Tomb of the Sea Episode 36 Recap
> Tomb of the Sea Recap
Master Black, Li Cu, and Su Wan navigated the Third Yong Road, North Sixth District, searching for Liang Wan. Li Cu asked if they remembered Huo Zhongshu, to which Master Black deduced that Huo Zhongshu's body had been discovered in this very area, suggesting he might have worked there. Su Wan questioned which of the two available paths Liang Wan might have taken, considering options to "go in" towards the central area or "go out" towards the external area.
Master Black, analyzing footprints, determined that Liang Wan and Yang Hao had run ashore with a time difference, indicating something was chasing them, which forced them to split and run without pausing at the numerous forks. He speculated that Yang Hao had likely covered Liang Wan's retreat, vividly recalling a brief moment when Yang Hao urged Liang Wan to run while he faced an approaching threat.
Su Wan complimented Master Black’s keen perception beneath his sunglasses, which Master Black dismissed while lamenting that his current mission was less enjoyable than his past adventures with Wu Xie. Master Black then urged Li Cu and Su Wan to follow his pace quickly and without fear. However, Su Wan soon tired and stopped running. Li Cu insisted they could not stop, but he was tripped by an unseen force and found himself disoriented.
After struggling to stand, he discovered that he was surrounded by desiccated corpses, Su Wan was gone, and he had returned to the initial fork. Frustrated by being pushed to such extremes, Li Cu prepared Composition C-4 explosives. Declaring himself a "Semi-Professional Master of Counter Strike" ready for a practical application, he taunted the unseen creatures, challenging them to face the C4.
When the monsters swarmed within range, Li Cu detonated the explosives, causing a powerful blast that knocked him unconscious. Meanwhile, in an adjacent tunnel, Liang Wan was startled by the explosion. A falling stone from the partial collapse struck her, and she felt her arm was badly injured, though she was relieved her face was unharmed. She used her map to try and pinpoint her location relative to where she and Yang Hao had separated.
Confronted by multiple pathways, she decided to choose one randomly when a phone suddenly began to ring. Following the sound, she entered a room and answered the phone. Despite her repeated "Hello?" , there was no sound from the other end. Simultaneously, Wang Meng reported to Wu Xie that Liang Wan had reached the designated location but the call was cut short before she could convey any information.
Wu Xie deduced that the phone line had been intentionally cut, confirming their arrival, although he found their method of announcing their presence by cutting the line to be foolish. He also observed several vehicles pursuing them, initially suspecting them to be from the Clan Wang, but then dismissed it, noting the Clan Wang typically reacts slower. Back in the room, Liang Wan noticed a clean, dust-free spot on a chair amidst thick dust, indicating someone had been there recently.
Feeling a presence, she screamed and fled the room. Liang Wan ran until she was disoriented, eventually finding herself in a room with a sink. She washed her hands, then tended to her injured arm, questioning the worth and meaning of her perilous journey. Exhausted, she eventually succumbed to sleep. In a troubling dream, she was plagued by memories of her mother’s distress.
Her mother had once begged a doctor to remove a tattoo that appeared on Liang Wan's body whenever she had a fever, deeply ashamed and worried about her daughter's behavior. Liang Wan, however, maintained she had no idea where the tattoo came from. Startled awake by a faint singing, Liang Wan discovered Master Black carrying an unconscious Su Wan.
Master Black introduced himself and explained he was Su Wan's bodyguard, although Liang Wan expressed skepticism, noting Su Wan had never mentioned him. She then urgently inquired about Li Cu. Master Black, calling Li Cu "crazy," explained that Li Cu had detonated two kilograms of Composition C-4 in an extremely confined space, blowing them up and causing Su Wan's injuries.
He grimly predicted that Li Cu, being at the epicenter, would have severe internal organ damage and would not survive long, dismissing any hope of a miracle. As a doctor, Liang Wan fiercely disagreed, stating that no conclusions could be made before all vital signs disappeared, and demanded to know Li Cu's location so she could help him.
Master Black insisted she check on Su Wan first, which she did, finding he only had minor skin trauma and had merely passed out. Still concerned for Li Cu, Liang Wan asked Master Black how he found her, to which he replied that he had followed her light, which was sufficient for his vision. He commented on Li Cu's unusual way of thinking and said Wu Xie was fortunate.
Liang Wan then asked if Master Black worked for Wu Xie, which he denied. She pressed him about Li Cu's importance, and Master Black, after some hesitation, revealed it was connected to Wu Xie. He recounted a past expedition where he and a large group discovered traces of a tropical snake in ruins in the Western Regions near Central Asia. He explained the harsh conditions and heavy losses incurred during the search before they even reached the underground tunnels.
During that expedition, he conversed with another man who complained about the lack of snake skeletons, worrying about returning empty-handed, while Master Black sarcastically dismissed his concerns. The man also questioned Master Black about a deal with Middle Eastern buyers for a snake specimen and playfully commented on Master Black's superior hearing. Master Black then revealed his theory: either the snakes didn't exist, or they were still alive. Suddenly, black-haired snakes appeared, and Master Black yelled for everyone to run.
He continued his story, explaining that he ultimately brought a live specimen back to Wu Xie, but the snake unexpectedly shattered its glass container and bit Wu Xie. Liang Wan then understood why they sought Li Cu: only he possessed the ability to read the snake’s information and uncover the truth, which was now critical since Wu Xie had been bitten. She questioned why they needed to know the full story and why Wu Xie himself didn't come.
Master Black, implying they were trapped, offered to tell her the "truth." However, Liang Wan suspected he was merely reciting a pre-made story, to which Master Black, with characteristic bluntness, confirmed his direct style, telling her to listen or not, as she pleased.
