Psych-Hunter Episode 34 Recap
> Psych-Hunter Recap
Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng, inside Si's mind palace, discovered the "Hagakure Organization." The organization's motto, "Hidden by the Leaves. To die for honour. We're invincible," resonated through the space. Jiang Shuo noted the persimmon leaves on the mouths of four individuals, confirming their identities as Hagakure members.
The chief, unseen, congratulated these members on receiving their Hagakure tattoos, reminding them they were once humble civilians taken in and educated by their "lord," who harbored "a great ambition to conquer the world." He instructed them to abandon their past, learn local customs, and blend into society, swearing loyalty until the day of glory when they would become invincible warriors.
Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng understood that the Hagakure Organization was behind the mystery, and the persimmon leaf tattoos were their hidden mark. Realizing the killer of Mrs Wan (Yuan Shu Xuan) was more skilled, they suspected the chief and decided to follow the four members, including Si and Mr Tang, to uncover his identity. Inside the mind palace, Si was confronted by the chief after his daughter, Nan Nan, accidentally discovered their secrets.
The chief demanded Si kill her, citing the organization's rule that anyone who uncovers their secrets, including family, must be eliminated. Si, however, refused, declaring he was a traitor and had already shed enough innocent blood. He pleaded for his daughter's life, asking to leave the organization. The chief dismissed his pleas, questioning his attachment to life and his mission, and ordered his men to take Nan Nan, implying Si would be forced to face the chief.
Jiang Shuo noted that even Si didn't know the chief's true identity, and they decided to withdraw. Jiang Shuo then confronted Si, revealing his knowledge that Si was a Japanese Hagakure member, originally sent to China to spy. Si, however, had betrayed the organization to protect his family.
Jiang Shuo explained that the chief, who killed Mrs Wan (Yuan Shu Xuan), would also come for Si's wife and daughter, using Sakurako's hairpin, found at the murder scene, as proof that Sakurako was in the chief's custody. He appealed to Si, urging him to cooperate as it was his only chance to atone, promising to ensure his family's safety, eliminate the organization, and bring peace to the innocent. Convinced by Jiang Shuo's promise, Si confessed.
He confirmed they were all Japanese Hagakure members, led by the chief to conduct assassinations and, more recently, to map the local topography of Changshanzhou as a top-secret mission. Nan Nan, his daughter, had accidentally stumbled upon their map-drawing operation in its final stages. The organization intended to kill her, so Si, to protect her, stole the map and fled, becoming a fugitive.
Si admitted he didn't know the chief's identity or appearance, but he knew how to lure him out: the map itself was the bait. He revealed that the map was hidden inside a rattle drum and that if they rescued his family, he would disclose the numerical codes on it. Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng discovered the map detailed the Yin River, which Si claimed was crucial for the "Great Japanese Empire's victory."
Following Si's instructions, they proceeded to the Onsen House. They placed the rattle drum in Si's designated locker, number 261, and placed three Hagakure persimmon leaves on the door frame to signal the chief. While Jiang Shuo, Qin Yiheng, and the police waited at the Onsen House, trouble unfolded at the police station. Xiao Hei, a good friend of Mr Zhu and the only officer left, discovered Mr Zhu was a Japanese spy.
Moments later, Mr Wan rushed in, demanding to know who killed Yuan Shu Xuan. A junior officer, unaware of Mr Wan's true intentions, informed him that all other officers were out chasing a suspect. Mr Wan then brutally killed Xiao Hei, stating Xiao Hei should feel honored to be the only one to see his true face.
Before his death, Xiao Hei, in a final act of defiance, managed to secretly leave a clue: the character "Wan" was found in his mouth, while "Rong" was left on the chair where Si had been restrained. After waiting in vain at the Onsen House for two hours, Jiang Shuo initially believed Si wouldn't betray them by endangering his family.
However, Qin Yiheng had a sudden realization: Si, being a skilled fighter and openly defying the chief while caring for his family, should have insisted on joining them. He concluded that Si's plan was merely a ploy to distract and "send them away." Rushing back to the police station, they found Xiao Hei dead, his neck broken. Jiang Shuo noted that the killing method was not Si's, indicating the chief was the perpetrator. Si was nowhere to be found.
Jiang Shuo urged them to search for any clues Xiao Hei might have left. Qin Yiheng discovered the character "Wan" tucked inside Xiao Hei's mouth. Yuan Muqing immediately recognized it as a detail from her uncle's seal. On the chair where Si had been restrained, the character "Rong" was found. All evidence now undeniably pointed to Yuan Muqing's uncle, Wan Jinrong, as the Hagakure chief.
Jiang Shuo realized his earlier oversight, confirming Wan Jinrong's identity as a Japanese spy and the real culprit behind Mrs Wan's (Yuan Shu Xuan's) murder, with connections stretching to the docks and Mr Zhu. Yuan Muqing was devastated and refused to accept that her beloved uncle could have killed her aunt, who was such a kind and gentle soul.
