Serendipity Episode 17 Recap
> Serendipity Recap
Liu Yuanying felt overwhelmed with emotions upon seeing that her younger brother was still alive. Young Master Zhang used his last breath to tell her that he had been saved by a family surnamed Zhang. Later, when he went to find Liu Yuanying, he was told that she was already at the Lu residence, and afterward, there was the incident at the Enyin Banquet. That’s why he infiltrated the academy—to avenge Liu Yuanying.
Before the siblings could say much, Young Master Zhang coughed up blood and died in prison. Devastated, Liu Yuanying nearly took her own life. Her brother had been her only family in the world—her father and brother were both gone, what reason did she have to live? Jian Mingshu quickly stopped her and persuaded her that she must live to avenge her father. Only then did Liu Yuanying give up the idea of suicide.
Jian Mingshu had many doubts and went to Su Tangli to seek answers. Every time Young Master Zhang tried to kill Lu Wencai, someone handed him the knife from behind—Xie Xu’s sleeve arrow and the falling plaque, all were pushed along by Su Tangli. Su Tangli’s face darkened and she immediately denied everything, even nearly revealing Jian Mingshu’s family extermination case.
Lu Chang quickly arrived to stop her, asking Jian Mingshu to leave first as he wanted to speak to Su Tangli alone. Su Tangli feigned a pitiful look, saying she had almost misspoken because of the false accusations. In fact, Lu Chang also suspected something from Jian Mingshu’s words. Even if Su Tangli hadn’t stained her hands with blood, her heart must be full of wounds. Prince Rui used Liu Yuanying’s plea in court to reverse Su Changhua’s case.
Prince Yu’s faction strongly opposed it. Prince Rui was upset and hadn't eaten all day. Yin Shujun personally went to comfort him. With all the veteran ministers impeaching Prince Rui, Yin Shujun advised that if they were so desperate, it meant Prince Rui’s plan was at a critical juncture. He just needed to keep pushing forward. Prince Rui suddenly saw things clearly and finally agreed to eat.
But when he asked Yin Shujun to stay and dine with him, she refused and left. Princess Wen'an was furious upon learning the truth and wanted to run to the streets to curse people. Jian Mingshu persuaded her to break off her engagement. Jian Mingshu offered a plan, and Princess Wen'an decided to go drinking with her and Yin Shujun.
Yin Shujun, at first unwilling to drink due to her status as a married woman, agreed when she heard Princess Wen'an wanted to confront Prince Rui. The three of them then formed a sworn sisterhood at Hualang Pavilion. That night, Prince Rui waited outside Hualang Pavilion early. When he saw Yin Shujun, Princess Wen'an, and Jian Mingshu stumbling out drunk, he quickly carried Yin Shujun in his arms and had her carriage send Jian Mingshu home.
In the carriage, Yin Shujun cursed Prince Rui, saying he didn’t understand a woman’s heart and only busied himself with politics—a pitiful man. But Prince Rui respected her greatly. If they could always remain courteous and undisturbing to each other, that would also be a good match. Prince Rui’s expression changed repeatedly, and finally, through gritted teeth, he said, “Don’t even think about it. ”Lu Chang picked up Jian Mingshu at the alley entrance and carried her home.
Jian Mingshu thought she was dreaming about the man in blue again and stubbornly wanted to see his face clearly. She was terrified this person might be Lu Chang because under no circumstances could she fall in love with her “brother. ” Aunt Zeng, seeing Jian Mingshu drunk, went out to get hangover soup but sensed she was being followed. Fortunately, Wei Zhuo helped her, and after three bows of thanks, she returned home. Lu Chang stayed by Jian Mingshu’s bedside.
She was once again dreaming of the man in blue. Lu Chang felt very conflicted. Those memories were extremely painful for Jian Mingshu. Sometimes he wished she would never remember them in this life, but sometimes he hoped she would regain her memory. Minister Lu investigated the identities of Lu Chang and Aunt Zeng and confirmed they were his long-lost wife and son. Back then, he had been busy with government affairs and thought they had perished in the flood.
The next day, Jian Mingshu sobered up and felt a bit awkward when she saw Lu Chang. Xie Xu was taken by his father to kneel in front of the Commandery Prince’s residence to repent. When Princess Wen'an appeared, she pitifully said she was willing to call off the engagement to fulfill Xie Xu and Su Tangli, which caused a wave of scolding. Marquis Yongqing pleaded with the emperor for mercy on Xie Xu.
The Commandery Prince was the first to oppose and demanded the engagement be annulled. Prince Rui did not plead on Marquis Yongqing’s behalf, which surprised Prince Yu. Xie Xu was demoted to commoner status and permanently barred from taking imperial exams. In a rage, he confronted Su Tangli, who had long since seen through his dirty thoughts. Things between them were completely fair. When Xie Xu tried to attack Su Tangli, the guards from Prince Yu’s residence stopped him.
