My Huckleberry Friends Episode 4 Recap
> My Huckleberry Friends Recap
Mi Qiao, Yu Zhouzhou, and Zheng Yanyi, clad in disguises, set up a stall outside the TV station, selling "Real fruit grains, new blueberry flavor" and "’Blue’friends love flavor" yogurt to raise funds for their Anime Club. Yu Zhouzhou and Zheng Yanyi felt self-conscious, but Mi Qiao, wearing a wig, assured them no one would recognize them. Their nerves were tested when their teacher, Wu Wenlu, appeared. They quickly turned away, hoping to avoid detection.
Fortunately, Mr. Wu didn't seem to notice them. Curious, the three coincidentally discovered he was recording a "History Forum" program at the TV station, specifically discussing the "story of Chen Sheng" and the "Dazexiang Uprising." During his initial trial lecture, Mr. Wu appeared nervous but soon found his rhythm and confidence. Back in class, Mi Qiao excitedly showed her classmates Mr. Wu's "History Forum" episode on her phone. Engrossed in the video, they didn't notice Director Pan's sudden entry.
In a panic, Mi Qiao shoved the phone into Xin Rui's hand. Xin Rui, intimidated by Director Pan’s stern questioning, accidentally dropped the phone, revealing the program. Director Pan was furious, accusing Mr. Wu of neglecting his teaching duties for his TV appearances, citing his recent absences and class transfers.
He then reprimanded Mr. Wu in his office, claiming Mr. Wu was no longer fit to be a head teacher and would be replaced by Ms. Zhang, who teaches Chinese, with Mr. Wu remaining only as a subject teacher. Director Pan also brought up the poor English test scores of Class 3, particularly those of Xu Zhiqiang and Xin Rui, suggesting they be sent back to the Hongzhi class.
Mr. Wu, who had been a head teacher for twenty-three years and cared deeply for his students, was enraged by these decisions. Mi Qiao confronted Xin Rui, accusing her of being disloyal. Xin Rui, from the Hongzhi class, explained that many students from her class were sent back, and she couldn't afford to make any mistakes. During an English class, both Xin Rui and Xu Zhiqiang were singled out for their poor English.
Director Pan’s intention to send them back to the Hongzhi class made their situation even more precarious. Later, while enjoying a "Handheld Pancake," Mi Qiao met Chu Tiankuo, the newly elected student council president, to discuss the Anime Club's activity venue. Chu Tiankuo explained that the student council's recent changes and school leadership's opposition made immediate approval difficult, promising a classroom in two months.
He also revealed that their previous club space, a warehouse, was now allocated for English tutoring for Hongzhi class students. Casually, Chu Tiankuo advised Mi Qiao to stop eating "unclean street snacks," as the school was implementing personal hygiene checks. Xu Zhiqiang, who was nearby, overheard this and immediately confronted Chu Tiankuo, shouting, "You're the cleanest, you're a young master, right?" and a fight broke out between them.
Mr. Wu later questioned Xu Zhiqiang about the altercation, but Xu Zhiqiang remained defiant, stating, "I'm not from this school anyway," implying he was aware of his impending transfer. Meanwhile, Chen Yao confronted Xin Rui about a broken cassette tape. Yu Zhouzhou stepped in, claiming she was present when the tape broke on its own. Mi Qiao then offered to buy a replacement, stating that a "cut-out tape store" had an identical copy. Ling Xiangqian also defended Xin Rui.
Chen Yao, frustrated, remarked, "Too many troubles had occurred ever since they transferred here from Hongzhi." Mr. Wu intervened, telling everyone to return to their seats. After school, Yu Zhouzhou and Mi Qiao discussed Xin Rui. Yu Zhouzhou confessed that seeing Xin Rui reminded her of her own childhood struggles, which made her want to help. Mi Qiao pressed for more details, but Yu Zhouzhou was reluctant to elaborate.
As they walked, they saw Xu Zhiqiang helping his mother pack up her pancake stand. This discovery illuminated Xu Zhiqiang's earlier fight with Chu Tiankuo. Yu Zhouzhou stopped Mi Qiao from approaching, sensing Xu Zhiqiang's desire to keep his family's situation private. However, Mi Qiao later went to the pancake stand, pretending to stumble upon Xu Zhiqiang and his mother.
She helped Xu Zhiqiang's mother pack up, listening as the proud mother spoke of her son's supposed excellent grades and dedication, unaware of his actual academic difficulties. Mi Qiao was deeply moved by the mother's hopes for her son. At the same time, Xin Rui waited downstairs for Yu Zhouzhou to thank her for her help. Xin Rui revealed she had been bullied her whole life and Yu Zhouzhou was the first person to truly be kind to her.
Seeing Xin Rui's immense stress, Yu Zhouzhou shared her unique stress-relief method: pushing over a row of bicycles and then setting them upright, symbolizing the ability to "start all over again" after a setback. Xin Rui, initially hesitant, tried it and found it surprisingly effective, feeling a sense of catharsis. Wu Wenlu met Director Pan for dinner, having prepared his letter of resignation from teaching to pursue the popular "History Forum" full-time.
However, he still passionately pleaded for Xin Rui and Xu Zhiqiang, reminding Director Pan of their own difficult beginnings as young teachers at Zhen Hua, when they too felt looked down upon. Director Pan, touched by the memory and their long friendship, agreed to give Xin Rui and Xu Zhiqiang one last chance, with their fate hinging on their upcoming English exam scores.
In the following days, Mr. Wu, Yu Zhouzhou, and Mi Qiao diligently tutored Xin Rui and Xu Zhiqiang in English. When traditional methods proved ineffective for their poor oral skills, Mr. Wu introduced his "music teaching method," which he had used in his youth. He played his guitar and sang an English song, the same one he and Director Pan sang on their first day at Zhen Hua.
Director Pan, passing by, heard the song and a subtle smile appeared on his face. With this new approach, Xin Rui and Xu Zhiqiang gained confidence, their English pronunciation and class participation significantly improved, and their relationships with classmates grew stronger. Returning to the TV studio for his next lecture, Mr. Wu found himself unable to connect with the indifferent crew, who were more concerned with technicalities than his content.
He felt a profound sense of emptiness, questioning the purpose of his presence there. He realized his true passion and calling lay in teaching his students at school, recognizing that his impact was on "forty-two" students, not "four hundred thousand" viewers. Without hesitation, Mr. Wu rushed back to Zhen Hua, still sweating from his run, to inform Director Pan that he would not resign and was committed to leading Class 3.
Simultaneously, the English exam results arrived, confirming that Xin Rui and Xu Zhiqiang had passed and would remain at Zhen Hua. Meanwhile, Chu Tiankuo delivered the key to the vacant classroom to Mi Qiao, officially granting the Anime Club their activity room. Lin Yang, along with Jiang Chuan, had worked through the night to clean and prepare the room.
Lin Yang then went to buy a celebratory cake but encountered Benben, Yu Zhouzhou's childhood friend, who unexpectedly confronted him, warning him to stay away from Yu Zhouzhou and taking his cake.
