My Huckleberry Friends Episode 22 Recap
> My Huckleberry Friends Recap
Yu Zhouzhou observed Mi Qiao and Benben joking around at Benben's skewer stand. She noticed a different dynamic, particularly the way Mi Qiao looked at Benben when Yu Zhouzhou playfully interacted with him. Confirming her suspicion that Mi Qiao harbored feelings for Benben, Yu Zhouzhou excused herself, claiming to have left something in the classroom, to give her friends space. Afterward, Benben offered to drive Mi Qiao home on his motorcycle.
Mi Qiao, sitting on the back, felt her heart race with newfound emotions, mistaking the sensation for an illness. She felt shy and didn't hold onto him, despite Benben's repeated urging for her to do so to ensure her safety, even warning that she might fall. A short while later, Mi Qiao, overwhelmed by her fast-beating heart, urged him to stop and insisted on walking the rest of the way home alone, wondering if she was "sick again."
Benben was puzzled by her sudden change in mood. The next morning, students of Zhen Hua were called to school early by Director Pan for a run. During a break, Mi Qiao complained to Yu Zhouzhou about Director Pan's strictness, having heard rumors of an anonymous letter reporting "early romance" in their grade.
Just as Lin Yang brought breakfast to Yu Zhouzhou, Director Pan appeared, confiscated the food, and ordered Lin Yang to run ten laps, stating he had been observing him all morning for disregarding school rules. Later that morning, Director Pan instructed Chu Tiankuo to keep an eye on students, mentioning the anonymous letter about overly close male and female students. He emphasized that Zhen Hua's reputation for academic integrity must be upheld, especially with an upcoming visit from school leaders.
Chu Tiankuo, worried the accusation might involve him and Ling Xiangqian, became visibly uncomfortable. At lunch, Director Pan covertly watched Lin Yang and Yu Zhouzhou eating with Jiang Chuan and Mi Qiao. Lin Yang enthusiastically invited Yu Zhouzhou to his house for studying and fun over the weekend, mentioning his parents would be away. Yu Zhouzhou politely declined, explaining she needed to visit her grandmother with Yu Fei. Director Pan, who had been listening intently, seemed relieved by her refusal.
In the library, Chu Tiankuo's unease led him to keep a noticeable distance from Ling Xiangqian when she approached him with a question. Ling Xiangqian sensed his recent odd behavior and questioned him about it. While they were discussing a problem, Director Pan arrived, startling Chu Tiankuo. Director Pan inquired about Lin Yang and Yu Zhouzhou's location, to which Chu Tiankuo directed him to the back of the bookshelves.
After Director Pan left, Ling Xiangqian asked if the rumors about the anonymous letter were about them. Chu Tiankuo casually dismissed the idea, stating there was "nothing going on between them." Later, after school, Chu Tiankuo found Ling Xiangqian still upset. He apologized, clarifying that he didn't mean to imply their relationship was insignificant, but rather that her unique qualities made her distinct from others in his heart.
He then walked her home under his umbrella, assuring her of her special place. Meanwhile, Lin Yang and Yu Zhouzhou were engrossed in a math problem behind the library bookshelves when Director Pan unexpectedly appeared, startling them. He indirectly admonished them to focus on their studies and avoid "meaningless things." After school, Lin Yang waited for Yu Zhouzhou at the bus stop.
As her bus arrived, he rode his bicycle alongside it, playfully teasing her and making her smile before heading home. Mi Qiao, still experiencing rapid heartbeats whenever she was near Benben, tried to rationalize her feelings by consulting Yu Zhouzhou about a "friend" with similar symptoms, which Yu Zhouzhou quickly recognized as a crush.
To distract herself and cover her shyness, Mi Qiao boastfully challenged Benben about whether there was treasure at the end of a rainbow, a belief her father instilled in her during childhood. Benben, citing scientific impossibility, dismissed her claim, causing Mi Qiao to stomp off in a huff. In math class, the teacher returned test papers, with Ling Xiangqian and Yu Zhouzhou achieving the highest scores. Xin Rui, overhearing this, felt deeply disheartened by her own comparatively lower performance.
Still determined to prove her point to Benben, Mi Qiao brought a geography book to show Yu Zhouzhou, but Director Pan swiftly confiscated it. Desperate to retrieve her book, Mi Qiao pleaded with Yu Zhouzhou to accompany her to Director Pan's office to stealthily tear out the crucial page. While they were in the hallway, Lin Yang spotted them hurrying past.
