Commander Duan was found in his bedroom, frozen with wide-open eyes, a victim of a "pervert ghost" that indiscriminately harassed his concubines, old maids, and even the gatekeeper. Despite his military background, Commander Duan was disturbed by these events. After a night of consideration, he ordered two squads of soldiers to guard the mansion and summoned Jin Xingjian to inspect his treasures, sharing the strange incidents.

Jin Xingjian inquired about the increased number of soldiers, and Commander Duan admitted to strange occurrences in his home, describing it as something "trying to get into someone's quilt in the middle of the night and taking advantage of them." He claimed he only heard it from his servants and vowed to catch the culprit, whether human or ghost.

At Hua Xue Gallery, Lian Xuan lamented the absence of Xiao Pi, who had returned home to care for his parents, making the gallery feel "cold and lonely". While Jin Xingjian enjoyed the peace and quiet, Lian Xuan, bored, wanted to retrieve the seal and confront Yu Shao Bai. Jin Xingjian suspected the seal was with the demon causing trouble at Commander Duan's mansion.

Lian Xuan suggested a plan to weaken the demon for Jin Xingjian to secure the seal, but Jin Xingjian warned him to be cautious and not offend Commander Duan, suggesting Xiao Qing accompany him. Later, Ye Ming arrived at Hua Xue Gallery but hesitated to enter. Jin Xingjian invited her in, and she attempted to leave, claiming she was "passing by," but Jin Xingjian reminded her of her previous visit.

Ye Ming confided in Jin Xingjian, expressing her guilt and concern for Yu Shao Bai, admitting she had been "searching for the truth" but grew "scared" of what she found. She revealed her role in changing his fate, causing him to endure "the pain of death over and over," leading him to "turning demonic because of me."

Though their past love was real, she now felt "only remorse and guilt" and feared Yu Shao Bai, weakened from sealing and surviving on animal blood, "won't last for long." She believed "only the core of Nine-tailed Fox can help him." Jin Xingjian offered his help, promising to assist her if it would bring her "peace of mind". Although Ye Ming declined initially, Jin Xingjian secretly resolved to prove that "everything is not your fault."

Lian Xuan and Xiao Qing, dressed as demon hunters, arrived at Commander Duan's mansion. Li Adjutant, recognizing Lian Xuan, questioned their presence. Lian Xuan claimed an "evil presence" and declared his intention to "eliminate it," mentioning Commander Duan's tomb expedition and the wooden trunks as the source. After a horse went missing from the stable, Li Adjutant suggested consulting Lian Xuan.

Commander Duan dismissed them as "con artists" and ordered Li Adjutant to "kick them out" after Xiao Qing identified herself as Lian Xuan's "girlfriend." The concubines were frightened by the nightly disturbances. Commander Duan, frustrated with their talk of ghosts, went to the garden and encountered A'Wan drinking from the fountain. Struck by her appearance, he flirted with her and invited her to his room. In his room, he offered her a life of luxury as his fourth concubine.

A'Wan saw his "bad intention" and beat him into submission, after which he was captivated by her spirit. Despite his injuries, Commander Duan arranged a lavish meal for her, but she refused his advances, stating she beat him for his "bad intention" and thanked him for the food. Learning she was an orphan, Commander Duan offered her a permanent place in his household, which A'Wan accepted on the condition that he provide her with food and lodging.

Meanwhile, Ye Ming sought information about the Nine-tailed Fox from a cat demon, but was nearly ambushed. Jin Xingjian intervened, saving her. The cat demon explained the rarity of Nine-tailed Foxes and the dangers of obtaining their essence forcibly, warning that "only if the Nine-tailed Fox willingly offered" would the quest succeed. She advised them to abandon the quest. Jin Xingjian arrived, claiming he was "passing by".

Ye Ming expressed frustration, but Jin Xingjian reassured her they would find what they were looking for. The One-eyed General informed Yu Shao Bai about Ye Ming and Jin Xingjian's search, noting Jin Xingjian's lack of intervention, and ordered continued surveillance, cautioning against "doing anything rash." Ye Lina visited Jin Xingjian with fish soup, explaining she used the back door to avoid troubling him.

Jin Xingjian considered bringing Xiao Pi back, but Ye Lina suggested letting Xiao Pi stay home to care for his grandfather, volunteering to care for Jin Xingjian herself, and noted that chickens had been "going missing every now and then" from her house and nearby families, suspecting weasels. This information about the disappearing chickens resonated with Ye Ming. Following a lead, Ye Ming found Bai A'Jiu being accused of stealing a chicken.

After paying the man for the chicken, Ye Ming told Bai A'Jiu that "if you know it belongs to someone, that's called stealing." Bai A'Jiu revealed herself as a fox demon and denied knowing any Nine-tailed Foxes. Lu Jin Zhi, her beloved, then appeared. They returned home, where Lu Jin Zhi cooked chicken soup. Bai A'Jiu declared she would "steal another one tomorrow," prompting Lu Jin Zhi to firmly state he would "never eat stolen chickens."

Bai A'Jiu then fabricated a story about a "genetic disease" that required her to "steal chickens to eat in the middle of the night," which Lu Jin Zhi pretended to believe to soothe her distress, and then made her promise that they would repay the "sister" for the chicken and compensate the families whose chickens they had previously stolen.

Back at Commander Duan's mansion, Ru Mei, Ru Lan, and Ru Ju greedily asked him for treasures, money for a sick mother, and military academy admission for a brother. A'Wan overheard them complaining about Commander Duan, criticizing his hygiene and stinginess, and beat them up. Commander Duan discovered A'Wan's actions, A'Wan stated she beat them for speaking ill of him.

When A'Wan revealed the specific complaints, Commander Duan, angered by their disrespect, impulsively declared his intention to "divorce all three of them" to be with A'Wan alone, but A'Wan simply told him not to if he couldn't. Reaffirming his decision, A'Wan agreed, then declared herself hungry. The next morning, the three concubines speculated A'Wan might become his fourth wife since he hadn't spent nights with them.

Commander Duan asked them if he were to die in battle, would they be willing to "die along with me"? The concubines reacted with horrified aversion, realizing he was asking them to be "buried with him."
