Serendipity Episode 27 Recap
> Serendipity Recap
Prince Yu was scratched by a branch while hunting. Su Tangli specifically used a cloth once used by his mother to dress his wound, which made Prince Yu recall his mother again. In a daze, he held Su Tangli's hand and pleaded for her to stay with him, but she refused on the grounds that he should focus on recovering.
Prince Yu asked her to promise never to leave his sight, but Su Tangli smiled and said, "Am I a caged bird? "Madam Lü said she had matters at home and requested leave. Madam Wei deliberately gave her some silver. All of the concubines of the late Wei Dushi died mysteriously. Madam Wei told Jian Mingshu that she had once been pregnant but inexplicably had a miscarriage.
Afterward, none of Wei Dushi’s concubines who got pregnant were able to keep the child, and even the women themselves died. Half a year ago, the newly taken Concubine Huang gave birth to a child, but when Madam Wei went to see it, she discovered the baby was deformed, and Wei Dushi went into a frenzy. Madam Wei knew that Wei Dushi had a hidden illness—every child he fathered was a monster—and he killed everyone to keep the secret.
Jian Mingshu and Song Qingzhao decided to start their investigation with the concubines. They first went to Concubine Huang’s home but found the shop empty in broad daylight. They asked around and learned that Huang Laosi made a living by selling his daughters, behaving worse than a beast. Jian Mingshu saw a familiar knotting style outside the shop, instantly recognizing it as the kind used by Madam Lü. This led her to suspect that Madam Lü was Concubine Huang’s mother.
Lu Chang also deduced the same and rushed over to investigate. At that moment, Madam Lü had tied Huang Laosi to a chair. Because he had sold his wife and daughters, Madam Lü hated him deeply, especially since he ignored the death of their daughter. Lu Chang, Jian Mingshu, and Song Qingzhao met at the door to Huang Laosi’s house and happened to witness Madam Lü killing him in public. In court, Madam Lü confessed that she killed Wei Dushi.
It had nothing to do with Jian Mingshu or Madam Wei. As for the dagger, she had not intended to frame Jian Mingshu but only wanted to buy a couple of days to avenge herself on Huang Laosi. She had planned to turn herself in anyway. Prefect Jia sentenced Madam Lü to death according to the law. She had already resolved to die and now only felt that everything was finally over.
However, Jian Mingshu and Lu Chang suspected someone had instructed Madam Lü and questioned her further. Out of guilt toward Jian Mingshu, Madam Lü told them the truth. After her daughter died, she thought Madam Wei was responsible and found a way into the Wei household, only to discover Madam Wei was also a pitiable victim, not the real culprit. Wei Dushi strictly controlled the inner residence, and Madam Lü found no leads.
At that point, a woman approached her, told her it was Wei Dushi who killed her daughter, and promised that if Madam Lü died after avenging her daughter, she and Concubine Huang would be buried together. While in prison, Su Tangli came to visit wearing a veil and promised to fulfill that burial promise. Jian Mingshu deliberately waited in the prison and was surprised to find it was indeed Su Tangli.
This was not the first time Su Tangli had used someone else’s hand to kill. But Su Tangli said no one in the world could truly understand Madam Lü’s pain, and Madam Lü herself hoped Jian Mingshu would not pursue it further. Su Tangli mocked Jian Mingshu for feeling nothing because she had no memories. Jian Mingshu took out the bracelet and asked if Su Tangli recognized it.
Thinking of Lu Chang, Su Tangli had no choice but to deny it. Jian Mingshu woke from a nightmare, afraid she might become like Madam Lü and Su Tangli in the end. Lu Chang also realized that the person behind Madam Lü was Su Tangli, but Su Tangli still believed there was no one besides Wei Dushi who killed her father and was determined to investigate at all costs.
To clear Madam Lü’s name, Lu Chang specially wrote a petition signed by the people. Jian Mingshu was deeply grateful to him. Sometimes she wondered—with such a brother, what did it matter if she didn’t know her background? But if she couldn’t uncover her identity, how could she respond to her feelings for Lu Chang?
The Emperor investigated the accounts of Hualang Pavilion and found that not only had they not exploited the people, they had also done many charitable deeds. He went to the Noble Consort’s residence full of praise. Upon returning to the residence, Prince Rui told Yin Shujun the news. Yin Shujun not only had Prince Rui’s belongings moved to her place but also personally embroidered a sachet for him.
Prince Rui had said before that if she had feelings, she could speak directly instead of relying on others to pass the message. Yin Shujun proactively wrapped her arms around his neck. After being married for some time, the two of them were finally in love and consummated their marriage. Prince Yu carefully prepared a confession of love for Su Tangli’s birthday. He even gave her a rabbit lantern and wished her a happy birthday. He wanted to take Su Tangli as his consort and have her change her name and start a clean, new life.