He quickly handed his math paper to Xin Rui, who was also going to the office, asking her to deliver it to Mr. Zhang and to write his name on it since he had forgotten. Lin Yang then rushed to join Yu Zhouzhou as a lookout for Mi Qiao. However, their covert operation was interrupted by Mr. Zhang, who questioned Lin Yang and Yu Zhouzhou's presence in the hallway.
Misunderstanding the situation, Mr. Zhang warned them about their "influence" on other students. Without further explanation, he called Lin Yang away, and also instructed Yu Zhouzhou to collect her class's homework. Inside Director Pan's office, while searching for her book, Mi Qiao stumbled upon the anonymous letter, discovering with shock that it accused Lin Yang and Yu Zhouzhou of "early romance." Just then, Director Pan and Yu Zhouzhou’s homeroom teacher, Mr. Wu Wenlu, entered.
Mi Qiao quickly hid under the desk and overheard their conversation. Mr. Wu adamantly defended his students, believing the issue stemmed from the anonymous letter itself, but Director Pan insisted on speaking with Lin Yang and Yu Zhouzhou. Before leaving, Mr. Wu discovered Mi Qiao, but kindly covered for her, preventing Director Pan from noticing. Back in the classroom, Mi Qiao relayed her discovery of the anonymous letter to Yu Zhouzhou.
Suddenly, Jiang Chuan burst in, announcing that Lin Yang had been summoned by Director Pan. Yu Zhouzhou immediately wanted to clarify the situation, but Mi Qiao and Jiang Chuan held her back. Jiang Chuan then delivered Lin Yang's message: "With a clear conscience, stay calm." In the office, Director Pan extensively questioned Lin Yang about his relationship with Yu Zhouzhou, asking when they met and if there had been any "physical contact beyond classmates."
Lin Yang skillfully deflected each question with witty and truthful answers. He explained they had known each other since childhood, that their "hand-holding" was for a school photoshoot Director Pan himself had approved, and even offered his phone to prove he didn't have Yu Zhouzhou's number, implying he had no time to delete it since he was "caught off guard."
Lin Yang then turned the tables, questioning the source of the anonymous letter and reminding Director Pan that it was he who encouraged him to interact more with outstanding students like Yu Zhouzhou, indirectly suggesting Director Pan's advice had led to their current closeness. Unable to find any concrete evidence, Director Pan reluctantly allowed Lin Yang to leave but ordered him to write a 5000-word self-reflection.
Lin Yang, ever resourceful, bargained, offering to write 10,000 words and even prepare Yu Zhouzhou's reflection, citing her heavy workload in the liberal arts class. After school, to avoid further gossip, Yu Zhouzhou deliberately kept her distance from Lin Yang and went home alone, despite his attempts to walk with her. She also asked him not to bring her breakfast anymore.
Later, Yu Zhouzhou and Mi Qiao went to Benben's skewer stand, where he had already learned about the anonymous report. Mi Qiao, still irritated by Benben's earlier skepticism, angrily left after he again dismissed her belief in treasure at the end of the rainbow. Benben, confused by her sudden departure, asked Yu Zhouzhou why Mi Qiao was upset.
Yu Zhouzhou, sensing Benben's genuine concern, confirmed that Mi Qiao was a loyal person and subtly encouraged him to pursue her, asking if he could be trusted to "take care" of Mi Qiao, to which he eagerly agreed. Benben then asked Yu Zhouzhou for a way to create a rainbow without rain. The next day, Lin Yang visited Yu Zhouzhou's class to give her a math paper.
Mi Qiao, seeing his name written on the paper, was stunned, realizing the handwriting was identical to the "Lin Yang" written on the anonymous report letter. Lin Yang, recalling asking Xin Rui to write his name on a paper, immediately deduced that Xin Rui was the anonymous sender. After school, Xin Rui approached Lin Yang to return something he had lent her. Lin Yang directly confronted her, stating he knew she had written the report letter.
He promised not to tell Yu Zhouzhou but warned her that it must be the last time. Benben, taking Yu Zhouzhou's advice, decided to make his move. He bought a prism and, using light refraction, created a beautiful rainbow that cast vibrant colors on Mi Qiao's face. He then confessed to her that he believed in the treasure at the end of the rainbow, and that treasure was her. Mi Qiao was overwhelmed, her heart racing once more, and she again questioned if she was "sick."
