My Huckleberry Friends Episode 20 Recap
> My Huckleberry Friends Recap
After Lin Yang’s birthday party, Xin Rui’s mood soured, and she responded poorly to her parents. Her mother scolded her for her temper and for throwing things around, reminding her of their provision for her before raising a broom to hit her. Feeling wronged, Xin Rui sat by the mirror, shedding tears.
The next day at school, Yu Zhouzhou noticed bruises on Xin Rui’s face and expressed concern, but Xin Rui coldly dismissed her, stating it was none of her business. Later, Zheng Yanyi approached Xin Rui for help with a test paper. Xin Rui refused to assist him, claiming she hadn't done it and didn't know the answer, then irritably told him to stop asking her every time he encountered a problem.
Benben and Mi Qiao discussed their financial situation for their planned trip to a nearby city for an Eason Chan concert. Mi Qiao revealed she only had 36. 5 yuan, having spent her money on equipment for the Anime Club. After realizing the tight budget, Benben decided he would cover the expenses and buy tickets the following day. He purchased one hard seat ticket for himself and a hard sleeper ticket for Mi Qiao, aiming to save money.
However, while he was at the ticket counter, Mi Qiao called, her voice sounding weak, to inform him that she was in the hospital, having taken a leave from school. Benben immediately rushed to her side. There, Mi Qiao’s father revealed that her heart condition was very serious; she had been admitted to the emergency room the previous night, causing her father to stay up all night.
Despite the gravity of her illness, her father remained optimistic, wishing for Mi Qiao to experience happiness and create beautiful memories. He granted permission for the concert trip, but only after her latest laboratory test results were available. Meanwhile, Mi Qiao received news that the Anime Club had been merged with the Games Club and Travel Club from the senior grade one, effectively rendering it cease to exist except in name. This news greatly upset her.
Back at the hospital, Mi Qiao initially expressed frustration about the delay, fearing they might miss the concert. Benben reassured her, promising to manage her father's concerns and ensure she attended the concert as planned. Their previous misunderstandings resolved, Yu Zhouzhou and Lin Yang’s relationship grew closer. During lunch, Lin Yang thanked Yu Zhouzhou for his birthday gift.
She explained that she had overheard him expressing sadness over the retirement of his favorite basketball star, Miller, and decided to gift him an original foreign language autobiography, which she then diligently translated into Chinese. Lin Yang was deeply touched by her thoughtful gesture. As they walked after their meal, Lin Yang felt a profound sense of peace. Later, on their way home, Yu Zhouzhou took Lin Yang to a park where she first met Chen An.
She confided in him about the "protagonist game" Chen An had taught her there, describing it as imagining oneself as a powerful hero who, despite challenges and injuries, would always find a way to fight to create a new way. Lin Yang then understood her decision to forgo a top junior high school for Thirteenth High School; she had sought to escape past sorrows and forge her own world.
Yu Zhouzhou also mentioned that the "protagonist game" had similarly helped Xin Rui, explaining her remarkable academic improvement. She then playfully brought up Lin Yang giving Xin Rui a burned CD, prompting Lin Yang to realize that Yu Zhouzhou's previous "irritated" demeanor had been a sign of her jealousy, a realization that secretly delighted him. With these emotional hurdles cleared, their bond rapidly deepened.
Lin Yang declared that even if he had to fight against the whole world, he would stand by Yu Zhouzhou’s side, to which she gratefully responded. With the General Exam approaching, Yu Zhouzhou found herself struggling with long-distance running. Lin Yang, while playfully teasing her about her poor stamina, offered to accompany her for practice every morning, afternoon, and evening until the physical examination, emphasizing the exam's significance for graduation.
Later, during a visit to the library, Yu Zhouzhou acquired a color weakness check chart. As she playfully tested Lin Yang, she unexpectedly discovered he had color weakness. Knowing that the upcoming physical exam would include a color vision test, Yu Zhouzhou helped Lin Yang memorize the entire book. However, during the actual examination, a different version of the color vision chart was used.
Yu Zhouzhou attempted to discreetly signal the correct answers to Lin Yang, but Director Pan caught their covert communication and instructed them to step outside. Resigned, Lin Yang accepted his predicament. For the subsequent long-distance running portion of the exam, Lin Yang accompanied Yu Zhouzhou, offering his support and preparing to pull her along if she faltered. After Mi Qiao's laboratory test results came back favorably, allowing her discharge from the hospital, she expressed disappointment over missing their train tickets.
Benben then suggested an exciting road trip on his motorcycle as an alternative. Mi Qiao, thrilled by the idea, meticulously prepared a bag full of supplies, even fashioning a cross from a flashlight and a stick to ward off "zombies" and "ghosts" on their journey.
She explained to Benben that Eason Chan's music held profound meaning for her; his cheerful songs, particularly one about a walk-on who seeks joy amidst sorrow, had given her the courage to live after a terrifying emergency room visit where she had contemplated suicide, feeling like a burden to her distraught father. This concert, she asserted, was a pilgrimage. They set off excitedly on their motorcycle, eager for the adventure. Along the way, their motorcycle ran out of gas.
Mi Qiao volunteered to refuel while Benben rested by the roadside. He soon struck up a conversation with a man named Lei, a self-proclaimed seasoned traveler who boasted of his adventures and even claimed authorship of popular song lyrics. Lei, expressing admiration for their youthful bond, offered to take their picture for his travel notes. He instructed them to set their bags down and move further away for a better scenic backdrop.
As Mi Qiao and Benben walked towards the designated spot, Lei abruptly sped off with their luggage and money. Benben, realizing they had been robbed, urged Mi Qiao to get on the motorcycle, only to discover she had mistakenly filled the tank with diesel instead of gasoline in an attempt to save money, rendering the bike useless.
Benben, furious about the theft and the wrong fuel, yelled at Mi Qiao, who then burst into tears, reminding him of her heart condition. Benben immediately apologized, taking full responsibility for talking to Lei, leaving their bags unattended, and allowing her to refuel. Stranded and without their belongings, they were left to push the motorcycle on foot.
