The guests, impressed, began discussing famous architectural landmarks like the Dancing Towers and asked if Du Xiaosu had designed similar buildings. Feeling embarrassed, Du Xiaosu clarified that Zaha designed the Dancing Towers and she herself had only just started her own studio, handling mostly small cases. The guests, however, brushed it off as modesty.
To ease the awkward atmosphere, Lei Yuzheng invited Du Xiaosu to dance. During their dance, Lei Yuzheng remarked on their long time apart, but Du Xiaosu simply congratulated him on his return to Yutian. She expressed that they seemed to be running out of topics and that he appeared different, more at home in this kind of high-society environment. Lei Yuzheng urged her to try and get used to it for his sake.
Du Xiaosu firmly disagreed, stating that such an environment was vastly different from her own life and that she didn't need to adapt. She pointed out that his friends came from strong backgrounds and famous universities, making them comfortable there, but she had her own life. Lei Yuzheng confessed he had invited her to these parties hoping she would get accustomed to them, but Du Xiaosu questioned if that was truly possible.
When he suggested she might be biased against his friends, she retorted that their perceptions of things remained different, and perhaps she had misunderstood their past relationship, considering it merely a dream. She suggested he had only needed someone to rely on during a vulnerable time. Offended, Lei Yuzheng questioned if she saw him as a heartless man who would abandon her once his troubles passed.
Du Xiaosu concluded it wasn't a good day for such a conversation, and despite Lei Yuzheng calling her name, she turned and left the party. Outside, Xu You noticed Lei Yuzheng had been drinking and offered to drive him home. As they drove, He Qunfei, who was accompanying them, urged Xu You to drive faster, having spotted someone following them.
Lei Yuzheng then deliberately invited Xu You to stay at his place for the night, reiterating that she could spend the night there. Later, Lei Yuzheng saw someone taking pictures of his house from downstairs. He changed into workout clothes and left, instructing Xu You to stay put, as he was going out for some exercise. Feeling down after the party, Du Xiaosu called Lei Yuzheng. However, he had forgotten his phone, and Xu You answered.
Upon hearing Xu You's voice, Du Xiaosu immediately hung up. Lei Yuzheng rushed back home, where Xu You handed him his phone, mentioning it had rung while he was out. Shortly after, Lei Yuzheng received a call from his private detective, who had crucial information and asked to meet immediately in the underground garage. At the meeting, the detective provided some files, confirming progress in the investigation.
As Lei Yuzheng was leaving, two men confronted him, demanding the evidence he had just acquired. Lei Yuzheng questioned if they were after money and dared them to try and take it. After a brief scuffle, Lei Yuzheng easily overpowered both men, telling them to inform their boss to confront him directly instead of resorting to dirty tricks. Immediately, Lei Yuzheng called Liu Siyang, asking him to come to his house at once.
Upon arriving home in the rain, Lei Yuzheng first spoke to Butler Duan, expressing concern for him and suggesting he take a long-overdue rest in his hometown for a while. Lei Yuzheng also mentioned he would ask He Qunfei to book the tickets and drop him off at the airport, subtly ensuring the butler's temporary absence. Once alone with Liu Siyang, Lei Yuzheng shared the private detective's findings.
He explained that a list of client accounts showed a large volume of Yutian shares being purchased before the company's contract with SG was signed. He also presented an article by reporter Li Lu, written a year ago, which revealed Lei Yuzheng's alleged leaking of company secrets, dated the day before the SG contract. Liu Siyang confirmed that Li Lu had resigned from the newspaper in a hurry about a year ago, shortly after the report was published, suggesting he feared being discovered. Meanwhile, Lin Xiangyuan received a call from Mr. Yu. Mr. Yu informed him of their intention to acquire Yutian, detailing their plan to restructure the company for relisting. He offered Lin Xiangyuan the position of CEO if he would cooperate and support the acquisition.
Lin Xiangyuan firmly refused, expressing regret for having previously provided Mr. Yu with information about Lei Yuzheng's cooperation with SG, and stating he couldn't engage in such "immoral behavior" or betray Yutian. Mr. Yu retorted that it was too late for regrets, reminded Lin Xiangyuan that Lei Yuzheng was already investigating, and warned that if anything was uncovered, both of them would face severe consequences.
He then declared that they would formally submit the acquisition plan to the CSRC in a few days and expected Lin Xiangyuan to cooperate, implying dire repercussions if he didn't. Reflecting on the unusual stock activity—large-scale purchases of Yutian shares that were never sold for profit, even when the stock rose, and further purchases when it hit rock bottom during his imprisonment—Lei Yuzheng realized the true motive.
He shared his deduction with Liu Siyang: the ultimate goal was not to make quick money, but to acquire Yutian. Lei Yuzheng tasked Liu Siyang with investigating the sources of funds for all the suspicious accounts, while he himself planned to ask Shangguan Boyao to locate reporter Li Lu. He worried that Wang Mian's disappearance would make it harder to find Li Lu, and that their opponents were desperate and might harm others. The incident solidified Lei Yuzheng's resolve to keep Du Xiaosu from danger, leading him to decide to push her away for her safety.
Determined to push Du Xiaosu away for her safety, Lei Yuzheng invited Xu You to dinner and presented her with a large bouquet of flowers. Xu You found his behavior unusually gentle and wondered if he needed her help with something, but Lei Yuzheng simply stated he wanted to be a nice person and invite her to dinner. Unbeknownst to them, He Qunfei had invited Zou Siqi and Du Xiaosu to dinner at the very same upscale restaurant. As they settled in, Du Xiaosu looked out the window and saw Lei Yuzheng and Xu You, laughing and talking together, leaving her stunned.
