The First Frost Episode 11 Recap
> The First Frost Recap
One night, Wen Yifan sleepwalked into the kitchen, opened the fridge, and started stuffing rice into her mouth. Her cousin, Wen Ming, was startled, thinking she was a thief, and hit her with a stick. The next day, as Wen Yifan practiced dancing on the rooftop, Sang Yan noticed bruises on her arm. He pressed her for an explanation, but she remained silent.
Feeling protective, Sang Yan urged her to take care of herself, especially with her art exam approaching, and then drew a butterfly over her injury, telling her the scars would eventually fly away. On the 77th day of their official cohabitation, Wen Yifan woke up to find the chairs she had stacked against her door the previous night were gone, a clear sign she had sleepwalked again. Anxiously, she asked Sang Yan if she had done anything inappropriate.
Sang Yan claimed she had done something even more outrageous than before, something too embarrassing to articulate, but promised she would "repay" him for it later. Misinterpreting his words, Wen Yifan thought he meant financial compensation and offered to write him an IOU, explaining she hadn't received her paycheck yet. She even suggested he should just hit her to wake her up if it happened again, to which Sang Yan retorted, "Who do you think I am?"
Still confused, Wen Yifan then directly asked, "Where did I kiss you?" At the TV station, two new interns arrived, including Mu Chengyun. Fang Li, another new intern, recognized Mu Chengyun as a former child star from a movie called "Waking up to Ghosts." Mu Chengyun was assigned to work under Wen Yifan.
Meanwhile, Wen Yifan received a message from Sang Yan clarifying the "debt": he claimed her "sanity was overpowered by desire late at night" and she "attempted to possess" him. When Wen Yifan's landlord contacted her about rent, Sang Yan "accidentally" transferred 40,000 yuan to her, an extra zero on the amount, and insisted she could repay him slowly, implying she would have to stay with him until the entire "debt" was settled.
During a team meeting, Wen Yifan and her colleague Wang Jing were left with two news topics after another team took the most sensational one. Wang Jing chose "New house near cemetery," remarking that Wen Yifan was afraid of ghosts, leaving Wen Yifan with the story of "a pitiful mother searching for her disappeared daughter." Mu Chengyun openly voiced his dissatisfaction, calling it a "needle in a haystack" topic that would be "arduous but fruitless."
He then hinted at a reward if he managed to help find the daughter, which reminded Wen Yifan of Sang Yan rewarding her with a cake when she passed her art exam years ago. The missing daughter's mother was located in Yihe, necessitating a business trip for Wen Yifan and Mu Chengyun, much to Wen Yifan's reluctance. Mu Chengyun became increasingly attentive, calling himself Wen Yifan's "exclusive intern" and waiting for her after work, even preparing materials for their trip.
Zhong Siqiao noticed Mu Chengyun's clear interest in Wen Yifan, but Wen Yifan simply dismissed it as professional enthusiasm. Later, Wen Yifan asked Zhong Siqiao to stay the night at her apartment to help her monitor her sleepwalking. Upon arriving, they were surprised to find Sang Yan and Duan Jiaxu emerging from a room wearing bathrobes. Wen Yifan gave them a knowing smile, suggesting they continue and she wouldn't interrupt.
The next morning at breakfast, Wen Yifan playfully teased Sang Yan about Duan Jiaxu, but Sang Yan maintained a serious facade, claiming he had invited Duan Jiaxu to "protect himself." Wen Yifan then informed Sang Yan she would not be home that night as she was traveling to Yihe.
In Yihe, Wen Yifan and Mu Chengyun interviewed the mother, who tearfully explained her daughter had sent her money monthly after graduating and moving to Yihe, but suddenly stopped before Chinese New Year, leaving her in distress.
The mother expressed concern about her daughter, insisting it was "only natural for a daughter to take care of her mother," especially since she had "lost her husband and her job to raise her," and questioned her daughter's right to treat her this way. During the interview, Wen Yifan received a call from her own mother, who revealed she had been pressuring Sang Yan about Wen Yifan's living arrangements, suggesting she stay with her paternal grandmother.
Wen Yifan, finding her own mother's behavior uncomfortably similar to the interviewee's, quickly ended the call. After the interview, Wen Yifan confided in Mu Chengyun that the mother's intense, controlling love was "suffocating" and amounted to "emotional blackmail," much like her own mother, though her mother never sought her out after she left Nanwu.
Wen Yifan concluded that this controlling behavior was likely the reason the daughter had disappeared, stating she would not forgive her own mother for similar past actions, at least not at that moment. A colleague called Wen Yifan to inform her that the daughter, Lin Yuqing, had been found working as an administrator at a dance studio in Hong Kong. Wen Yifan called Sang Yan to tell him she would be delayed by a day.
Sang Yan, hearing Mu Chengyun's voice in the background, became visibly concerned, recalling him as "the guy you saw in front of the supermarket last time." In Hong Kong, Wen Yifan and Mu Chengyun located Lin Yuqing. Lin Yuqing adamantly refused to have any contact with her mother.
She revealed that her mother had remarried and had a son, but after her second husband and son abandoned her, she had suddenly remembered Lin Yuqing and was now seeking her out again. Lin Yuqing recorded a brief video for her mother, asking her to stop looking for her, but refused to elaborate further for the public, stating she would not "tearfully accuse her" of "emotional blackmail" or treating her as "property."
Observing some young students struggling with dance moves, Wen Yifan instinctively stepped in to demonstrate, captivating Mu Chengyun with her elegant movements. She gently instructed a girl named Isabella to focus her gaze forward to prevent dizziness while turning. Upon their return to Nanwu, Mu Chengyun's sister arrived to pick him up, offering Wen Yifan a ride home.
However, Sang Yan suddenly appeared, claiming he was "just seeing a friend off" and offering to drive Wen Yifan home as a "basic courtesy" from a roommate. Mu Chengyun's sister found Sang Yan vaguely familiar. As they drove, Sang Yan asked Wen Yifan if she had sleepwalked in Hong Kong, to which she replied she hadn't, relieving his tension. He then inquired if she had visited any college friends or explored Yihe.
Wen Yifan dismissed the idea, stating that her four years of college and two years of internship in Yihe held no cherished memories for her; it was a place she wished she had "never been." She recalled being slandered at Yihe Daily, which contributed to her decision to leave and return to Nanwu, as there was nothing left for her there. She also remembered not even being able to afford a simple cake for herself when she departed Yihe. Sang Yan then referenced her previous statement about the last time she flew being to Yihe, asking her why. She replied that she went to see an old friend.
