The Fox's Summer Season 2 Episode 17 Recap
> The Fox's Summer Season 2 Recap
The Han family enjoys a meal together, where Xia Meng and Han Zhipeng gently prod Li Yanshu about her and Gu Chengze's marriage plans, urging them to get married soon. Li Yanshu secretly smiles at their eagerness but initially hesitates, citing Gu Chengze’s temporary unemployment. However, Xia Meng assures her that she values their sincerity over financial status, even offering to invest if Gu Chengze decides to start his own company.
Li Yanshu then excitedly shares the good news of Gu Chengze's mother's rapid recovery and reveals Han Junrui's surprising talent for playing the piano. Xia Meng is visibly moved by a video of Junrui, reflecting on how when one door closes, another often opens, and sheds tears. They discuss the possibility of Junrui applying to the Juilliard preschool.
Later, Xia Meng secretly contacts Gu Chengze, explaining that due to Yanshu's distant attitude, she prefers to directly ask him about his intentions, specifically his plans for marriage. Having experienced Han Zhipeng's illness, Xia Meng has become more open-minded, now wishing only for her children's happiness. Gu Chengze confirms his deep desire to marry Li Yanshu and expresses his long-standing wish to formally visit the Han family.
Xia Meng shares her past regrets, emphasizing that her only concern now is her children's happiness. She suggests arranging a formal meeting between their parents. Gu Chengze then confides in Xia Meng that he is planning to propose to Yanshu soon and asks her to keep it a secret, to which she readily agrees.
Gu Chengze then enlists Gu Jinyun and Gao Yang to help him brainstorm proposal ideas for Li Yanshu, emphasizing his wish for a truly unique and unforgettable event. Gu Jinyun, while surprised by the news, realizes he harbors no resentment, confirming he has genuinely moved on from Li Yanshu. He suggests a lavish, high-end proposal: booking an entire restaurant, a live band, copious amounts of roses, and a custom diamond ring.
Gu Chengze, however, finds this idea too extravagant and not in line with his style. Gao Yang then proposes a public proposal at a fountain square, but Gu Chengze dismisses it, concerned about potential public embarrassment if Li Yanshu were to refuse. Gu Jinyun receives an urgent and terse phone call from his grandmother, Gu Taitai, and has to leave immediately. Gao Yang then recounts a creative proposal he heard about, involving people from various countries repeating a specific phrase.
Gu Chengze appreciates the originality but decides against copying it. They ultimately decide to postpone further planning and focus on selecting a diamond ring. At the jewelry store, as they meticulously choose, the sales associate mistakenly assumes Gu Chengze and Gao Yang are a couple, complimenting Gao Yang on how well the ring suits him and remarking on his "boyfriend's" apparent devotion. Mortified, Gao Yang angrily pulls Gu Chengze out of the store.
Meanwhile, Gu Jinyun faces a tense company meeting where shareholders confront him about his unauthorized investment in the Han Corporation. Despite his attempts to justify his actions and dismiss rumors of a marriage alliance with the Han family, the shareholders are furious. Gu Taitai tries to defend Gu Jinyun, suggesting that Sheng Hong's enterprising spirit means allowing younger generations to make mistakes.
However, the shareholders remain unconvinced and vote to remove Gu Jinyun from his presidential post and reinstate Gu Chengze as CEO. Gu Jinyun defiantly accepts their decision. Later, a frustrated Gu Taitai instructs her assistant to find or fabricate any flaw in Gu Chengze to prevent his return, determined to secure Gu Jinyun's position.
One day, while visiting Gu Chengze's mother, Fu Wanyu, at the hospital, Gu Chengze steps away to speak with a nurse, leaving Li Yanshu in the car. He inadvertently leaves his detailed proposal plan in the car, which Li Yanshu discovers and reads with a growing smile. Upon his return, a radiant Li Yanshu announces she has something important to tell him and directs him to a place that holds special meaning for them: the spot of their first kiss.
Reminiscing about the moment, she kneels before him and asks, "Gu Chengze, are you willing to marry me?" Though his own elaborate proposal plans were unexpectedly preempted by this unconventional girl, Gu Chengze, with a joyous smile, replies, "Li Yanshu, I do." He then playfully chides her for not declaring her love in return, to which she playfully declines. With the successful proposal, wedding preparations are underway.
Gu Chengze formally visits the Han family, presenting gifts to Han Zhipeng and Xia Meng. Xia Meng notices the engagement ring on Li Yanshu's finger, prompting Gu Chengze to officially announce their engagement and reiterate his promise to cherish and love her. Han Zhipeng and Xia Meng wholeheartedly approve, insisting that the wedding take place before the end of the year. Xia Meng then offers to visit Gu Chengze's mother soon to finalize the wedding date.
Adhering to Chinese tradition, Xia Meng tells Li Yanshu that she must move out of Gu Chengze's home and back to the Han family residence. Despite her initial reluctance, Li Yanshu sighs and agrees to pack her belongings and move back the following day.
