepts these terms, but it is agreed that this arrangement must be kept secret from Lang Yueming. Gu Haitang decides to return to the workshop the next day to find more materials and a secret recipe for healing scars. Feng Chunyan asks Lang Yuexuan to help Gu Haitang.
The next morning, Gu Haitang arrives at the workshop. The female workers, including Lu Fanzhen, warmly welcome her back. However, Xin Qiao sarcastically mocks Gu Haitang for marrying the disfigured Lang Yueming to become the eldest young mistress.
