The First Frost Episode 28 Recap
> The First Frost Recap
One morning at Beiyu High School, Wen Yifan boarded the bus without topping up her card. A girl in the same school uniform silently swiped her card for Wen Yifan. Wen Yifan wanted to exchange contact information to repay her, but the girl declined. Years later, at the Beiyu Public Security Bureau, Wen Yifan introduced herself to Zeng Yi, Wen Ming's cousin, mentioning that she was Wen Ming’s cousin.
Wen Yifan shared her painful past involving Che Xingde, recalling how she had jumped off a balcony with him, but survived. She confessed that she was haunted by his face and couldn't sleep well. She then gently asked Zeng Yi to recount what happened that night. Zeng Yi explained that Che Xingde had accosted her in the bathroom while Wen Ming was away at a class reunion. Despite her struggles and screams, Che Xingde attempted to assault her.
Zeng Yi revealed that she had been enduring Che Xingde's unsettling gaze since marrying into the family. She had heard about Wen Yifan's past with him, and the family, aware that Che Xingde had largely funded their home, had pressured her to tolerate it. Che Yanqin, Wen Ming's mother, intervened and pulled Che Xingde away. Zeng Yi retreated to her room. Che Yanqin confronted Che Xingde, accusing him of trying to assault her daughter-in-law.
Che Xingde denied it, claiming Zeng Yi had seduced him. Che Yanqin reminded him of a past crime—killing Mr. Guo's daughter—and how she had helped him cover it up. Zeng Yi, overhearing the conversation, secretly recorded it on her phone, determined to report the crime. Wen Yifan praised Zeng Yi for her courage. The investigators confirmed the victim's description matched Guo Ling, who was murdered during her high school years in Beiyu.
Wen Yifan remembered the girl who helped her on the bus that day. Wen Yifan visited Mr. Guo, Guo Ling’s father, who was grieving and full of regret for not supporting his daughter’s writing. He admitted that he had convinced himself that Guo Ling was staying away to focus on writing and was upset with him. Wen Yifan assured him that she would report the case truthfully.
While at the guesthouse, Wen Yifan received a message from Sang Yan and informed him that Che Xingde was a suspect in the case and was on the run. She warned him to be careful, worried that Che Xingde might target him. Sang Yan urged her to prioritize her safety and to listen to a recording he had sent to her.
Wen Yifan also mentioned meeting Chen Xi's mother, the policewoman who had helped her in the past, and suggested going to Chen Xi’s wedding together. Sang Yan realized it was a hint for Wen Yifan's birthday wish, promising to fulfill it. Wen Yifan then confirmed she would be ready for him to pick her up at 8:30 PM after work.
Wen Yifan was unsettled by a past threat from Che Xingde, where he had said he would find her no matter where she went if he ever hit rock bottom. Feeling uneasy, she decided to leave work early and texted Sang Yan to come pick her up. Sang Yan drove to the TV station to pick up Wen Yifan. Spotting Che Xingde lurking nearby, Sang Yan called the police and then confronted Che Xingde, telling him to surrender.
Che Xingde attacked Sang Yan with a knife, leaving him injured. Wen Yifan became worried when Sang Yan didn't answer his phone. She heard sirens and called again, only to be informed by a police officer that Sang Yan had been stabbed and was being taken to Nanwu Central Hospital. Rushing to the hospital, Wen Yifan received a call from Sang Yan, who reassured her that he was fine.
When she arrived, she found Sang Yan's hand bandaged with eight stitches. She scolded him for confronting Che Xingde instead of simply calling the police. Sang Yan confessed his deep feelings, regretting his past pride that kept them apart. He said that he had spent years holding onto a meaningless grudge and that he was regretting for only thinking of himself as the "weaker one" in their relationship.
He was happy that he could finally protect her and bring her out of her pain and despair. He expressed deep regret for not attempting to rescue her from her hidden pain and despair during those two years. He told her that he had finally caught the "shadow that haunted her," and that from now on, her world would be filled only with light.
