Ding Xian increasingly questioned whether repeating was the right choice. Seeing older students still not make it after years of trying, she lost confidence. The person she wanted to follow was just too outstanding, and no matter how hard she tried, she felt she couldn’t catch up. She also worried people would suspect Zhou Siyue’s motives for being with her. Su Baicong comforted her, saying persistence was success and not to care about the result.

Zhou Siyue, who was behind them, overheard it all and quietly walked away. That night, Ding Xian messaged Zhou Siyue, saying she missed him. Zhou Siyue was standing downstairs looking at her window, but he didn’t disturb her. He knew she had always been trying so hard to keep up with him, and he didn’t want to make her more tired.

A student named Dong Zhengfei went to Professor Ye to recommend a website he designed, but the professor ignored him and went straight to find Zhou Siyue, asking him to manage the lab work. He also inquired about Zhou Siyue’s father’s plagiarism case. Dong Zhengfei felt deeply resentful and wanted revenge regarding Zhou Siyue’s father. Just then, Zhou Siyue received a message from Ding Xian but didn’t reply.

While Zhou Siyue was giving a university speech, many girls took an interest in him. One girl, Xing Lufei, approached him, wanting to start a relationship, but he showed little interest. A reporter came to the lab, and Xing Lufei followed Zhou Siyue there. When Zhou Siyue opened his computer, he saw that a website had posted an article accusing his father of academic fraud.

Many students were shocked — so Zhou Siyue’s father was the plagiarist professor, and Zhou Siyue only got into the school through his father’s connections. Skilled with computers, Zhou Siyue traced the article’s source and sent a message through the site’s backend, which landed in Dong Zhengfei’s inbox. Zhou Siyue confronted him, but Dong Zhengfei showed no remorse and even insulted Zhou Siyue, telling him not to follow in his father’s crooked path. Furious, Zhou Siyue punched him.

In the scuffle, Xing Lufei twisted her ankle, so Zhou Siyue had to take her to the infirmary. On the way, Ding Xian, who came to see Zhou Siyue, saw him helping Xing Lufei and felt heartbroken. On the way back, she cried all the way. Holding back her sadness, Ding Xian messaged Zhou Siyue telling him not to contact her anymore — she would focus on repeating the year.

Zhou Siyue got a demerit for the fight, while Ding Xian missed him dearly. The date predicted by the Mayan apocalypse was approaching. A radio host spoke about whether people would spend the end with their loved ones. Fireworks lit up the plaza, and Ding Xian couldn’t hold back her feelings anymore. She ran out to look for Zhou Siyue but only found the firework tube.

However, Zhou Siyue had left her a seal stamp, which inspired Ding Xian to work even harder to get into Huaqing and be with him. Since Zhou Siyue was not very social, several of his research group members defected to Dong Zhengfei’s team. But he didn’t mind. When school started, Ding Xian got into Huaqing. However, she no longer had Zhou Siyue’s contact information.

Zhou Siyue’s team members offered to help her out, but she declined and went straight to the boys' dorm with her luggage to find him. She was stopped by the dorm supervisor, so she shouted up to Zhou Siyue from outside, attracting a crowd. Zhou Siyue heard and rushed out to take her away. Ding Xian directly told him that she had held it in long enough and just wanted to say she liked him.

But Zhou Siyue acted indifferent, saying they each had their own lives now and shouldn’t disturb each other. Ding Xian handed him the robot he had given her, and Zhou Siyue walked away without hesitation, crushing her hope. It turned out Zhou Siyue’s father had fallen ill — he got the call while setting off fireworks for Ding Xian in the plaza.

After that, Zhou Siyue changed, feeling he didn’t even have the ability to protect his own family, let alone Ding Xian. Back at the dorm, the other girls knew about Ding Xian’s pursuit of Zhou Siyue and told her the next day was his robotics competition. So they decided to go watch it together. After returning home, Zhou Siyue opened Ding Xian’s robot, which contained an account.

On his computer, he logged into the account and found her diary — full of memories about their time together — bringing tears to his eyes. Zhou Siyue visited his father in the hospital. His mother told him to focus on his studies and not to delay plans for studying abroad. She also reminded him to take care of himself. Because of his father’s health, Zhou Siyue had been working part-time, and his mother told him not to overwork.

Ding Xian went to the robotics competition award ceremony looking for Zhou Siyue, but he didn’t win — Dong Zhengfei did. Zhou Siyue’s teammates were upset and left with him. Ding Xian couldn’t find him, so she introduced herself to Dong Zhengfei and asked him to help locate Zhou Siyue, but he refused.
