Before Lin Xiangyuan surrendered, he left all the documents for the entertainment center project with Lei Yuzheng. Lei Yuzheng returned to Yutian, where He Qunfei and other staff welcomed him back warmly. Jiang Jin then informed Lei Yuzheng about Lin Xiangyuan's situation, revealing that Lin Xiangyuan had no intention of staying after the project was arranged, knowing it was the joint work of Lei Yuzheng and his late father.
Lei Yuzheng worried about the impact on Jiang Fanlv, but felt a sense of relief when Jiang Jin confirmed that she was aware of Lin Xiangyuan's decision to turn himself in. Jiang Jin expressed Yutian's and everyone's need for Lei Yuzheng and thanked him on Lin Xiangyuan’s behalf. Lei Yuzheng, in turn, stated he would keep Lin Xiangyuan's office as it was. Du Xiaosu successfully completed a design project for a client introduced by Mr. Liu.
Mr. Liu called to thank her and encouraged her to participate in the Young Architect Competition. He mentioned that the winner would get a year of study in Paris and, most notably, that her idol, Professor Ohm, would be leading the team this year. Du Xiaosu, despite being busy, became very excited and eager to try upon hearing Professor Ohm's name. Later, Mr. Ning proactively approached Du Xiaosu with a significant project offer from Yutian.
He presented a contract with favorable pricing, but Du Xiaosu politely declined, suspecting Lei Yuzheng's indirect involvement. She clarified that she wasn't unwilling to collaborate with Yutian because of the company itself, but rather because she didn't want to come across Mr. Lei. She expressed her desire to achieve her goals through her own efforts, one step at a time. Mr. Ning understood and did not press the issue.
Lei Yuzheng sent Du Xiaosu a text message, asking to meet that evening. Du Xiaosu arrived at the agreed time, but Lei Yuzheng was late. She called him, but his phone was constantly busy. On his way to meet Du Xiaosu, Lei Yuzheng suddenly received a call from Jiang Fanlv, informing him that Jiang Jin had suffered a heart attack, possibly triggered by Lin Xiangyuan's surrender. Jiang Fanlv added that Jiang Jin wanted to speak with Lei Yuzheng.
Without hesitation, Lei Yuzheng rushed to Jiang Jin's side, casually leaving his phone in the car and thus missing Du Xiaosu’s subsequent calls. At Jiang Jin’s home, Lei Yuzheng found Jiang Jin weakened but recovering, and showed him great care. Jiang Jin, concerned about his declining health and Jiang Fanlv's future, earnestly requested Lei Yuzheng to look after her like his own sister.
Lei Yuzheng readily agreed, assuring Jiang Jin that he would always care for Jiang Fanlv like a sibling. He also informed Jiang Jin that he had already arranged for the best lawyer for Lin Xiangyuan. Jiang Jin was relieved and expressed his appreciation for Lei Yuzheng's compassion, noting his similarity to his own father in forgiving past grievances and still treating him so well.
Lei Yuzheng urged Jiang Jin to focus on his recovery, reminding him that the past was behind them. Jiang Fanlv also thanked Lei Yuzheng for his help with her father and Lin Xiangyuan. She then reminded Lei Yuzheng about his date with Du Xiaosu, prompting him to rush off. However, by the time he arrived at the meeting spot, Du Xiaosu had already left.
The next morning, Lei Yuzheng went to Du Xiaosu's home to explain his absence from their date. Du Xiaosu, however, immediately confronted him about his hidden attempts to help her with projects, specifically mentioning the one from Ning Weicheng. Lei Yuzheng admitted to recommending her to Ning Weicheng, urging her not to let such a good opportunity pass.
Du Xiaosu vehemently refused his assistance, stating that her persistence was important and that she was not "any designer" but Du Xiaosu, determined to succeed independently. She firmly told him she was tired and asked him to leave, insisting that she had her own career and pursuits and wanted him to stop interfering with them. She felt he had been trying to understand her life and dreams but had never truly understood her.
