Tomb of the Sea Episode 49 Recap
> Tomb of the Sea Recap
Liang Wan, still trapped in the underground room, discovered a mysterious box containing old files while sorting through canned goods. Zhang Rishan identified them as belonging to the Wang Clan. Liang Wan recognized the name "Zhang Qishan" on one file, and Zhang Rishan clarified that it was Uncle Buddha's name. Liang Wan was puzzled by other names like "Wang Meng, original name Li Meng" and "Wang Lingjuan, original name Chen Lingjuan," asking why Clan Wang members had original names.
Zhang Rishan retorted that she knew nothing about Clan Wang, explaining that they weren't bound by blood or family names but united by common purpose and belief in a world-changing secret left by Wang Zanghai. He explained that the individuals on the list had escaped Clan Wang and sought Uncle Buddha's help, promising to aid him in finding Wang Zanghai's memory. Uncle Buddha then hid them in GuTongJing.
Liang Wan realized the box's presence meant these people had been in this very room. Zhang Rishan elaborated that an accident occurred shortly after their arrival, leading Uncle Buddha to arrange for their evacuation to the city, where they would live ordinary lives while still bearing their phoenix totems.
Liang Wan wondered if any of her relatives were among them and asked if there were any contact details, but Zhang Rishan informed her that all their information had been destroyed, making their current whereabouts unknown. He reassured her, however, that she had no connection to the Wang Clan. Their conversation was interrupted by the re-emergence of the snake cypress, attempting to breach the room from above.
Zhang Rishan quickly handed Liang Wan the last of his Tianxin stone's powder, instructing her to apply it to prevent the snake cypress's attacks. Liang Wan, concerned for his safety, refused to take it all, but Zhang Rishan insisted, saying he didn't need it and that she needed to be able to run two kilometers first. As they argued, the snake cypress broke through the roof.
Zhang Rishan fended it off with a torch and a knife, getting tangled momentarily but managing to escape danger as only one tentacle had breached the roof. Liang Wan watched in admiration, exclaiming how handsome he was. More snake cypress tentacles began to invade through the enlarging roof crack, and Liang Wan despaired, believing they would surely die. Zhang Rishan reassured her that he wouldn't let that happen. Unexpectedly, the snake cypress retreated.
Zhang Rishan realized the wind had picked up, bringing with it the distinct sounds of the ancient city. He informed Liang Wan that the door was now deformed and impassable due to the snake cypress's assault, but opening it would be futile anyway, given the dangers outside.
He presented her with two stark choices: either they rush out and gamble on their survival, taking advantage of the wind which would open all tunnels in GuTongJing, despite the perilous path ahead filled with black-haired snakes and snake cypress that could lead to dismemberment; or they remain in the room, living indefinitely but trapped forever. Zhang Rishan gave Liang Wan the final decision.
After a moment of contemplation, she declared that they had "died once already" and should take the gamble. Though admitting she was "scared to death," she reasoned that he wouldn't be attracted to a woman who feared taking risks. As the wind swept through GuTongJing, they climbed out through the hole in the roof. Initially, the path was quiet, but soon, black-haired snakes and snake cypress appeared. Strangely, the creatures ignored them, seemingly drawn by an unseen music.
Zhang Rishan explained that both the black-haired snakes and snake cypress were mesmerized by the melodies. Liang Wan was overjoyed, believing they could finally escape GuTongJing alive. However, Zhang Rishan wanted to seize this rare opportunity to hear the "full secret" embedded within the music. He first offered to send Liang Wan out to safety, but she insisted on accompanying him to listen to the "concert."
After listening to the complete secret, Zhang Rishan cautioned Liang Wan never to reveal what she had heard to anyone outside. They then resumed their race against time, needing to reach the main gate before the wind subsided and the tunnels sealed again. Liang Wan soon grew exhausted and could run no further, suggesting Zhang Rishan leave her behind. But as the snake cypress closed in, Zhang Rishan scooped her onto his back and sprinted towards the gate.
Just as the gate began to close, he forcefully pushed Liang Wan through, leaving himself trapped inside. Liang Wan cried out his name in anguish, convinced he was lost forever. To her overwhelming relief, Zhang Rishan suddenly appeared behind her, pulling her into a tight embrace. Having finally emerged from GuTongJing, Liang Wan was ecstatic, believing they were "meant to be together" and could now live a normal life as a couple.
