Only Side by Side with You Episode 37 Recap
> Only Side by Side with You Recap
Nan Qiao was sketching designs for a new unmanned aircraft, an ambitious project she had always dreamed of creating, envisioning it as a future smart air transportation vehicle. Shi Yue teased her, pretending to be blinded by her scientific creativity. Nan Qiao's design featured eight propellers, four machine arms, and a single passenger, a concept she called the "184" system.
Shi Yue expressed concerns about practicalities like parking and air traffic, but Nan Qiao explained her plans for vertical takeoff and landing, U-shaped flight routes, and a foldable design to save space, believing drones should be a way of life, an airborne ecosystem encompassing communications, travel, logistics, and medical treatments. Shi Yue mused that their brains were structured differently, with hers focused on knowledge and technology, and his on dates.
He commented that Nan Qiao’s boyfriend was exceptional at flying, a thought that helped Nan Qiao realize a crucial point: the core of her unmanned aircraft would be its autopilot. She aimed for a future where her 184 system would be as common as a car, allowing anyone to be a pilot.
Shi Yue worried about their future child feeling stressed by such a technologically advanced mother, while Nan Qiao believed their child would be perfect, inheriting her intelligence and Shi Yue's good looks. At Instant Flight, Wen Di excitedly announced that the Hunter project had garnered government support and investment. Her colleagues celebrated, and Chang Jianxiong, misunderstanding Wen Di's earlier attempts to ask him out, eagerly announced a day off for all employees, effectively taking it as an opportunity to escape.
He then quickly left the company. Feeling both angry and disheartened, Wen Di's colleagues encouraged her to be more direct with Chang Jianxiong, acknowledging his difficulty in understanding subtle hints. Wen Di, exasperated, declared that a woman's greatest enemy was not aging or fading beauty, but a "straight man brain." Later, Nan Qiao rushed to meet Wen Di and Ouyang Qi after a phone call.
Nan Qiao playfully asked what was wrong, and Ouyang Qi revealed that Wen Di had fallen for Chang Jianxiong, an "unsuitable" person. Ouyang Qi noted the irony, as Chang Jianxiong's traits that Nan Qiao disliked had become "special superior traits" in Wen Di's eyes. Wen Di lamented that despite her hints being 90% clear, Chang Jianxiong remained completely oblivious. She then formally asked Nan Qiao if she should pursue him.
Nan Qiao smiled, saying Chang Jianxiong wasn't hers and Wen Di only needed to consult her own heart, encouraging her to be bold. With her own important plans for the evening, Nan Qiao quickly excused herself, while Ouyang Qi was also eager to leave for a road trip with Hao Jie. Wen Di teased them about their "excessive showing off of their love." Meanwhile, Chang Jianxiong met Shi Yue.
When Shi Yue suggested inviting Nan Qiao and Wen Di, Chang Jianxiong revealed he had pushed away Wen Di's date invitation to meet Shi Yue, complaining about her "troublesome" and "weird" requests, like teaching her to ride a motorbike or a Segway. Shi Yue, realizing Wen Di's intentions, called Chang Jianxiong "stupid" for not sensing her attempts to create physical contact. He wondered why a "skillful and mature woman" like Wen Di would fall for Chang Jianxiong.
As Nan Qiao sent Shi Yue a message, he abruptly left, leaving Chang Jianxiong to ponder about Wen Di alone. That night, Shi Yue serenaded Nan Qiao at Lucid Dream bar, playing his guitar and reflecting on their journey together. Nan Qiao expressed her gratitude, regretting not being part of his past but promising to be in his future. She presented him with a new wristband, asking him never to take it off, symbolizing their renewed commitment.
The bar was decorated for Shi Yue's birthday. Chang Jianxiong and Wen Di soon arrived with a cake. Chang Jianxiong playfully tried to recount a story about Shi Yue and a female instructor during their training camp, but Shi Yue quickly smeared cake on his face to silence him, and the four happily continued their playful banter. Elsewhere, Chang's father and Nan Qiao's father met at a tea house.
Nan Qiao's father expressed his melancholy about dwindling old comrades at veteran reunions, reflecting on his deceased son Nan Si and stating that being alive was the most luxurious thing. Chang's father chided him for lamenting like a "complaining wife" and reminded him to maintain a "senior officer's demeanor." Nan Qiao's father, however, confessed that in his children's eyes, he was only an "incompetent father."
After some personal conversation, Nan Qiao's father, curious about the younger generation's nightlife, agreed to Chang's father's suggestion to visit the city's most famous club. As the two elderly men arrived at Lucid Dream, they spotted Nan Qiao and her friends leaving. Chang's father immediately took a liking to Wen Di, who was with his son.
Nan Qiao's father, however, was focused on the man next to Nan Qiao, Shi Yue, and decided he needed to investigate "which bastard dared to go after his daughter." Wen Di, clearly intoxicated, clung to Chang Jianxiong, claiming she couldn't walk. Chang Jianxiong, despite her protests, hoisted her onto his shoulder to carry her home. The next morning, Shi Yue had prepared a delicious meal for Nan Qiao.
Their sweet moment was interrupted when Nan Qiao's father, accompanied by Nan Qin's son Zheng Hao, unexpectedly knocked on the door. Shi Yue attempted to hide behind a table but was quickly discovered by Nan Qiao's father. Shi Yue awkwardly greeted him. Nan Qiao's father confronted Shi Yue, questioning why an employee from a rival company was in his daughter's home.
Nan Qiao quickly fabricated a story, claiming Shi Yue was an "undercover agent" she had sent to the rival company. Shi Yue also added that he was there to ask Nan Qiao to help care for his three dogs. Nan Qiao's father, noting Shi Yue's "aura of a man of the house," decided to take the dogs himself, stating his house was larger and more suitable, and he would care for them for a few days.
After Nan Qiao's father left with the dogs, Shi Yue commented that he seemed easy to get along with. However, Nan Qiao's father, unknown to them, considered the dogs as "hostages" to ensure he got truthful information from Nan Qiao later. At Instant Flight, Xiao An complained to Wen Di for not informing her about Shi Yue's birthday.
Wen Di jokingly said Shi Yue was "taken," but Xiao An retorted, asking if everyone else at Lucid Dream, including Chang Jianxiong, was also taken. Wen Di erupted in frustration, declaring that if Chang Jianxiong "could date, a sow could climb a tree," criticizing him as "muscle-brained" and "cowardly" for missing such a perfect opportunity the previous night. Coincidentally, Chang's father arrived at Instant Flight and overheard Wen Di's rant. He approached her, revealing his identity.
A mortified Wen Di quickly explained that she spoke that way because she genuinely liked Chang Jianxiong. Chang's father, far from being upset, encouraged her not to be nervous, affirmed he was on her side, and offered to be her "inside man." Wen Di excitedly shared the news with Nan Qiao over the phone, thrilled about her new "good helper." Nan Qiao, however, remained concerned about her father, who had taken Shi Yue's dogs and gone incommunicado. Wen Di lightheartedly concluded that she had everything she needed for love, except Chang Jianxiong, while Nan Qiao had love but still longed for a "good father."
