Always on the Move Episode 5 Recap
> Always on the Move Recap
Ma Kui immediately exposed Hou Sanjin's pretense of a broken leg, causing Hou Sanjin to become visibly scared and eager to leave. Ma Kui didn't stop him but quietly followed. Hou Sanjin went straight to the railway tracks near the station, searching for the watch. He had stolen the watch from Tang Xingguo earlier and tried to escape. Ma Kui had noticed his nervous demeanor and pursued him relentlessly.
In his desperation, Hou Sanjin had thrown the watch into a toilet, and Ma Kui hadn't found it during their previous encounter. Hou Sanjin searched carefully along the railway tracks based on his memory, still unable to locate the watch. Ma Kui stepped forward and identified him. Terrified, Hou Sanjin took off running again. Ma Kui chased him vigorously but eventually stumbled and fell due to exhaustion. Hou Sanjin stopped and began taunting Ma Kui from a distance.
Just then, Wang Xin arrived and managed to apprehend Hou Sanjin. Ma Kui continued searching along the tracks. Wang Xin spotted the watch tucked away in a narrow gap. As he prepared to pick it up, Ma Kui called out sternly, stopping him. Ma Kui used a glove to retrieve the watch, stating that they needed to take it back to lift fingerprints. Caught red-handed, Hou Sanjin was stunned.
That night, Ma Kui and Wang Xin went to Tang Xingguo's home. They initially told him they hadn't found the watch, which visibly disappointed Tang Xingguo. However, Ma Kui then produced the watch and handed it back. Tang Xingguo was overcome with emotion. His fiancée, the nurse from the train, was overjoyed and immediately put the watch on her wrist, admiring it and showing it to his grandmother.
Seeing the couple's happiness and relief, Ma Kui and Wang Xin quietly excused themselves and left, declining their offer to stay for a meal. Upon arriving at Haihe Station, Yuxia's fiancé saw her off the train. They shared a heartfelt farewell. He had purchased a standing ticket but wanted to keep the seat he was using, so he left his bag on it before stepping off.
When he returned to the carriage as the train was about to depart, he discovered someone else had taken his seat. He explained that he had just stepped off to see someone off and had left his bag, but the other passenger refused to move and became argumentative, insisting the seat belonged to whoever was sitting there since it was unreserved seating. Their dispute escalated until Ma Kui arrived to mediate.
With just a few words, Ma Kui calmly explained the situation and convinced the passenger to yield the seat. With the college entrance exam approaching, Ma Yan received her admission ticket. Ma Kui tried to encourage her, but Ma Yan felt her abilities were lacking and thought being a saleswoman was perfectly fine.
Wang Sufang, Ma Yan's mother, also spoke up for her daughter, explaining that Ma Yan's studies had been hindered by her own chronic illness, which required Ma Yan to take on household chores early and frequently miss school, particularly in junior high. Ma Yan, seeing her parents' concern, reluctantly agreed to try studying for the exam one last time. Yao Yuling's radio broke down, and she asked Wang Xin for help fixing it.
As Wang Xin went to her place to collect the radio, Niu Dali was lurking downstairs, keeping a close watch on Yao Yuling's building. When Wang Xin came down carrying the radio, Niu Dali immediately took it from him, insisting he could fix it. A few days later, Niu Dali delivered the repaired radio to Yao Yuling himself.
Yao Yuling, who had hoped the broken radio would provide an opportunity to get closer to Wang Xin, was disappointed that Niu Dali had intervened. She took the radio from him and quickly dismissed him. Cai Xiaonian wore his new railway uniform for the first time, and passengers expressed their approval of the design. Yao Yuling walked through the carriage modeling her new uniform, attracting much attention as she had altered it to be very tight.
Conductor Lu Hongxing immediately noticed and sternly reprimanded her, reminding her that railway uniforms are not to be altered casually. Yao Yuling tried to defend herself, claiming she only made minor adjustments because she had lost weight, but Conductor Lu was firm. Wang Xin attempted to speak up for Yao Yuling, but Ma Kui supported Conductor Lu, reiterating that uniforms cannot be changed arbitrarily.
Conductor Lu told Yao Yuling she must get the uniform fixed back to its original size immediately, warning that her actions could affect the entire crew's chance of being recognized as a civilized train. Pressed for who did the alteration, Yao Yuling revealed it was Mrs. Lu, Conductor Lu's wife. Upon hearing this, Conductor Lu went home and severely scolded Mrs. Lu for altering uniforms for railway staff.
He locked the sewing machine and forbade her from using it for a month, emphasizing the potential consequences for his job if word got out. Yao Yuling later went back to Mrs. Lu, hoping she could alter the uniform back, but found the sewing machine locked and Mrs. Lu unable to help.
Desperate, Yao Yuling sought out a tailor, who told her that altering it back would be difficult, especially since she had thrown away the cut fabric, and advised her to find matching fabric from a state-owned store. Yao Yuling first asked Niu Dali for cloth coupons, but he had already sent his to his mother. She then asked Wang Xin, but his coupons were expired. Wang Xin suggested they ask Ma Yan, who worked at the state-owned store.
Wang Xin took Yao Yuling to the store to see Ma Yan. Ma Yan initially explained she couldn't sell fabric without a valid coupon, as state-owned stores didn't allow credit. However, after Yao Yuling's pleas, Ma Yan agreed to treat it as a loan, reminding her to return the coupon later.
Having learned that Wang Xin had helped Yao Yuling get the fabric, a disappointed Niu Dali bought expensive cloth coupons and went to see her, but it was too late. Dejected, he later drank heavily with Wang Xin and Cai Xiaonian. While drunk, Niu Dali confessed his strong feelings for Yao Yuling and directly asked Wang Xin not to pursue her, declaring that he would marry only her.
Wang Xin tried to gently advise him that they might not be compatible and that chasing someone who isn't interested wasn't a good idea, but Niu Dali refused to listen to his advice. Later, Wang Xin visited Ma Yan's house, ostensibly to return the cloth coupon. While he was chatting with Ma Yan, Wang Sufang immediately started preparing to make dumplings for him. Ma Kui, seemingly annoyed by Wang Xin's presence, began chopping meat and kneading dough loudly.
Despite Ma Kui's efforts to make him uncomfortable, Wang Xin remained unfazed. Eventually, they all gathered to eat the dumplings together, and Wang Xin complimented the food and Ma Kui's skill. The meal proceeded cordially.