Du Xiaosu then focused on preparing for the Young Architect Competition. She quickly completed her design work and submitted it to the committee. Lei Yuzheng was also preoccupied with his work, and they did not proactively communicate with each other. Upon her return from honeymoon, Zou Siqi visited Du Xiaosu, bringing her coconut candy and an amulet she got to protect Du Xiaosu's love with Lei Yuzheng from obstruction.
Du Xiaosu confided in Zou Siqi that she felt her background, thoughts, and experiences were too different from Lei Yuzheng's. Zou Siqi reassured her that differences could make a relationship more interesting. Soon after, Du Xiaosu received a congratulatory call from Mr. Liu, informing her that her design had been selected, and she was invited to Paris for the finals.
Du Xiaosu was overjoyed, but Zou Siqi cautioned her, asking if she truly cared for Lei Yuzheng and urging her to explain things to him before leaving, warning that a missed opportunity in love could be gone forever. Du Xiaosu, however, seemed determined, asserting that if the relationship couldn't withstand separation, it wasn't strong enough, and that she might regret it for life if she didn't pursue this competition.
He Qunfei excitedly reported Du Xiaosu's selection for the Paris competition to Lei Yuzheng. Hearing this, Lei Yuzheng immediately went to Du Xiaosu, pleading with her to stay. Du Xiaosu, however, reiterated that their life paths were fundamentally different from the very beginning, like two parallel lines that could never meet.
She asked him to let her go, saying she sought a change of environment in Paris to find what she truly desired for her studio, which had been facing difficulties. Lei Yuzheng, feeling her resolute words, left in frustration without looking back. As Du Xiaosu packed her bags for Paris, Zou Siqi once again urged her to reconsider her decision about Lei Yuzheng.
Du Xiaosu admitted that if she kept thinking, she wouldn't be able to leave, emphasizing that his life was full of possibilities while she only had this one chance. Later that night, Butler Duan found Lei Yuzheng troubled and joined him for a drink and a chat.
Lei Yuzheng confessed his anxieties, feeling like a coward in relationships and struggling with his inability to openly express his love while also fearing he might become an obstacle to Du Xiaosu's dreams, even though he couldn't let go of her. Butler Duan offered him sagely advice, comparing the gap between people to ice in a drink that needs slow warming to melt.
He also reminded Lei Yuzheng of his father's enduring love for his late wife and warned against the lifelong regret of missed destiny and people. Lei Yuzheng acknowledged his words, saying he didn't mind any gap between them, only wishing for Du Xiaosu to pursue the life she desired. Du Xiaosu called Teacher Sun, expressing her desire to visit the island children before she left for a while.
Teacher Sun welcomed her, and the day after tomorrow, Du Xiaosu arrived at the island. There, she was deeply moved to see the numerous learning supplies, a projector, and many other items that Lei Yuzheng had donated to the school. Teacher Sun further revealed that Lei Yuzheng had established the "Du Xiaosu Foundation," planning to recruit volunteers and gather donations to aid the island's children, and that a new school building would be completed next year.
Du Xiaosu was astonished, realizing she had been completely unaware of this significant gesture. As Du Xiaosu walked alone along the beach, she saw Lei Yuzheng waiting in the distance. He approached her, playfully teasing her about missing him. She retorted that she was simply out for a walk and if she seemed unhappy, it was only because she would miss the children.
Lei Yuzheng then admitted he was waiting for the sunset, desiring to watch it with the person he liked. Taking her hand, Lei Yuzheng poured out his heart, confessing that since meeting her, he understood love to be simple and ordinary. He wished only to spend his life with her, free from worries, watching the sunrise and sunset on Star Island.
He promised that she no longer needed to make sacrifices or betray her inner thoughts, as he would change for her. He declared that he would stay in Shanghai if she did, or wait for her if she went to Paris, vowing to follow her wherever she went. He sincerely asked her to give him the chance to care for her for the rest of his life. Moved to tears by his heartfelt words and unwavering commitment, Du Xiaosu let go of her self-imposed harshness. Their past misunderstandings melted away, and they embraced in a passionate kiss.
