My Huckleberry Friends Episode 19 Recap
> My Huckleberry Friends Recap
During a summer holiday, Yu Zhouzhou and Lin Yang met at KFC to study and enjoy ice cream. Yu Zhouzhou happily shared her favorite music with Lin Yang, their laughter filling the air. Their pleasant time was interrupted when Yu Zhouzhou received a call from her uncle, who informed her that her grandmother was ill. Yu Zhouzhou grew concerned, realizing how quickly time had passed and her grandmother had aged.
At the hospital, Yu Zhouzhou tended to her grandmother, peeling an apple for her and engaging in a heartfelt conversation. She confided in her grandmother about meeting her father recently and feeling reassured that someone else in the world cared for her, a different kind of care than that of teachers, friends, or her aunt and uncle. Though she wasn't sure if they would meet again, she felt a sense of warmth.
Her grandmother expressed relief, knowing Yu Zhouzhou had truly let go of past grievances. Meanwhile, Lin Yang’s birthday was approaching. His parents celebrated it early due to an upcoming business trip, but Lin Yang requested to host a separate party with friends on his actual birthday. At school, during lunch, Mi Qiao mentioned Lin Yang's birthday party, noting that he had invited several friends, but not Yu Zhouzhou.
Feeling a pang of disappointment, Yu Zhouzhou still decided to prepare a thoughtful gift for him. She then overheard Lin Yang and Jiang Chuan discussing the retirement of their favorite basketball player, Reggie Miller, and how sad Lin Yang was about it. This gave Yu Zhouzhou an idea for a gift. Later, Xin Rui proactively asked if she could attend his party, even presenting him with a small gift. Lin Yang readily agreed.
Mi Qiao observed Lin Yang and Xin Rui spending more time together and warned Yu Zhouzhou that Xin Rui was now surpassing her academically and potentially in her relationship with Lin Yang. Although seeing them laugh and chat made Yu Zhouzhou uncomfortable, she wasn't jealous; instead, she focused on meticulously preparing Lin Yang's gift. With the help of her cousin, Yu Zhouzhou acquired an original English book about Reggie Miller.
She then dedicated herself to translating it and transcribing the Chinese version neatly into a notebook. After Lin Yang’s extracurricular remedial class ended, Xin Rui lingered, asking Lin Yang to stay and accompany her for a while, claiming she wanted to study. Lin Yang, though initially planning to leave, reluctantly agreed, finding it difficult to refuse a request from a girl.
Xin Rui borrowed Lin Yang's CD, complimenting a song he had recommended, unaware that it was actually Yu Zhouzhou's favorite. Xin Rui then subtly steered the conversation to Yu Zhouzhou, implying that Yu Zhouzhou had been avoiding her since the last exam and suggesting Yu Zhouzhou might be jealous. Lin Yang quickly shook his head, asserting that Yu Zhouzhou was not that kind of person.
Xin Rui then tried to shift the blame for their tension onto Yu Zhouzhou, but Lin Yang quickly denied it, taking full responsibility for any tension between them, admitting he hadn't been considerate enough in their interactions. He confessed that whenever he was around Yu Zhouzhou, he would say or do things without thinking, always letting her down. Later, Lin Yang approached Yu Zhouzhou to formally invite her to his birthday party.
Yu Zhouzhou hesitated, explaining she needed to stay with her grandmother that night and wasn't sure if she could make it. Misinterpreting her hesitation as reluctance, Lin Yang grew disheartened and accused her of being unreliable, often going back on her promises. He instantly regretted his words after she walked away. Meanwhile, Mi Qiao's Anime Club faced an unprecedented crisis.
With many similar and inactive clubs, the school planned to shut down several, and the Anime Club was first on the blacklist. Mi Qiao painstakingly organized an activity, but no members showed up. Dejected, Mi Qiao sat alone by the school gates when Benben found her. He offered to be her loyal audience as she expressed her frustration. She also confided her greatest wish: to see an Eason Chan concert in a nearby city.
Benben, seeing her fervent desire, promised to take her. Overjoyed, Mi Qiao hugged him tightly to express her joy. On the evening of Lin Yang's birthday, Ling Xiangqian, Jiang Chuan, and other friends arrived early at his home. When the doorbell rang, Lin Yang's heart leaped, expecting Yu Zhouzhou, but it was Xin Rui. He forced a smile and invited her in. During the gift-giving, friends presented impressive gifts.
Xin Rui, seeing the others' generous offerings, discreetly hid her own, feeling it was too modest in comparison, and claimed she had forgotten to bring a gift. After the party, Lin Yang went downstairs to see his friends off. Xin Rui lingered, hoping to speak with him, but Lin Yang asked a friend who was going her way to take her home. Reluctantly, Xin Rui left.
Yu Zhouzhou, however, had been at the hospital, translating the foreign book while waiting for her uncle to relieve her. Her uncle arrived late, and Yu Zhouzhou rushed out of the hospital, running towards Lin Yang's house. As Lin Yang stood downstairs after seeing his friends off, he received a call from Yu Zhouzhou, who was at his building and asked if he was home.
Lin Yang's heart filled with joy, but he playfully lied, telling her he was out at a KTV and might be gone all night. Yu Zhouzhou’s voice dropped in disappointment. Lin Yang then softly walked up behind her and gently called out her name. Yu Zhouzhou spun around, her face lighting up with happiness upon seeing him. She immediately handed him her gift. Without even looking, Lin Yang declared he loved it, saying he would cherish anything she gave him.
They chatted happily. From a distance, Xin Rui, who had returned to Lin Yang's building after being sent home, witnessed their reunion. Clutching her hidden gift, her jealousy toward Yu Zhouzhou intensified. She stormed home, unleashing her anger on her parents. Back at his home, Lin Yang unwrapped Yu Zhouzhou's gift—the English autobiography of Reggie Miller and her meticulously handwritten Chinese translation. He was utterly delighted, and in that moment, all past conflicts between them seemed insignificant.
