Shen Li was searching for a way to break the barrier at Tianwaitian. She knew she could not force her way through, or else Xing Zhi would suffer backlash. On the desk, a painting was still spread out—Xing Zhi had once repaired the celestial breaches through this painting remotely. Shen Li wondered if she could find the barrier’s exit through the painting and decided to give it a try.

She opened a scroll and saw Xing Zhi, dressed in gray, looking desolate and sorrowful. He sat alone by a table, drowning his sorrows in alcohol, surrounded by shards of broken wine jars. This was not the usual Xing Zhi. Shen Li realized that this was Xing Zhi from a thousand years ago. Over the millennia, Xing Zhi had guarded the Ninth Heaven alone, enduring endless loneliness and pain.

In the dead of night, when all was silent, he felt overwhelmed with anguish. Standing on shards of broken pottery, he looked down upon the vast, ever-revolving three realms and could no longer feel the meaning of his own existence. Shen Li then saw the Spirit Realm from a thousand years ago. She witnessed Liu Yu and the leader of the Spirit Clan.

The leader wanted to use the blazing fire in the alchemy furnace to forge more chimeras, believing that endless power would then be within their grasp. From the furnace emerged a man with totems on his face, evidently the king of the chimeras created by the Spirit Realm. Liu Yu watched him go mad and comforted him with her warm hand, telling him not to be afraid, even giving him a name: Feng Lai.

Feng Lai seemed to trust Liu Yu deeply, and so the leader instructed Liu Yu to take care of the chimera king. Suddenly, Shen Li heard Xing Zhi approaching and quickly returned from the painting. Upon seeing Xing Zhi, she expressed her wish to be returned to the Spirit Realm. Xing Zhi refused, unwilling to let her go again.

He had spent days reflecting on the rules set by the Celestial Realm, realizing that the so-called Heavenly Law was not flawless. They demanded he guard the three realms without allowing him to feel love—yet why give him emotions at all? Why grant him supreme power and yet bestow upon him a tender, sensitive heart? Shen Li, having just seen the scenes from a thousand years ago, naturally understood Xing Zhi’s current predicament.

She helped him vent his frustration, and while he was momentarily relaxed, she again brought up the idea of opening the barrier. However, Xing Zhi remained unmoved and deliberately changed the subject, saying he would make something delicious for Shen Li to fill her stomach. Meanwhile, Fu Rong Jun unknowingly wandered into a forbidden place, where he saw Mo Fang lying motionless inside a barrier.

Having had some past friendship with Mo Fang in the Spirit Realm, Fu Rong Jun ventured into the barrier and gave the injured Mo Fang a healing pill. Suddenly, the barrier vanished. After Xing Zhi left, Shen Li once again opened the painting at Tianwaitian. The previous two times, she had seen the Spirit Realm and the Chimera King. She did not know if these scenes appeared randomly or were meant to guide her.

Unable to suppress her curiosity, Shen Li continued to observe. This time, she saw Liu Yu interacting with the Chimera King. She also saw her master—turns out Liu Yu was the junior sister of her master. When her master first met Feng Lai, she was extremely shocked and rebuked Liu Yu for aiding evil by turning a chimera into human form.

Feng Lai, seeing Lingzun glaring at Liu Yu, retaliated by spitting at Lingzun like a llama, behaving just like one. Liu Yu even helped Feng Lai expand his knowledge and tried to persuade her senior sister to calm down. At that time, Feng Lai had only just taken human form and still resembled a child. Later, as Liu Yu and Feng Lai spent more time together, their bond deepened.

Liu Yu no longer saw Feng Lai as a chimera, but more like a gentle and loyal Spirit Clan comrade. Watching these scenes unfold in the painting, the doubts in Shen Li’s heart gradually began to unravel.
