In 2005, a perilous expedition unfolded on a frigid, snow-covered mountain. Qiu Lao led his team upward as the blizzard intensified, making it crucial to reach camp within half an hour for their survival. A strange sound reverberated through the air, and Qiu Lao was the first to realize the imminent danger: an avalanche. He frantically yelled for everyone to retreat, but it was too late; the explorers were swiftly engulfed by the white snow.

During the chaos, Qiu Lao managed to radio for help, identifying himself as Qiu Guolin. After the avalanche, Qiu Lao miraculously survived and encountered a mysterious man in the snow. When asked his identity, the man simply stated he was a "monster" with no home. The mysterious man threatened to kill him if he revealed anything, but Qiu Lao countered that he wouldn't, acknowledging the man had just saved his life from a falling rock.

The mysterious man then demonstrated his abilities: self-healing wounds and immense strength, claiming there were many more unbelievable feats. Qiu Lao confirmed he had witnessed them firsthand. When the mysterious man asked the current year, Qiu Lao informed him it was 2005. The man revealed he had been frozen in that spot for nearly twenty years, making him over 600 years old.

Qiu Lao expressed belief in immortal beings, remarking that human understanding of the world was limited, like a frog in a well. The mysterious man offered Qiu Lao a prolonged life in exchange for a favor, but Qiu Lao declined, asserting that life and death were divinely ordained, and greed would lead to punishment.

Thirteen years later, in 2018, actress Tian Jingzhi was in a deep slump after a painful breakup, often appearing dazed and even falling asleep during television show recordings. Her agent, Feng Dongdong, had to splash water on her to wake her up. Her lack of professionalism worried the crew, who even suggested preparing a bed for her.

Feng Dongdong explained Tian Jingzhi's emotional state, but the production staff noted her history of seven previous boyfriends and a rejected marriage proposal, implying she should be accustomed to breakups. The show was considering suspending her appearances. Tian Jingzhi also noticed a recurring scent of fresh white roses. Feng Dongdong suspected her ex-boyfriend was sending the anonymous white roses, which had been arriving for three months.

Tian Jingzhi vehemently denied this, insisting her ex would never send anonymous flowers, and instructed Feng Dongdong to throw the suspicious flowers away, fearing black magic. On her way home, Tian Jingzhi’s car was blocked by a moving truck. Feng Dongdong informed her that her new neighbor across the street, in building 21, was moving in and was reportedly a tall and handsome man.

Tian Jingzhi, however, was too absorbed in her heartbreak to care, warning Feng Dongdong not to pry further if he valued his own career. That night, Tian Jingzhi dreamt of Xue Lingqiao again. In the dream, she nearly drowned in a bathtub, and Xue Lingqiao told her not to make him worry.

She desperately pleaded with him not to leave, confessing her love, but he adamantly refused, explaining that humans and monsters were too different, and his exposure would jeopardize her peace. As she clung to him, fresh blood streamed down his arm. She awoke feeling nauseous and rushed to the bathroom to vomit. Feng Dongdong, upon hearing her retching, immediately suspected she might be pregnant.

Tian Jingzhi scoffed at the idea, arguing that since she was human and Xue Lingqiao was a mutant, pregnancy was impossible, especially since they had broken up four months ago and her stomach was flat. Despite her denial, her mood remained erratic, and she had no work. She sought therapy, and her psychologist, Dr. Jiang, diagnosed her condition as a prolonged low period after a breakup.

Tian Jingzhi found comfort in hearing Dr. Jiang call her "Miss Xue Aitian," enjoying the sound of her name. Unbeknownst to her, Xue Lingqiao was secretly watching her from a corner of the waiting room, finding her endearing. Meanwhile, Qiu Lao, Tian Jingzhi's grandfather, was tending to his garden in high temperatures. His butler urged him to rest to avoid heatstroke.

Qiu Lao expressed his dissatisfaction upon seeing his granddaughter, Tian Jingzhi, cry during a TV program, remarking that a girl crying on television was unacceptable. He blamed his daughter, Qiu Meiyun, for breaking away from the family to marry a poor man, which he believed led to his "little baby" granddaughter becoming a celebrity constantly involved in negative news.

His assistant, Yue, offered solutions to remove Tian Jingzhi from the entertainment industry, including marriage and blacklisting her from TV stations, but Qiu Lao dismissed the marriage idea, claiming Yama (god of death) had touched Tian Jingzhi’s head at birth, cursing her with bad luck in love. Just then, Yuebai, Qiu Lao's adopted son, arrived.

He presented Qiu Lao with a beautiful Song Dynasty's Kiln Celadon vase, which greatly pleased Qiu Lao, who noted it would perfectly complement his study's mahogany stand. Qiu Lao confided in Yuebai that he valued him more than his biological children. Yuebai humbly expressed his gratitude, stating that Qiu Lao had saved his life, adopted him, and taught him how to live in this society, like a second parent. He willingly called Qiu Lao "Father" and cherished their bond.

Yuebai also mentioned he would be staying for a while due to a new, unfolding situation, prompting Qiu Lao to congratulate him. Later, as Tian Jingzhi stepped out of her home, she encountered Yun Zhen, the man who had been sending her white roses. He openly admitted to being the anonymous sender and asked if she liked the flowers. Tian Jingzhi called him the "White Rose Pervert," to which he playfully retorted that her nickname for him was quite racy.

When she remarked on his ordinary appearance, he immediately asked if she was angry, bizarrely adding that anger was "bad for the baby." He then inquired about Xue Lingqiao and their breakup. Upon confirming their split, Yun Zhen saw an opportunity and boldly asked Tian Jingzhi to be his girlfriend, revealing he was a mutant, just like Xue Lingqiao, and also very powerful.

He even tried to convince her by stating he was only three hundred years old, making him two hundred years younger than Xue Lingqiao and a "young fresh meat." He then suggested moving into her house to "cultivate their relationship" and began calling her "wifey." Tian Jingzhi, overwhelmed by the day's events, asked him to give her some time to process everything. Tian Jingzhi went to the supermarket, still reeling from Yun Zhen's strange proposal.

There, she saw Xue Lingqiao, immediately assuming she was still dreaming and started patting her face to wake herself up, complaining that he always appeared bloody in her dreams. Back at home, after receiving a delivery, Tian Jingzhi was still convinced she was dreaming, lamenting how long this particular dream was. However, Xue Lingqiao, who had entered her apartment, revealed that it was not a dream.

Tian Jingzhi expressed her secret wish that he truly was in front of her, looking and talking to her, but instantly dismissed it as impossible, convinced she would only be a burden to him, and he had made the best decision by leaving. Xue Lingqiao corrected her, stating he never considered her a burden; on the contrary, he believed himself to be the greatest burden in her life.

She then mockingly dared him to "die" in front of her again, as he had in her dreams, but when he didn't, she said she would go back to sleep. The next day, Feng Dongdong questioned Tian Jingzhi about her last period, then presented her with a pregnancy test kit. Tian Jingzhi, flustered, tried to kick him out. Alone, she bought another pregnancy test. Despite her earlier conviction that she couldn't be pregnant, she tested positive.

Soon after, Tian Jingzhi was further shocked when she discovered that Xue Lingqiao was her new neighbor. Faced with her pregnancy and Xue Lingqiao's unexpected return, she was at a complete loss, her emotions a mix of disbelief and turmoil.
