Rong Zhi was ambushed on his way to Xishan. All his personal guards were killed. He hid in a tree, using the dense foliage as cover, until dawn. Liu Chuyu arrived at the scene but couldn't find Rong Zhi. She and Qing Yue separated to search. From a distance, Rong Zhi saw the anxious Liu Chuyu, his heart tightened, and he came down from the tree to take her with him to evade the layered search by the Longlin Army.

Rong Zhi and Liu Chuyu hid in the roadside bushes, carefully avoiding the pursuers. The atmosphere was tense. Liu Chuyu accidentally stepped on a twig, making a sound. Instantly, several arrows shot out, but their targets were the pursuers. Huo Xuan, bringing her personal guards, arrived in time and saved Rong Zhi and Liu Chuyu. Looking at Rong Zhi and Liu Chuyu's clasped hands, Huo Xuan felt bitter and spurred her horse to chase the fleeing Longlin Army.

However, she couldn't concentrate and was injured and fainted while dealing with the fleeing soldiers. Meanwhile, Wang Ze rescued Qing Yue, who was being pursued by the Longlin Army. After meeting with Rong Zhi, they rushed to Xishan together. Gu Huan was hidden among Huo Xuan's troops. He did not go to Xishan with Wang Ze and the others but returned to find Huo Xuan. When Huo Xuan woke up, she wondered why Gu Huan was there.

Gu Huan explained that Wang Ze was worried about her old injury recurring and had asked him to secretly follow. Huo Xuan's back injury was severe and required immediate treatment. She took off her armor, revealing her fair back, which was originally like congealed cream but was now covered with scars and bloodstains. Gu Huan's eyes showed pity as he gently bandaged her wounds.

Huo Xuan's injury made riding unsuitable, so Gu Huan insistently demanded to ride on the same horse with her. The usually strong Huo Xuan rarely had such weak moments, and the close contact with Gu Huan made her uncomfortable, but now was not the time to dwell on such things. The priority was to quickly reach Xishan. At this moment, in the palace, the Empress Dowager dressed up.

Even if she realized things were bad, she had to maintain her dignity as the Empress Dowager of Great Wei. Ma Zhongliang falsely issued an imperial decree, forcing the Empress Dowager to commit suicide. After all, the Empress Dowager had been in power for many years, and she wanted to maintain her dignity until the very end. Ma Zhongliang showed her respect by giving her the time it takes to drink a cup of tea to commit suicide.

Ma Zhongliang sat in the pavilion, calmly waiting for the Empress Dowager to commit suicide. However, after the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, there was no movement. Just as he was about to go in and check, he was stopped by the Empress Dowager and Rong Zhi's brother, Feng Tai, who brought soldiers. Feng Tai didn't have many men, and the Longlin Army under Ma Zhongliang's command was more than enough to deal with him.

Ma Zhongliang was confident of victory and was about to confront them head-on when Peng Ge pressed a sword to his neck. Peng Ge was a trusted confidant whom Tuoba Hong had planted in the Longlin Army early on. The reason he cooperated with Chen Yong in the palace coup was because Tuoba Hong wanted to know how many people were involved in this rebellion, and also to test the various factions and alert the complacent army and court.

In Xishan, Rong Zhi and the Huo Family Army stormed into the temporary palace to protect the emperor. Tuoba Yun's men were already dead or wounded. Tuoba Yun was furious. By now, he knew he had fallen into a trap set by Tuoba Hong, but he didn't understand where he had made a mistake that aroused Tuoba Hong's suspicion. At this point, Tuoba Hong didn't mind letting Tuoba Yun know where he had failed.

Tuoba Yun should never have harbored designs on the Longlin Army. Peng Ge was Tuoba Hong's man. As early as when Tuoba Yun and Chen Yong made contact, Tuoba Hong already knew his scheme and had pretended to send Huo Xuan to Sizhou, when in fact he had her guard the emperor in Xishan. Rong Zhi entered the temporary palace to see Tuoba Hong.

He happened to overhear Tuoba Hong saying that if a regent did not have the ability to escape a perilous situation, then he was not qualified to be a regent. Seeing Rong Zhi enter, Tuoba Yun laughed repeatedly. By now, Tuoba Yun completely understood that both he and Rong Zhi were pawns of Tuoba Hong. Tuoba Hong had known about his plot for a long time but still came to Xishan, calculating against him and putting Rong Zhi in danger.

Such deep cunning was truly chilling. After Tuoba Yun was taken away, Rong Zhi's expression remained solemn. From receiving the news to protect the emperor until now, given time, he could certainly have figured out the whole story. But he didn't try to think; instead, driven by emotion, he rushed to protect the emperor in a state of anxiety. He didn't understand why this rebellion, which could clearly have been avoided, was still allowed to happen by Tuoba Hong.

Both he and Tuoba Yun were his relatives and close officials; his actions were truly disheartening. Rong Zhi was disappointed in Tuoba Hong, but how could Tuoba Hong not be disappointed in him? For the sake of romantic affections, Rong Zhi had offended court officials, causing instability in the government. Yet, he deluded himself into thinking he could stabilize the court by himself. And this act of protecting the emperor in Xishan was merely reckless bravery.

What Rong Zhi should have done was to control the overall situation in Pingcheng, not rush here to show off. Every word Tuoba Hong said was reasonable, but Rong Zhi was simply unhappy. He left in a huff, and Liu Chuyu chased after him. Just then, Huo Xuan arrived and entered the room to see Tuoba Hong.
