My Huckleberry Friends Episode 3 Recap
> My Huckleberry Friends Recap
Lin Yang stormed into Director Pan's office, loudly declaring his last will and testament. He, Lin Yang, a student of Class 2, Grade 11, Zhen Hua High, had "sinned" by secretly entering the director's office the day before school. He lamented that he had not lived up to his teachers, the director, his parents, or his classmates, hoping his "death" would serve as a warning.
Director Pan, unphased, mocked Lin Yang's writing skills and, in turn, dictated his own "last words," criticizing his performance as a director. Lin Yang quickly begged for forgiveness, promising to amend his ways. Director Pan, admitting he was reluctant to expel such a promising student, but also needing to prevent further trouble, sentenced Lin Yang to probation and returned him to his original Class 2, the science stream. Lin Yang, relieved, returned to Class 2.
Though his classmates and teacher, Mr. Zhang, playfully pretended not to know him and teased him about pursuing liberal arts, they ultimately welcomed him back. Meanwhile, Class 3 celebrated their third-place win in the blackboard newspaper competition. Yu Zhouzhou was praised for her efforts, but Mi Qiao then revealed that their success was largely due to Lin Yang. She explained that Lin Yang had risked expulsion by confessing to Director Pan, buying them precious time to complete the blackboard newspaper.
Yu Zhouzhou was shocked to learn the truth about Lin Yang's secret transfer to the liberal arts class and his subsequent return, realizing all his actions had been for her. She was eager to speak with him. Yu Zhouzhou and Mi Qiao found Lin Yang being scolded by Mr. Zhang for doing math problems during physics class.
Lin Yang, seeing Yu Zhouzhou approaching, deflected Mr. Zhang's attempts to uncover his true motivations for transferring classes, instead giving a philosophical speech about life being a multiple-choice question and the importance of trying different paths. Angered by Lin Yang's evasiveness, Mr. Zhang withdrew his offer to intercede with Director Pan on his behalf.
As Yu Zhouzhou and Mi Qiao left, Director Pan's broadcast announced Lin Yang's probation, detailing his unauthorized entry into the office and warning of expulsion for future infractions. Jiang Chuan, Lin Yang's friend, expressed his confusion about Lin Yang's intense devotion to Yu Zhouzhou, asking if he owed her money, but Lin Yang just smiled, refusing to elaborate. Later, Director Pan confiscated Mi Qiao's wooden sword at the school gate, dismissing her protests that it was a personal hobby.
Lin Yang and Yu Zhouzhou were also marked down for being late, though Yu Zhouzhou was given a reprieve by Director Pan. Back in class, Mi Qiao, admiring Yu Zhouzhou's blackboard newspaper, recognized the influence of Japanese manga artist Takeuchi Naoko. Discovering their shared love for manga, Mi Qiao immediately invited Yu Zhouzhou to join her Anime Club. Yu Zhouzhou initially hesitated, realizing the club consisted only of Mi Qiao and Zheng Yanyi, making her the third member.
To convince her, Mi Qiao took Yu Zhouzhou to their "secret base," a room filled with impressive cosplay props and posters, which instantly captivated Yu Zhouzhou. Mi Qiao then revealed the catch: the club was currently unofficial and needed school approval, making Yu Zhouzhou feel somewhat duped. To gain official recognition, the Anime Club needed the Student Union President's signature. With the Student Union facing re-election, Mi Qiao and Yu Zhouzhou placed their hopes on the incoming president.
However, Mi Qiao was wary of Chu Tiankuo, who was aggressively campaigning with a televised interview. She then approached Ling Xiangqian, but Ling Xiangqian expressed disinterest in supporting small clubs like theirs. Frustrated, Mi Qiao decided on an audacious plan: to recruit Lin Yang to run for president, knowing his unwavering commitment to Yu Zhouzhou would ensure his help.
