Song of the Moon Episode 9 Recap
> Song of the Moon Recap
To understand how the Brahma tree, which had been dead for ten thousand years, could bloom in just five days, Lu Li asked He Na to explain the tree's history and its demise. He Na revealed that their tribe, originally known as the Melody race, had planted the tree.
Ten thousand years ago, the Demon King disguised his dwelling as an immortal's residence and himself as a lake fairy to pursue Immortal Ze Shui, the sister of the God of the Moonlight. A demon and an immortal, they unexpectedly fell in love and together planted the Brahma tree.
Immortal Ze Shui often played the Bone-Corroding Harp beneath the tree, and under the irrigation of her affection and the blessing of her magic, the sapling sprouted in three days, grew into a tree in seven, and blossomed in ten. However, a love born of deception could not last. When Immortal Ze Shui discovered the truth, a dispute arose. She attempted to leave, but the Demon King sealed her immortal energy and imprisoned her, which ultimately led to her suicide.
Upon learning of her sister's tragic fate, the God of the Moonlight, in a fit of rage, cursed the Melody race, condemning them to be Aquatic Demons, dependent on water for life and destined to perish without it. The Brahma tree, devastated by this catastrophe, lost all its flowers and leaves, and completely withered. Lu Li, seemingly intoxicated by rouge wine, listened to the story.
While He Na went to fetch a hangover cure, Lu Li pulled Liu Shao close to the Brahma tree, expressing his deep affection. He declared his desire to "sell" himself to her for "one copper coin," and they shared an intimate embrace. Meanwhile, Bai Feng broke through the Psychedelic Amulet's restriction, attempting to interrogate Wang Jian about Lu Li's whereabouts but failed.
Instead, Du Mingchong confronted her, accusing her of colluding with Ao Hen due to her clothing fragments found near demon territory. Bai Feng feigned kindness and comfort, but secretly planted Ao Hen's Spirit Devouring Orb on Du Mingchong, intending to frame him later. Liu Shao and Lu Li woke up nestled together under the tree, greeted by a sky filled with Water Hyacinth petals. The Aquatic Demons swiftly arrived, reverently welcoming the "Tree Mother."
He Na understood that the Brahma tree's revival was a result of Lu Li and Liu Shao's profound love, and he felt a pang of disappointment. Liu Shao pressed Lu Li about the promises he made the previous night. Lu Li playfully pretended to have amnesia, but when Liu Shao grew upset and started to leave, he pulled her back and sincerely confessed his enduring feelings, reaffirming his "one copper coin" commitment.
Mr. Tai had successfully prepared the antidote using the Brahma tree's unique female flower. He Na personally escorted Liu Shao and Lu Li out of the demonic realm. Before they parted, He Na presented Liu Shao with a Water Hyacinth pendant, promising that he would appear whenever she called his name. Lu Li seemed a little jealous at this gesture, but Liu Shao happily accepted the pendant, unaware that its creation had significantly depleted He Na's spiritual power.
He Na chose not to inform her, believing that sometimes it is better not to expect anything in return. Marquis Wuyang had been poisoned for seven days and was nearing his end. Fang Zhan instructed Du Mingchong not to reveal the Marquis's impending death to avoid unforeseen complications. Du Mingchong, believing the position of Marquis Wuyang was within his grasp, was terrified when Wang Jian, disguised as the Marquis, appeared and confronted him.
Just as Du Mingchong prepared to silence Wang Jian and Xue, the real Marquis Wuyang entered, revealing that Lu Li and Liu Shao had returned with the antidote and persuaded him to feign death to expose the true culprit. The Marquis confronted Du Mingchong, revealing that the King Herb was not poisonous and that Du Mingchong had poisoned him and framed Lu Li and Liu Shao.
He also reminded Du Mingchong of the Qingfeng Sword he had once given him as a gift. Du Mingchong confessed that Bai Feng had instigated him, giving him the poison and colluding with the demon world. He admitted his resentment, stating that his father's death to save the Marquis meant the Marquis position should have been his. He also expressed disdain for Lu Li's unexpected rise. After dealing with Du Mingchong, Lu Li and Liu Shao confronted Bai Feng.
Liu Shao quickly defeated Bai Feng, who was no match for her. Despite Bai Feng's desperate plea for Lu Li to remember their past camaraderie, Lu Li expressed his profound disappointment and formally severed ties with her, stating she was no longer the senior he knew and that she still owed an explanation for her involvement in the Marquis's poisoning. Subsequently, Marquis Wuyang held a public inquiry for Du Mingchong and Bai Feng.
Bai Feng feigned weakness and devotion, attempting to make it appear as though she had been misguided by Du Mingchong. Du Mingchong, meanwhile, continued to deflect blame, and Ao Hen's Spirit Devouring Orb was discovered on him, which Bai Feng had secretly planted. Du Mingchong vehemently accused Bai Feng of colluding with Ao Hen, planning to take Lu Li and Liu Shao's lives, and instigating him to poison the Marquis, even claiming the Spirit Devouring Orb belonged to her.
The Marquis expressed his profound dismay, challenged Du Mingchong to a fight (which Du Mingchong cowardly declined), and ultimately abolished his cultivation and expelled him from the sect. Bai Feng was confined to Lingxi Yard for a month and demoted to an ordinary disciple, while Liu Shao was appointed the new chief disciple. With the truth unveiled, Marquis Wuyang reflected on his past.
His intense obsession with the King Herb stemmed from a fear of aging, sickness, and death, a longing for immortality. However, after his near-death experience, he finally understood that even with the King Herb, a mere decade of life in the mortal world was fleeting. He concluded that it was better to use the King Herb to offer hope to humanity.
He declared that if a disciple could draw the Moon Sword, the weapon of the God of the Moonlight, capable of splitting mountains and slaying demons, it would be a true blessing for all in the human world. He announced an ultimate trial for the following day, gathering all disciples before the Moon Stone to select his personal successor.
As a reward for retrieving the King Herb, Marquis Wuyang granted Lu Li and Liu Shao the opportunity to participate in this ultimate trial. Liu Shao was full of anticipation, expecting that after she pulled out the Moon Sword and defeated Ao Hen, Lu Li's master would come to her home to propose marriage. Lu Li, hearing this, felt a pang of sorrow, remembering the Soul-devouring Spell his master had placed within him, and feared their relationship might end prematurely.
To spare Liu Shao disappointment, however, he simply nodded in agreement. On the day of the ultimate trial, He Na sensed that Liu Shao was on the verge of pulling out the Moon Sword. Ah Fu observed his brother's continued concern for Liu Shao and revealed the treacherous secret of the Moon Stone illusion: if one takes a single wrong step within the illusion, they can never escape. He ominously questioned whether Liu Shao would be able to return from it.
