Lin Xiangyuan took a day off, preparing a nourishing soup early in the morning to appease Jiang Fanlv. He repeatedly apologized to her, promising to love her well and vowing never to hit her again, expressing his immense love. Jiang Fanlv, however, questioned if he believed hitting her was an act of love, telling him not to utter the word "love" in her presence. Despite her harsh words, she eventually softened and accepted his apology.
Since Lei Ting's death, Lei Yuzheng had been consumed by grief and distracted. He visited Shao Kaixuan, inquiring about his mother, Wanhua. Shao Kaixuan tried to conceal the truth, claiming she and Wanhua hadn't been in contact for a long time and no one knew her whereabouts. However, Lei Yuzheng suspected his mother was dead, pressing Shao Kaixuan about hiding the truth for twenty years and asking if she felt any guilt.
Eventually, Shao Kaixuan brought out a piece of clothing embroidered with "Yuzheng," which Wanhua had left before her death, explaining that it was the right time to give it to him. Shao Kaixuan then revealed the truth, starting from a stormy night when Lei Yuzheng's parents had a heated argument. His father, Lei Ting, had angrily told his mother to leave and get out, leading to Wanhua's departure despite young Lei Yuzheng's pleas for her not to go.
Lei Yuzheng had held a grudge against her for years, unaware that she had been hit by a speeding car moments after leaving. Shao Kaixuan informed Lei Yuzheng that his mother was buried at Huaxi Cemetery, also expressing that Lei Ting had been guilty his whole life, wishing to atone for Wanhua. She also told Lei Yuzheng that if he had resentment in his heart, he should resent her instead.
Lei Yuzheng drove to Huaxi Cemetery to visit his mother Wanhua's grave, where his tears flowed freely. Overwhelmed by sorrow, he went to a bar to drown his sorrows, drinking excessively. Du Xiaosu arrived shortly after and joined him for a drink. Lei Yuzheng lashed out at her, calling himself a "monster," but Du Xiaosu encouraged him to pull himself together and consider his deceased father, as well as the people who cared about him.
Lei Yuzheng rejected her advice, telling her he didn't need her sympathy and to go away, then abruptly left, stating he didn't want any relationship with her or anyone else. Du Xiaosu struggled to get Lei Yuzheng home, noticing he seemed to have a fever. Uncle Duan went to fetch medicine while Du Xiaosu cared for him. He awoke confused and tightly held her hand, calling out "Mom, please don't go!" and "Mom, please stay with me."
Du Xiaosu promised not to leave. He then had a dream where his mother, Wanhua, told him she had never forgotten him and that he was her son, but hoped he could forget her, reminding him that to forget one person is to love another more. She urged him to cherish the people around him and not to hate his dad, assuring him that she and Lei Ting were now together and very happy.
When Lei Yuzheng fully awoke, he found Du Xiaosu asleep by his bedside and gently carried her to the bed. Upon waking, Du Xiaosu discovered Lei Yuzheng had left without a word, leaving only a letter addressed to her. In the letter, Lei Yuzheng expressed gratitude for her care of his father and her presence in his life, confessing that before meeting her, he hadn't understood loneliness or emptiness.
He wrote that she brought sunshine into his life, but his heart remained dark, and he didn't want to be a burden. He asked her not to look for him and to operate the studio well, making his efforts meaningful, wishing her happiness. Heartbroken, Du Xiaosu searched for him aimlessly in the streets, but found nothing. She collapsed onto the ground in despair.
Zou Siqi and He Qunfei rushed to her side, consoling her and promising to stay with her until Lei Yuzheng returned. They discussed Lei Yuzheng's departure, with He Qunfei suggesting Lei Yuzheng chose to leave to be alone, but Zou Siqi criticized him for running away from his feelings instead of facing difficulties with Du Xiaosu.
The next morning, Du Xiaosu went to the studio early, trying to busy herself with work to forget Lei Yuzheng, but he remained in her thoughts. A problem arose when the supply chain for imported eco-friendly materials broke, and no immediate substitutes could be found, threatening project delays. Du Xiaosu made numerous phone calls to contacts, eventually resolving the issue and securing the materials.
However, she later faced another challenge when a design change by Mr. Liu introduced security risks and affected the overall design. Despite her concerns, Mr. Liu dismissed her during a phone call, attributing it to her inexperience and asserting his changes were improvements, instructing her to catch up on work after previous material-related delays. Meanwhile, a colleague showed off a large diamond ring to Zou Siqi, announcing her upcoming marriage to a man she met online, making Zou Siqi envious.
Later, Shangguan Boyao called Zou Siqi and met with her, presenting her with a large diamond ring. He clarified that the ring was just a gift and he wasn't thinking about marrying anyone at the moment. Zou Siqi realized the disparity in their expectations.
She told him that they might not belong to the same world and that she was the one who needed to figure things out, expressing gratitude for his favor and the chance to dream of a good life before bidding him farewell and breaking up. Feeling despondent, Zou Siqi went to a bar to drink. He Qunfei arrived to take her home, concerned for her safety as she was drunk.
Zou Siqi, heavily intoxicated, confessed her regret for prioritizing trivial gains over him and expressed her love for him, asking if there was a chance to rekindle their relationship. He Qunfei, citing the recent passing of Lei Ting and Lei Yuzheng's disappearance, said he wasn't in the mood and tried to take her home, but she persisted in affirming her feelings. Du Xiaosu constantly checked Lei Yuzheng's social media and tried calling him, but he didn't answer.
She canceled all her appointments and went to the Lei residence to inquire about his whereabouts from Uncle Duan, who also had no information. Just then, Liu Siyang, recently released from prison, arrived at the Lei home looking for Lei Yuzheng. He also heard that Lei Yuzheng was missing. He introduced himself as Siyang, saying Lei Yuzheng called him that.
While Du Xiaosu searched, Lei Yuzheng had gone to a primary school where he was greeted warmly by the children, Mei and Doudou, who called him "Uncle Lei" and seemed to know him well, bringing them many presents. He was also involved in teaching them a game, and a teacher commented that it was hard for everyone, and every family faced difficulties.
