Hearing that Lu Chang was going to marry Lu Ruishan, Jian Mingshu grew anxious and frustrated. Lu Chang explained that the news outside was deliberately spread by Prince Rui to counter Lord Lu and shouldn't be taken seriously. He just hadn’t expected such a strong reaction from Jian Mingshu. Jian Mingshu didn’t want Lu Chang to regret marrying someone he shouldn’t for the rest of his life.

Lu Chang wiped the rain from her face with a towel and said that no one could force him to do something he didn’t want to do. Aunt Zeng asked about the current situation between Lu Chang and Jian Mingshu. She wasn't sure whether Jian Mingshu had feelings for Song Qingzhao or Lu Chang.

When Lu Chang once saw Jian Mingshu talking with Song Qingzhao, Yin Shujun said that Jian Mingshu had turned down Song Qingzhao, so the one she liked should be Lu Chang. Aunt Zeng was worried that if one day Jian Mingshu remembered the past and recalled being rejected by Lu Chang, she might become distant. Would Lu Chang accept that? Lu Chang knew he had been wrong back then, so he would do his best to treat her well.

Yin Shujun realized she had wrongly blamed Prince Rui and tried her best to make amends early that morning. She was always straightforward with her words, and her outburst had only been because of Jian Mingshu. Prince Rui, however, wasn’t angry at her. He was just surprised that the one Jian Mingshu liked turned out to be Lu Chang.

Although he wasn’t certain whether Lu Chang had romantic feelings for Jian Mingshu, he clearly cared a lot about her as a sister. The Prince Zhao Residence was holding a lantern festival that night. Lu Chang waited early outside Jian Mingshu’s room and invited her to go see the lanterns together. On the way, Jian Mingshu found it strange there weren’t other people around. Lu Chang said it was probably still too early.

Jian Mingshu excitedly guessed lantern riddles with Lu Chang, only to find they formed the message Lu Chang wanted to say: “I like you. ” Jian Mingshu pretended to be angry, saying he still had that Miss Jiang Lin on his mind. She wasn’t unable to guess who he meant—she just wanted Lu Chang to say it himself.

Lu Chang quickly confessed that the one he had never been able to let go of was no one else but her—Jian Mingshu. That night, they confessed their feelings to each other. The next morning, Aunt Zeng asked Lu Chang to go see if Jian Mingshu was still sleeping in. Jian Mingshu, hearing Lu Chang’s footsteps, pretended to be asleep, and the two were sweet as could be.

When Aunt Zeng called them for breakfast outside, Jian Mingshu hurriedly pushed Lu Chang out, saying not to let Aunt Zeng find out just yet. Seeing both of them with dark circles under their eyes, Aunt Zeng assumed they hadn’t slept well. Under the table, Lu Chang secretly held Jian Mingshu’s hand. Lu Chang walked Jian Mingshu to Hualang Pavilion and said he’d come to pick her up that evening.

Yin Shujun noticed something was different between them and eagerly pried into it. When she learned they had already confessed their feelings, she was happy for them. In the corner, Song Qingzhao looked deeply disappointed. Lu Chang was in such a good mood that he gave Yingxun a small knife he had long admired. Yin Shujun, the Princess of Wen’an, and Jian Mingshu celebrated together.

They heard Lu Wan’er had become a popular figure in the capital, skilled in navigating relationships and charming everyone she met. With such a daughter, Lord Lu looked more radiant than ever. Lord Lu knew that Lu Wan’er’s return at this time must be tied to one of the two major powers. But no matter which side it was, as long as she could be used, she was his good daughter.

With such a daughter, Lord Lu no longer rushed to join Prince Rui, nor was he in a hurry for the marriage with Lu Chang. Instead, he hoped Lu Wan’er would gain the emperor’s favor. Song Qingzhao came to Lu Chang’s study, accusing him of breaking his promise first. But since Jian Mingshu had chosen Lu Chang, he wouldn’t persist. However, if Lu Chang ever made Jian Mingshu unhappy, he would make sure Lu Chang regretted it.

Aunt Li fell seriously ill and passed away. Aunt Zeng and Wei Zhuo stayed by her bedside until the end. Late at night, Song Qingzhao got drunk and stumbled to find Jian Mingshu, asking her what he lacked compared to Lu Chang—why couldn’t he be the one? The Princess of Wen’an quickly took Song Qingzhao back. Wei Zhuo moved next door to the Top Scholar Residence and became Aunt Zeng’s neighbor.

Jian Mingshu felt Wei Zhuo had feelings for her and asked Lu Chang what he thought. The Lu family built a relief shelter to distribute porridge to the displaced people. Jian Mingshu believed that handing out porridge only solved a temporary problem—what really mattered was addressing the root causes. Song Qingzhao came to apologize for his drunken behavior that day. He didn’t want to lose Jian Mingshu as a friend.

Jian Mingshu had always regarded him as her most cherished friend. Yin Shujun and Prince Rui were discussing how to help the displaced, and Jian Mingshu thought of making small items to sell. Aunt Zeng and Wei Zhuo went out to buy groceries together. Prince Yu summoned Su Tangli and asked her opinion on Hualang Pavilion’s relief efforts. Su Tangli knew what needed to be done.

That night, Su Tangli instructed Qi to act, but told him to go easy and not make it too real. However, the task wasn’t carried out well, and when Su Tangli returned home, she was viciously beaten by Prince Yu.
