Always on the Move Episode 27 Recap
> Always on the Move Recap
After a trip to Hacheng to meet with Jia Jinlong, Yao Yuling wrote him several letters, but he didn't reply. Feeling slighted, she decided to date Niu Dali. Jia Jinlong eventually visited, explaining his lack of replies was due to being busy with business and fearing their relationship would be discovered by Ma Kui and Wang Xin, especially since he was taking her from Niu Dali, which could lead to gossip.
He asked for more time and promised to take her to Hacheng once his business was settled, assuring her he would treat her better than Niu Dali. To win her over, he suggested they go out to eat and he would buy her some nice clothes. Meanwhile, Wang Xin and Ma Kui were occupied with the ongoing severed limbs case in Songlin when they received news from Yuzhou police about a murder.
The victim was Liu Lan, a 26-year-old woman who died from bleeding caused by a sharp weapon. They traveled to Yuzhou and visited the crime scene with local officers. They observed that the victim's hand was clenched with the pinkie extended, a gesture identical to the severed arm found in the Songlin case. Ma Kui and Wang Xin concluded the killer was the same person and was deliberately leaving this signature as a provocation and mockery.
They noted the killer's calm demeanor, evidenced by the smell of alcohol at the scene despite no bottles being found, and advanced anti-detection skills, suggesting professional training or prior experience with law enforcement. They recognized that the killer was now operating across locations, making the case increasingly complex. Declining an offer for a meal due to their duties, they agreed to keep in touch and left Yuzhou.
Following her renewed connection with Jia Jinlong, Yao Yuling's attitude towards Niu Dali changed dramatically. Niu Dali, hoping to marry her, became confused and hurt by her distance. He confronted her, asking why she was ignoring him and when they would tailor their wedding clothes now that she seemed better. She told him she preferred being single and wanted to break up, clearly stating they were just colleagues.
Despite his pleas and willingness to wait, she insisted he find someone else, saying she didn't want to hold him back. He maintained that his feelings were his own business and her delaying him was his choice, leaving her with nothing more to say except that their relationship was simply "Comrades." Devastated by her rejection, Niu Dali attempted suicide by drinking poison but was found and saved by neighbors. When Yao Yuling heard what happened, she visited him.
Initially seeming annoyed by his actions and the potential blame she would face, she ultimately tried to persuade him to accept their breakup gently. He, however, quietly accepted her decision, saying he would listen to her, which seemed to catch her off guard after his drastic act. Later, Wu Changgui, Cai Xiaonian, Lu Hongxing, and Wang Yongge confronted Yao Yuling, blaming her for Niu Dali's state and demanding she take responsibility for breaking her promise to him.
Wu Changgui threatened her, stating he wouldn't let her off if anything happened to Niu Dali. Feeling bullied and cornered, Yao Yuling broke down in tears, accusing them of ganging up on her. The others softened their approach, acknowledging it wasn't entirely her fault but stressing she should comfort Niu Dali. Despite their attempts to dissuade him, Niu Dali decided to quit his job at the railway and pursue a business venture.
His colleagues, including Wu Changgui and Cai Xiaonian, argued against the decision, pointing out his stable future as a deputy driver and calling his plan impulsive and potentially a way to escape his feelings about Yao Yuling. Cai Xiaonian warned him that leaving the railway meant he couldn't return. Niu Dali, however, had made up his mind, determined to forge his own path while he was still young.
That night, as snow fell heavily, Niu Dali stood in the courtyard, gazing at Yao Yuling's window, reminiscing about their life in the community. He made a heartfelt vow to return a wealthy man and marry her. Ma Kui found him there, frozen, and offered him counsel. Ma Kui observed that Yao Yuling was not suitable for him, or he wouldn't be so unhappy.
He advised Niu Dali against fixating on her, encouraging him to look beyond their community for a suitable partner, given his steady job and good character. Accepting Ma Kui's advice, Niu Dali decided to go inside. The following morning, he left the community, boarding a southbound train with his luggage. Back on the train, Ma Kui and Wang Xin continued their patrol duties. During their shift, chaos erupted as a young thief, identified as Ruo, was caught stealing.
A chase ensued. As Ma Kui attempted to apprehend Ruo, the thief used a blade to slash Ma Kui's hand. Wang Xin quickly intervened, tackling Ruo, who then bit Wang Xin's hand before being restrained. Railroad officers arrived and took Ruo into custody. Upon returning to the police station, Ma Kui and Wang Xin were met with a tense atmosphere. Captain Jiang and other officers appeared somber, and doctors from the infectious disease department were present, disinfecting the area.
The doctors informed Ma Kui and Wang Xin that the thief, Ruo, had HIV, and their injuries posed a risk of infection, requiring immediate mandatory quarantine. Shocked, they were taken to a hospital room and placed in isolation, finding themselves sharing the space with Ruo. News of their situation spread, and community members, including Wang Yongge, Cai Xiaonian, and Cai Dalian, visited the hospital to offer support.
They tried to reassure the officers and ease their anxiety, informing Ma Kui that Ma Jian was being well cared for by neighbors. Wang Yongge attempted to question Ruo about how he contracted the disease, but Ruo responded defiantly, threatening that they would all die together. The others urged Wang Xin and Ma Kui not to lose hope, emphasizing that the disease wasn't easily transmitted and they should trust the medical professionals.
Ma Yan soon arrived at the hospital, visibly distressed upon seeing her father and Wang Xin isolated. Wang Xin tried to comfort her, assuring her he felt fine so far. Ma Kui also attempted to reassure her, telling her not to worry too much and entrusting the care of Ma Jian to her, which brought her to tears. She promised to look after her brother, and Ma Kui acknowledged her as his daughter before telling her to go home.
Left alone with Ruo, Wang Xin became agitated, demanding to know how Ruo got HIV. Ruo remained defiant and threatening, prompting Ma Kui to intervene and stop Wang Xin from escalating the confrontation. Ma Kui then calmly spoke to Ruo, learning his name and that he believed he was infected after being bitten by someone who had the disease. Ma Kui questioned why Ruo had bitten Wang Xin, but Ruo didn't respond directly.
Later, a nurse brought Ma Kui needle and thread to mend Ruo's torn clothes. The nurse also updated them that their blood samples had been sent to Beijing for testing and that experts there wanted to conduct a comprehensive examination, meaning they would be transferred to Beijing soon. Wang Xin grew increasingly anxious about the seriousness of the situation, wondering if they were truly infected.
He expressed his worries about potentially dying before fulfilling his life goals, such as marrying, having children, and being filial to his father. He questioned why Ma Kui was being kind to Ruo, considering he was a thief who had potentially infected them. Ma Kui explained his sympathy, noting Ruo's difficult life as an orphan who likely suffered greatly, suggesting that perhaps this period of being cared for was the best he had ever known.
