My Dear GuardianĀ Episode 11 Recap
> My Dear GuardianĀ Recap
Xia Chu arrived at the front line, determined to give Liang Muze a medical check-up after hearing from Xiao Teng that he hadn't slept for days. Liang Muze, a professional military officer, insisted he was fine and tried to dismiss her, even attempting to carry her away. Xia Chu stubbornly refused to leave unless he rested. Their struggle was interrupted by Brigade Commander Dong, to whom Xia Chu immediately recounted Liang Muze's refusal to prioritize his health.
Brigade Commander Dong admonished Liang Muze for his lack of consideration and for needing to reflect on his actions. Their conversation was cut short by an urgent report from Dr. Wu's camp. Xia Chu rushed over to find three, then four soldiers, including a staff officer, suffering from fevers exceeding thirty-nine degrees Celsius, along with sore throats, runny noses, body aches, coughing, and diarrhea. Observing the symptoms, Xia Chu immediately suspected a potential epidemic outbreak following the flood.
She urgently requested Brigade Commander Dong to isolate the tent and prevent anyone else from entering until the diagnosis could be confirmed by a superior unit, stating that only she and Dr. Wu should remain inside. Brigade Commander Dong agreed, acknowledging the severity of post-flood disease prevention. Xia Chu stayed to care for the patients, while Liang Muze continued to lead his team in flood relief efforts.
As the sky finally cleared, Xia Chu, during a rare moment of rest, offered Liang Muze a bottle of water. They sat together, and Liang Muze expressed his deep anxiety about the sick soldiers, revealing his greatest wish was to bring all his comrades back unharmed to their families, citing the profound "tears of a military officer's family." He spoke of the incident with Luo Liang, asserting he would rather have been the one in the casket than his brother.
Xia Chu then shared her own story: her mother, Ms. Lan, a chief nurse, contracted SARS in 2003 while caring for patients, profoundly influencing Xia Chu's decision to become a doctor despite her mother's initial opposition. She told Liang Muze that as a doctor, overcoming fear is essential, and she prioritizes fulfilling her duty without regret.
She urged him to cherish his own life, admitting her fear of him getting hurt because she, as a doctor, could not stand to see someone neglect their body. Soon after, Brigade Commander Dong returned with a medical team. The doctors confirmed the patients were infected with the W4C9 virus, but fortunately, no mutation was detected, and a vaccine was already on its way. They praised Xia Chu's timely isolation measures.
The immediate plan involved administering medication to the patients, conducting blood tests on other soldiers, and providing prevention guidance to prevent further infection. Xiao Teng, one of the recovering soldiers, even asked where the "angels" were, having thought Xia Chu had wings during his fever. Brigade Commander Dong personally thanked the medical team, especially Xia Chu, for their professionalism and kindness.
As Xia Chu and the medical team departed, Liang Muze saw them off, and Xia Chu mouthed "wait for you to come home" from the vehicle. That night, back at his post, Liang Muze decided to take the sleeping pills Xia Chu had given him earlier but noticed they dissolved instantly like effervescent tablets, finding it strange. Back at the hospital, Dr. Zhang Yichi offered Xia Chu an opportunity to observe a postponed heart transplant surgery.
Xia Chu, noticing Xiao Xiao's interest, tried to secure a spot for her as well, praising Xiao Xiao's performance. However, Dr. Zhang informed them there was only one vacancy for a houseman. Xiao Xiao did not express gratitude for Xia Chu's efforts, instead stating that the next opportunity would definitely be hers.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, intelligence reports concerning a man named Xiong, suspected of supplying ephedra, a Chinese shrub used to produce crystal meth, to overseas drug cartels, were being gathered, with the "City of Desire" mentioned as a key channel. Zhuo Ran was involved in this intelligence operation, receiving data about the "invasion" via email. Later, Liang Muze returned home. Xia Chu had thoughtfully changed his bedsheets, and he was pleased by the gesture.
Liang Muze had also bought some custard steamed buns, which they both liked. After taking a shower, Liang Muze reviewed the security footage from his living room. He discovered Mi Gu had tampered with the sleeping pills Xia Chu gave him. Liang Muze kept this discovery to himself and joined Xia Chu for dinner.
During dinner, Xia Chu asked Liang Muze if he had taken the pill and if he had noticed anything "fun," hoping he'd discovered her minor prank with the effervescent tablet. When he showed no reaction, she teasingly called him a "straight guy." Their conversation then shifted to a deeper topic: death.
Xia Chu shared a painful memory of a high-risk pregnant patient who died from an amniotic fluid embolism, emphasizing how that experience taught her the importance of cherishing life and fulfilling her duty. Liang Muze, in turn, recounted the heartbreaking moments of his grandmother's passing, describing how he sang to her as the warmth left her hand. They agreed that understanding death allows them to cherish the present moment and avoid missing out on life's beauty.
Liang Muze asked if she feared missing out. Xia Chu then steered the conversation towards her past, mentioning Zhuo Ran, a high school classmate who wanted to be a detective novelist but now owned a 3D printing company. Liang Muze then asked if her past with Zhuo Ran was why she disliked military officers.
Xia Chu expressed surprise, realizing Liang Muze must have overheard her previous conversation with Zhuo Ran at the hospital, to which Liang Muze confessed he could read lips. The next morning, Liang Muze looked for "The Tokyo Zodiac Murders," a detective novel Xia Chu often read, but it was nowhere to be found. Neither of them dwelled on its disappearance. Liang Muze then invited Xia Chu to go furniture shopping, wanting to replace some items in his apartment.
Xia Chu agreed, and together they meticulously chose and arranged new furniture, transforming the apartment into a cozier space. They playfully interacted, even smearing custard steamed bun on each other, creating an intimate and warm atmosphere between them.
