The Great Ruler Episode 12 Recap
> The Great Ruler Recap
No-Face Taoist ordered all his forces to obey Young Master Liu Mubai's commands for the upcoming battle. Mubai then led a team to feign the capture of Mr. Mo and his companions. During the confrontation, Mr. Mo denounced Liu Qingtian for fawning over the Black Dragon and also criticized Mubai.
Mubai, in turn, pleaded with his father to spare Mr. Mo, explaining that their goal was to unite Beiling, not to slaughter its people, and suggested that they should rather win over the highly respected experts from Beiling School. No-Face Taoist agreed, and Mr. Mo along with the others were taken away as prisoners. No-Face Taoist then reminded them that Mubai’s engagement with Tang Qian'er was scheduled for two days later.
Mubai suggested postponing the ceremony due to the ongoing war, but No-Face Taoist dismissed the idea, asserting their advantage given Mu Feng's recent defeats and the capture of his experts. Liu Qingtian then instructed Mubai to thank No-Face Taoist. Later, Qian'er confronted Mubai, expressing her profound unhappiness. She resented her "spineless father" for marrying her off to a man who "aids a devil."
She tearfully accused Mubai of betraying friends and capturing teachers, asking if she would be his next victim. Mubai tried to explain himself, but Qian'er cut him off, declaring that her heart had already stopped beating for him. Despite her protests, the engagement ceremony proceeded. After the ceremony, Jiuyou noticed Mu Chen's nervousness.
Mu Chen admitted his worries: failing to activate the Great Thousand Devil-Dispersing Array for his father's mission, and his fear of not being able to rescue Luo Li. When Jiuyou pressed him to choose between the two, Mu Chen firmly stated he would complete the mission first, then rescue Luo Li. He added that if he couldn't save her, he would die by her side, a sentiment Jiuyou quickly dismissed, telling him not to involve her in such a fate.
Following their plan, Lord Tang covertly released Mr. Mo and the other prisoners. Mu Chen then activated a spiritual energy fluctuation with Jiuyou’s help, causing No-Face Taoist's power to weaken significantly. Mubai seized the opportunity and attacked No-Face Taoist, revealing his betrayal. Enraged, No-Face Taoist activated a gu-poison he had previously administered to Mubai, incapacitating and capturing him. Liu Qingtian was bewildered by Mubai’s actions, but Mubai declared that No-Face Taoist deserved death.
Liu Qingtian begged No-Face Taoist to release his son, but No-Face Taoist demanded information about the spiritual energy fluctuation Mu Chen had caused, which Mubai refused to provide. Just as No-Face Taoist was about to strike Mubai, Qian'er arrived, followed by Tang and his men. Tang urged Liu Qingtian to turn away from his destructive path. Taking advantage of the distraction, No-Face Taoist fled with Mubai, and Liu Qingtian followed them.
Immediately after, Devil Mo Xingtian's forces appeared, attacking Tang and his allies. Upon learning that No-Face Taoist had fled to Tang Territory, which was close to the Lake of Dragon, Mu Chen resolved to pursue them. Meanwhile, Qian'er tearfully implored Mu Feng to rescue Mubai, whose feigned surrender was now known to her. Mu Feng assured her that he would save Mubai and ordered a full pursuit of No-Face Taoist.
Mr. Mo then questioned Mu Feng about the Great Thousand Devil-Dispersing Array, concerned that it was incomplete. Mu Feng explained that 70% of the formation was ready, which was sufficient to destroy the Lake of Dragon, but achieving precise targeting was incredibly difficult. It would require someone to sacrifice their body to guide the immense spiritual energy flow, effectively "feeding oneself to the formation."
Mr. Mo volunteered for this perilous task, but Mu Feng insisted on undertaking it himself, asserting that Beiling needed Mr. Mo more than him. He entrusted Mr. Mo with completing the remaining 30% of the formation. Tormented by Mubai's suffering under the gu-poison, Liu Qingtian was overcome by the evil Power of Whisper, which No-Face Taoist had made him accept. Mu Chen arrived to find a corrupted Liu Qingtian attacking his own son.
Mubai desperately tried to appeal to his father, reminding him of his identity as the lord of Liu Territory and a leader of the human clan, and recounting cherished memories of their past, urging him to drop his sword and overcome the evil influence. No-Face Taoist mocked Mubai, stating that Liu Qingtian was merely his puppet.
When Liu Qingtian stabbed Mubai, Mu Chen intervened, realizing that Liu Qingtian was completely under control and, to save Mubai, was forced to fatally wound Liu Qingtian. In his final moments, Liu Qingtian briefly regained consciousness, acknowledging his irreparable mistakes and warning Mubai not to repeat them. He expressed his immense pride in Mubai before passing away in his son's arms, leaving Mubai grief-stricken.
Mu Chen continued his pursuit of the fleeing No-Face Taoist, who was now holding Luo Li hostage. No-Face Taoist threatened to kill Luo Li, declaring that her death would cause Mu Chen unbearable pain, even if he failed to acquire the Luo God bloodline. He demanded Mu Chen kneel. Jiuyou vehemently urged Mu Chen not to surrender, insisting that defeating No-Face Taoist was Luo Li's only hope. However, Mu Chen knelt. Jiuyou then helped Mu Chen rescue Luo Li.
Enraged, No-Face Taoist inflicted the Dark Blood Spell upon Mu Chen and boasted that his Spirit-Scattering Art specifically countered those with beast contracts, making Mu Chen's spiritual beast power ineffective. Severely wounded, Mu Chen, as a last resort, decided to activate the Eight Desolations Array despite Jiuyou's warnings about its immense power and equally severe backlash, which could cost him his life. Jiuyou declared she would die with him if necessary.
Mu Chen unleashed the Eight Desolations Array, killing No-Face Taoist, but both he and Jiuyou were left gravely injured. Mu Feng prepared to sacrifice himself to guide the Great Thousand Devil-Dispersing Array to its precise target. However, Mubai, believing that the disaster was caused by the Liu family, paralyzed Mu Feng, took his sword, and activated the formation himself, sacrificing his own life. He told his father he would join him soon.
The Great Thousand Devil-Dispersing Array successfully destroyed the Gathering Source Array, stripping all Liu Territory soldiers of their evil spiritual power and leading to their utter defeat. Mr. Mo arrived and found Mu Feng, who explained that Mubai had taken his place and activated the formation. Mu Chen survived the ordeal due to the protection of the Great Futu Pagoda within him, but No-Face Taoist's Dark Blood Spell rendered him blind.
Mu Feng learned that the healing method for this ancient spell had been lost for thousands of years, but he vowed to find a cure for Mu Chen's eyes. Luo Li remained by the injured and blind Mu Chen's side, becoming his eyes. She helped him draw spiritual formations and lovingly prepared his medicine. In his consciousness, Mu Chen could still interact with Jiuyou, but he expressed his deep sorrow that he could no longer see Luo Li's face.