Jiang Shuo, while understanding her grief, urged her to remain rational as a police officer and pursue the truth, not be swayed by emotion. Despite her initial disbelief and accusations of framing, the undeniable facts forced Yuan Muqing to confront the harsh reality. Still distraught, she finally informed Jiang Shuo that Wan Jinrong owned a match factory located in a cave in Nan Mountain, a detail Jiang Shuo suspected after recalling a cave in the mind palace used for training.
Chief Bai, enraged by Xiao Hei's death, wanted to get a warrant from General Yuan to search all of Wan Jinrong's known properties. However, Jiang Shuo, knowing Wan Jinrong would be in a more clandestine location, informed them he knew where to find him. At the match factory, Wan Jinrong held Sakurako and Nan Nan hostage. Si arrived and frantically called out to his family, but Wan Jinrong mocked him, demanding the map in exchange for their lives.
Si, though offering to lead Wan Jinrong to the map, refused to hand it over without his family's release first. A Hagakure member reported that the police had surrounded the mountain, leading Wan Jinrong to believe General Yuan was involved. Declaring the "lord's mission" at stake, he ordered a retreat, sending new recruits to hold off the police while his men tied up Si's family. Yuan Muqing directly confronted Wan Jinrong, demanding to know why he killed her aunt.
Wan Jinrong callously confessed, revealing his marriage to Yuan Shu Xuan was merely a strategic move to "better fulfil the lord's task," and that under the lord's grand scheme, the Yuan family were mere "nobodies." He admitted to killing her because she discovered his secret and followed him to the Onsen House. Enraged, Yuan Muqing attempted to shoot him, but he dodged, and she was injured.
Jiang Shuo intervened, sending her away for her safety and promising to avenge her aunt, cautioning that any impulsive action could harm the hostages. Wan Jinrong then displayed Sakurako and Nan Nan as hostages. Jiang Shuo offered himself in exchange for them. When Wan Jinrong dismissed Si as useless, Jiang Shuo pulled out the Yin River map. He threatened Wan Jinrong, declaring that if he didn't release the hostages, he would never see the map.
After a tense standoff, with Jiang Shuo counting down, Wan Jinrong relented, ordering his men to put down their weapons and releasing Sakurako and Nan Nan. As Wan Jinrong's men clashed with Jiang Shuo and the police, Qin Yiheng launched a surprise attack from another direction. In the ensuing chaos, Si seized the opportunity to escape with his wife and daughter. However, they were ambushed during their escape, and Si was fatally wounded.
In his dying moments, he recited the Hagakure motto, then apologized for the innocent lives he had taken, confessing he was no hero. Sakurako and Nan Nan desperately tried to save him, but Si died, having protected his family to his last breath. Wan Jinrong, having obtained the Yin River map, declared that with it, the location of Yin River was known, and the "Emperor's army" would be unbeatable.
He then made a cryptic reference, stating that "Mr Liu Zhi" had instructed him to spare Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng. As he made his escape in a car, Qin Yiheng was shocked to see his own father, Qin Yi, behind the wheel. Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng, both stunned, gave chase. Meanwhile, at Yuan Mansion, a heartbroken Yuan Muqing mourned her aunt in the garden, recalling their precious memories and vowing vengeance against Wan Jinrong.
General Yuan, her father, furiously gathered his officers, ordering the relentless pursuit and capture of Wan Jinrong and Qin Yi, "dead or alive," promising promotions for their apprehension. He also instructed Lieutenant Yang to ensure Yuan Muqing's safety and to inform Chief Bai to arrest Jiang Shuo, regardless of any potential connection to Liu Zhi.
Later, the wanted Jiang Shuo risked capture to appear before Yuan Muqing in the garden, presenting her with a kite he had personally drawn, featuring them both. He reassured her that he had checked the area for her father's men. After some lighthearted teasing about his artistic skills, Yuan Muqing urged him to leave for his safety.
Jiang Shuo then reiterated his promise to protect her and, after he apprehended Liu Zhi, would return to fulfill his vow to marry her. This brought a smile to Yuan Muqing's face. Subsequently, Qin Yiheng was summoned to General Yuan. General Yuan, consumed by grief and anger over his sister's death, accused the Qin family of a grand conspiracy and demanded to know Qin Yi's whereabouts.
Qin Yiheng maintained his ignorance, stating he had been searching for his father since his escape from the hospital and had long been estranged from his brother, Qin Yi Chi. General Yuan dismissed his claims, declaring he would no longer be fooled, especially given that Qin Yi, according to him, was Liu Zhi and had colluded with Wan Jinrong to kill his sister. He ordered Lieutenant Yang to "mete out punishment" to Qin Yiheng.
Just as the order was to be carried out, Jiang Shuo dramatically appeared, stopping them. He declared he was the one General Yuan was looking for, asserting Qin Yiheng's innocence, and offered to surrender himself.