Meanwhile, Jiang Chuan, disguised as a "Messenger" with a bandana, awkwardly campaigned for Ling Xiangqian, loudly proclaiming her the "Goddess of Zhen Hua" and a "beautiful, sweet, loving, and devoted princess," much to Ling Xiangqian's embarrassment. Two new students, Xu Zhiqiang and Xin Rui, transferred to Class 3 from Jiangbei High School.
During their self-introductions, Xu Zhiqiang loudly declared himself loyal to his new classmates, while Xin Rui mumbled her name, leading Xu Zhiqiang to explain she had a "communication disorder." Yu Zhouzhou had previously found Xin Rui's novel, "Seventeen No Cry," but it was confiscated by a teacher before she could return it. Yu Zhouzhou later apologized to Xin Rui, who graciously dismissed it. Lin Yang informed Director Pan of his intention to run for Student Union President.
Director Pan was shocked, questioning how a student on probation could harbor such "presumptuous thoughts," and threatened to disqualify him. Lin Yang countered that no school rule prohibited it, asserting his right to run. Despite Director Pan's opposition, Lin Yang's determination was unwavering, and his initial campaign speech, in which he candidly admitted his probation but vowed to be a president who truly served students and fostered diverse club activities beyond academics, received a strong positive reaction.
As the election approached its final stages, Yu Zhouzhou urged Lin Yang to withdraw, concerned that his probation would make him a target for criticism. Lin Yang, however, was emboldened by her concern, feeling it made all his efforts worthwhile. He bought drinks for students to gather votes and diligently prepared for his final speech. Yu Zhouzhou and Mi Qiao accidentally overheard him practicing, impressed by his dedication.
During a phone call, Ling Xiangqian's mother attempted to give her a card to "bribe" Director Pan, but Ling Xiangqian chose not to use it. Nevertheless, Director Pan privately provided Ling Xiangqian with the range of topics for the final speech, subtly indicating his preference for her to win and emphasizing that "teacher's opinions are more important" than student votes, regardless of Lin Yang's "troublemaking."
Exiting the office, Ling Xiangqian encountered Chu Tiankuo, who wished her "fair competition," making her feel uneasy given Pan's overt bias. At home, during a phone call, Ling's mother revealed she had already arranged for someone to prepare answers based on Director Pan's provided topics. Feeling overwhelmed and exhausted by the constant pressure, Ling Xiangqian tore up the prepared notes. After receiving a supportive text message from Chu Tiankuo, she decided to withdraw from the election.
The next day, during the speeches, she announced her withdrawal, stating that Lin Yang and Chu Tiankuo were more qualified, and she felt a sudden sense of relief. During his speech, Chu Tiankuo notably emphasized his support for club development, mentioning the desire for an Anime Club to be established. This promise, which mirrored Lin Yang's key platform, worried Jiang Chuan, who felt Chu Tiankuo had "stolen their advantage."
Lin Yang, however, remained cheerful, stating that as long as club development was supported, it didn't matter who won, as his primary motivation was Yu Zhouzhou's club. Lin Yang then delivered his own powerful speech, admitting he initially didn't know why he was running, but felt that if being president was "cool" or could "help his friends," he would do it.
He passionately advocated for establishing clubs and respecting individual interests, using a mathematical analogy of life as a curve and seeking others' dimensions to create new ones. Unfortunately, Yu Zhouzhou missed Lin Yang's speech. She had rushed to Qiu Lin Book Store to buy a copy of "Seventeen No Cry" for Xin Rui, but the book had been borrowed and was not yet returned.
By the time Yu Zhouzhou, breathless, ran back to school, the election results had already been announced: Chu Tiankuo won overwhelmingly with 588 votes, while Lin Yang received 102 votes. Later, Xin Rui was reprimanded for wearing sandals to PE class. Yu Zhouzhou quickly intervened, explaining the situation and saving Xin Rui from punishment, a kindness for which Xin Rui was deeply grateful.
