The Spring Festival was drawing near, and Yu Zhouzhou's uncle's family was bustling with activity, cleaning the house and putting up traditional couplets, creating a warm family atmosphere. Amidst the preparations, Yu Zhouzhou received a text message requesting a meeting, signed by her father. Meanwhile, at the bustling vegetable market, Jiang Chuan and Lin Yang spotted Chu Tiankuo working at a seafood stall.

Jiang Chuan immediately wanted to go over and greet him, but Lin Yang held him back, understanding that someone as proud as Chu Tiankuo would likely prefer not to be seen by classmates in that situation. Elsewhere, Mi Qiao and Benben were joyfully exploring a fireworks stand. Mi Qiao reminisced about playing with double-bang firecrackers as a child, while Benben expressed excitement over various types like petards, frisbee-shaped, and mouse-shaped firecrackers.

They playfully argued with the vendor and each other about trying out the fireworks before buying. Benben, after complaining about being Mi Qiao's "coolie" all day, suggested she play with Yu Zhouzhou, but Mi Qiao mentioned Yu Zhouzhou was constantly busy with Chen An. Later, Yu Zhouzhou and Chen An were treated to dinner by Xiaoming's father, as a token of gratitude for their coaching at the Children's Palace art troupe, which helped Xiaoming win an award.

Xiaoming's father hoped Chen An would continue tutoring his son, but Chen An politely declined, citing his limited time due to being home only for the New Year. Before they left, Chen An advised Xiaoming to relax and not practice piano if he didn't feel like it during the holiday, which visibly surprised Xiaoming's father. Walking away from the restaurant, Yu Zhouzhou laughed, finding Chen An's candidness amusing, especially recalling Xiaoming's father's astonished expression.

Yu Zhouzhou then showed Chen An the text message from her father. Chen An took her to the Children's Palace, where he shared his own painful family history. He noted the similarities between their situations: Yu Zhouzhou's father abandoned her and her mother, while Chen An's father began a relationship with his current wife during his mother's severe illness.

He revealed that his current stepmother had a son who, even at a young age, worried about Chen An competing for the family inheritance. Given this, Chen An believed it was best to sever ties completely and indicated this would be his last time home for the New Year. He questioned the point of meeting a parent who had been absent for so long, especially if the concern was disingenuous.

Yu Zhouzhou confessed her conflicted feelings, recalling a childhood memory of associating not having a desired drink with not having a father, but also remembering her mother ultimately providing it, leaving her unsure how to approach her father now. Chen An acknowledged her dilemma, suggesting that if meeting her father would bring her inner peace, she should go, but he personally did not recommend it. Meanwhile, Lin Yang's family was dining with Zhou Guoshu's family.

During the meal, Zhou Shenran and his mother made unpleasant remarks about Yu Zhouzhou, even blaming her for Zhou Shenran's eye injury. Unable to tolerate it, Lin Yang excused himself to the restroom. Zhou Guoshu followed him out and expressed his desire to see Yu Zhouzhou one last time before his transfer to Beijing. He explained he had sent her a message but received no reply and wondered if she refused to see him.

Lin Yang, sensing Zhou Guoshu's genuine intention, promised to speak with Yu Zhouzhou and ensure they met before he left. Later that evening, Lin Yang waited outside Yu Zhouzhou's home. He confronted her about her father's request, telling her about his upcoming transfer to Beijing and the possibility of never returning.

Yu Zhouzhou was annoyed by his interference, but Lin Yang used an analogy about regretting not buying a rare Water Margin card to emphasize the importance of not missing an opportunity that might lead to lifelong regret, especially concerning her father. He also referenced his own regret over her mother's past situation, which he deeply apologized for.

In another part of the neighborhood, Benben's adoptive father was heavily inebriated after his birth father had visited, an event that frequently caused distress. Mi Qiao and Benben worked together to help him to bed, showing their support during his struggles. Mi Qiao also suggested they go set off fireworks later that night. On New Year's Eve, after much deliberation, Yu Zhouzhou decided to meet her father and sent him a reply.

Upon receiving her message, Zhou Guoshu, despite his wife's forceful attempts to stop him, insisted on leaving immediately. His wife, furious, began smashing household items while Zhou Shenran watched from his room. Yu Zhouzhou and Zhou Guoshu met, where he informed her of his transfer to Beijing and that Zhou Shenran would also move there, implying they would likely not return. He apologized for the hardships she and her mother endured and for the troubles Zhou Shenran had caused.

Yu Zhouzhou, in turn, briefly mentioned her school life and her aspirations to study in Beijing, wanting both of them to feel at peace and leave no regrets. When Zhou Guoshu went to buy drinks, Yu Zhouzhou subtly left. Back at his own home, Chen An, instead of celebrating with his family, announced his intention to completely sever ties.

He demanded 200,000 yuan, stating that after receiving it, he would no longer take any money from the family and would relinquish any inheritance rights upon his father's passing. His stepmother agreed to abide by his father's decision. Chen An's father expressed sadness, asking if he truly couldn't forgive him. Chen An's response was stark: in his heart, his father had ceased to exist long ago. Later, Zhou Guoshu found Zhou Shenran sitting alone outside, smoking.

He calmly took the cigarette from him and offered him a drink, acknowledging Zhou Shenran's unhappiness stemming from past family issues and promising to support him with care and tolerance to help him find happiness again. That New Year's Eve, while Benben and Mi Qiao joyfully set off fireworks, and Yu Zhouzhou shared a warm reunion dinner with her uncle's family and grandmother, she received an apology text from Lin Yang for meddling in her affairs.

Lin Yang nervously awaited her reply, finally feeling relieved when she wished him a Happy New Year. In contrast to these festive scenes, Chen An walked alone through the quiet, fireworks-lit streets, having definitively cut ties with his family.
