Nanny Liu informed Nie Sangyu that she should move back to the Rose Garden, but Nie Sangyu declined, stating she was comfortable where she was. She decided to rename the Reflection Pavilion to Feiwan Pavilion, explaining the name meant it was not too late to learn from past mistakes. Nie Sangyu also announced she would personally fund a banquet for the ladies of the capital, planning to sell her products there and keep the profits.

On the day of the banquet, no one arrived for a long time. The first guests to finally appear were her father, General Nie, her mother, and her sister, Nie Qingyun. Having lost her memory, Nie Sangyu didn't recognize them at first. Once she did, she greeted them enthusiastically and showered Nie Qingyun with compliments, shocking her sister.

Muxu later reminded Nie Sangyu that she used to be cruel to Qingyun, but Sangyu explained that her amnesia had changed her for the better. Mrs. Nie brought Sangyu unique items from the Northwest, but when Sangyu expressed interest in business opportunities, General Nie advised against it, citing the high transportation costs. Privately, General Nie questioned Nie Sangyu about her change in temperament, asking if Ning Yuxuan had mistreated her.

Nie Sangyu declared her intention to divorce Ning Yuxuan, listing his flaws: besides his handsome face, he had no virtues, ground his teeth, was a picky eater, and was overly rigid. She complained that he ignored her when she sought him out but secretly watched her when she ignored him. General Nie cut her off, stating that such private marital matters shouldn't be discussed, and made a hasty exit. With only her family present, the banquet commenced.

Nie Sangyu argued that Ning Yuxuan should pay, but he refused, citing a house rule that required expenses to be requested in advance. Frustrated at having spent a hundred taels for nothing, Nie Sangyu began drinking heavily, consuming five flagons of expensive osmanthus wine to "drink her money's worth." During the banquet, General Nie was deeply shaken when he noticed the jade pendant Nie Sangyu was wearing.

He recalled a past time when, struggling to raise two young daughters, he gave one child away to a man named Xiangyuan. As a token for a future reunion, he gave each sister a jade pendant, with the elder sister receiving the one with a right crescent moon. After the memory, he instructed a subordinate to go to his hometown, Luan County, and find a man named Ji Ming. Later that evening, a drunken Nie Sangyu sought out Ning Yuxuan.

She stumbled into his room, calling him her "Mr. Right" and attempting to embrace him. Wen Wan arrived outside to deliver something and overheard the commotion, clenching her jaw in anger. To manage the situation, Ning Yuxuan wrapped Nie Sangyu in a quilt and carried her back to her room. The next morning, Nie Sangyu woke up with a headache. Muxu happily recounted that Ning Yuxuan had carried her back after she had drunkenly pursued him.

Muxu encouraged her to keep trying to mend their relationship, but Nie Sangyu insisted she was only focused on making money and clearing her name. Muxu then revealed that Ning Yuxuan had, in fact, paid the hundred taels for the banquet from the Marquis's estate funds. While Muxu saw this as a sign of affection, Sangyu remained focused on her goals.

Meanwhile, Ling Jianxing learned that Ning Yuxuan had been injured by refugees at a ruined temple, not bandits as rumored. He saw an opportunity, noting that with Ning Yuxuan's harsh reputation for hunting bandits, he would become the prime suspect if the refugees were killed, especially since a Ministry of Justice official, Wang Mang, already disliked him.

When Nie Sangyu went out, she was accosted by a crowd repeating malicious rumors started by paid scholars, including a fabricated story about her killing and eating a horse. They refused to listen to her explanation and threw rotten vegetables at her. She returned to the mansion distressed and was seen by Ning Yuxuan. He told her not to be bothered by idle talk and promised to handle it.

The next day, the scholars who had been slandering her were all mysteriously mute. Separately, assassins arrived at the ruined temple to kill the refugees. Yuan Lang returned just in time to fight them off and save the survivors. He took them to Master Liao Ran for care and reported finding a Tea Gang mark on an assassin. Concerned that someone was misusing the gang's name, he vowed to investigate and purge the culprits.