However, Zhang Rishan gravely stated that his life was devoted to Uncle Buddha, and his mission remained unfinished. He expressed a desire to leave "everything here," including their shared experiences. Liang Wan, heartbroken, reminded him that Uncle Buddha had been dead for many years. She accused him of missing out on a good woman and warned him about a woman's vindictive nature, to which he simply replied, "I know." She then angrily sprayed him with a can of spray.
Meanwhile, high in the snow mountain, Su Nan's snowblindness showed no signs of improvement. Wu Xie diligently made a meal for her, serving her Poached sliced beef in hot chili oil and Stewed beancurd with minced pork in pepper sauce, urging her to eat. He also patiently tried to apply goat milk to her eyes, explaining its preciousness and the master's kindness. However, Su Nan grew frustrated, violently knocking over the goat milk.
She tearfully expressed her desire to remain in the peaceful mountain, away from a world where she couldn't make her own choices, having never lived for herself. Wu Xie gently but firmly reminded her that the snow was melting, and the path would soon be clear, making it impossible for either of them to stay there indefinitely.
As Su Nan's eyesight gradually returned, she attempted to cook for Wu Xie but proved clumsy with a kitchen knife, despite her usual skill with other blades. Wu Xie playfully teased her before taking over, expertly slicing potatoes and revealing his college major was architecture. While sweeping the temple courtyard one day, Su Nan discovered a statue that appeared to be weeping.
Wu Xie explained that the statue depicted Zhang Qiling, his friend from the Zhang family, with whom he had spent three crucial days in that very temple. He recounted his five-year journey to find Zhang Qiling, which led him from Nepal to this remote location. Wu Xie reflected on Zhang Qiling's decade-long absence, noting that in his heart, it felt as if Zhang Qiling had never left.
Remembering Zhang Qiling's poor memory and concern that he might forget him, Wu Xie vowed to make him remember by embarking on a new expedition with Fatty, the "Iron Triangle" revisiting their past routes. Su Nan expressed envy for their bond, lamenting that in Clan Wang, departed members were quickly forgotten due to the prohibition of excessive personal feelings.
Wu Xie acknowledged that Zhang Qiling had made similar remarks and promised to remember Su Nan, regardless of whether she was the "Su Nan of Clan Wang" or the "teammate in the expedition," asserting that she would remain in his memories. Wu Xie then shared the tragic story of the Zanghai flower. Long ago, a young man from the Zhang family came to the snow mountain to collect Zanghai flowers.
He fell in love with Bai Ma, a local woman destined to be sacrificed to the King of Hell, and they had a child: Zhang Qiling. Knowing her death was imminent and fearing that Zhang Qiling would become emotionless if returned to the Zhang family due to their fate, Bai Ma desperately begged the master for three more days. Her worst fears were realized when the Zhang family discovered Zhang Qiling's existence and took him away.
Bai Ma chose to be buried beneath the Zanghai flowers, neither fully alive nor dead, waiting for her son to return, awaken her, and spend her final three days with her. Eventually, Zhang Qiling learned of his true identity and returned to the snow mountain. He was told by the master that his mother had awaited him for a long time. However, Bai Ma did not fully awaken.
As the Zanghai flower's medicinal properties faded, she had only three days left before true death, and she never regained consciousness. Wu Xie solemnly concluded that while some emotions may be fleeting, they are cherished for a lifetime. Meanwhile, Li Cu celebrated his birthday within the Wang Clan's base. Shen Qiong had specially decorated his room and brought him a cake from Mr. Wang, expressing that they were "finally family" and calling Mr. Wang thoughtful.
As Li Cu made a wish over the lit candles, he had a vivid hallucination of Wu Xie, who sternly told him, "Never forget where you are," and promised further instructions once he located his position, adding, "Don't forget who you really are." The sudden burst of celebratory fireworks jolted Li Cu, causing him to flinch.
Shen Qiong then presented him with a gift she had secretly purchased from a nearby village during Mr. Wang's absence, noting its rarity within the Wang Clan. Shen Qiong then asked Li Cu a poignant question: if she were "just Shen Qiong," would he like her? Li Cu hesitated, eventually affirming that he would. She pressed further, asking if he would be willing to break up with Su Wan and live an ordinary life, to which he also responded affirmatively.
However, Shen Qiong called him a liar and urged him to truly reflect before answering. Examining the gift's packaging, Li Cu spotted an address. This address triggered a memory of Wu Xie's earlier command to "Memorize it," causing him to mentally recite coordinates—East longitude 123, Northern latitude 53—before exclaiming "Bingo! Found it!" He had finally pinpointed the location of the Wang Clan base.
