Bao Xiaohan, while on a trip, received a phone call from Hou Jue. Initially, he thought Hou Jue was acting as a lobbyist for Hou Zhirong, but Hou Jue quickly clarified that he had parted ways with his father and was now working at Hedgehog Workshop. He extended an offer for Bao Xiaohan to join them for a Reggie bidding project, hanging up abruptly before Bao Xiaohan could respond, much like Hou Zhirong.

Bao Xiaohan, feeling lifeless despite being at the airport, still dragged his luggage to Hedgehog Workshop. Upon arrival, Hou Jue welcomed him, praising the dynamic environment of the small company filled with fresh talent, more suitable for creative designers. Bao Xiaohan questioned if he was expected to lead the design, to which Hou Jue admitted he had reached a "bottleneck" and needed Bao Xiaohan's help, confirming Bao Xiaohan would be the primary designer.

Hou Jue emphasized that traditional, large companies like Zhirong Construction, though extensive, were stifled by rigid thinking and unable to innovate, unlike Hedgehog Workshop, which represented a new era of creativity. Trusting Hou Jue, Bao Xiaohan decided he would only accept half of Hou Jue's salary. Hou Jue then introduced Bao Xiaohan to his colleagues, including Ziheng, the company's Mr. Xiao, who all expressed admiration for Bao Xiaohan's past work, making Bao Xiaohan feel genuinely welcomed and comfortable.

Meanwhile, Lanqi informed Wu Shiyi that he had prepared his villa for her parents, Zhang Yingnan and Wu Tianyi, and suggested Wu Shiyi join them. Wu Shiyi, who had asked her parents not to come, was displeased. Lanqi explained he hoped to reconcile Zhang Yingnan and Wu Tianyi, believing they were too reserved to initiate a reunion themselves. Wu Shiyi reluctantly agreed.

At the villa, Wu Shiyi noticed her father in a wheelchair and was concerned, then suspected he had been drinking again when he mentioned spraining his ankle. Wu Tianyi admitted to spraining his ankle after getting drunk, confirming Zhang Yingnan had picked him up. He promised he had quit drinking. Lanqi then took Wu Tianyi to the yard to play chess, leaving Wu Shiyi and Zhang Yingnan to talk.

Zhang Yingnan asked about Wu Shiyi's work, but Wu Shiyi confessed that the high salary and Lanqi's constant care made her uneasy. She understood Lanqi's and her parents' desire for her to marry him, but insisted that feelings could not be forced or manipulated. Wu Shiyi expressed her desire to forge her own path, much like her mother returned to work by following her inner convictions, and did not want her happiness to rely on others.

Zhang Yingnan sighed, noting Wu Shiyi's stubbornness was inherited from her. Later, as Lanqi drove Wu Shiyi home, she asked him to cease his matchmaking efforts. Having learned from Zhang Yingnan that Wu Tianyi still owed 860,000 yuan, Lanqi offered to pay off her father's debt to lighten her burden. Wu Shiyi, though grateful, declined his help, stating the feeling of owing him such a significant favor was overwhelming and unacceptable.

She reiterated her commitment to resolving her father's financial issues independently. Manager Ma informed Hou Zhirong that Hedgehog Workshop was a new competitor, but Hou Zhirong dismissed them as an insignificant start-up. Soon after, two police officers from the city's economic investigation unit arrived at Zhirong Construction, looking for Hou Zhirong. Manager Ma, recognizing the danger, quickly fled the office.

The officers informed Hou Zhirong that the missing 20 million yuan had been traced to an overseas account before being returned via a local ID from an internet cafe. They presented him with surveillance photos of the masked suspect. Despite the disguise, Hou Zhirong immediately recognized Manager Ma.

Instead of alerting the police, Hou Zhirong feigned an urgent phone call and left to confront Manager Ma, only to find he had already departed, leaving behind a wristwatch Hou Zhirong had gifted him. Feeling profound betrayal from the man he considered his most trusted confidant, Hou Zhirong violently overturned his desk in a fit of rage and sorrow, questioning why Manager Ma would commit such a "stupid" act.

At Hedgehog Workshop, Hou Jue and Bao Xiaohan were engaged in a spirited debate over a design proposal, a sign of their productive collaboration. Meanwhile, Manager Ma sent a message to Hou Jue, warning him that Liu Tiehao, a ruthless individual he had previously hired to intimidate Hou Jue, was about to be released from prison, advising Hou Jue to be cautious.

Manager Ma admitted responsibility for all past incidents, claiming he only intended to scare Hou Jue away, not harm him, and sought forgiveness. Concerned by his father's unusual tone on the phone, Hou Jue called Hou Zhirong, who angrily confirmed Manager Ma had stolen 20 million yuan and disappeared, vowing to find him. Hou Jue rushed to Zhirong Construction. On his way, he messaged Wu Shiyi, revealing Manager Ma as the culprit.

Wu Shiyi, also rushing to Zhirong Construction, had learned that Tian Min, Manager Ma's unpublicized girlfriend, had died in a mudslide while volunteering in a mountain village and was buried at Nanshan Cemetery, suggesting Manager Ma might be there. Upon Wu Shiyi relaying this information, Hou Zhirong finally learned of Manager Ma's secret relationship with Tian Min. In the pouring rain at Nanshan Cemetery, Manager Ma stood by Tian Min's grave, saying goodbye.

He confessed that seeing the police had brought him a strange sense of peace. He finally understood Tian Min's words: revenge brought no happiness, only love could bring peace. When Hou Zhirong confronted him, demanding an explanation, Manager Ma revealed his deep-seated resentment. He stated that despite 13 years of loyal service, treating Zhirong Construction as his home and Hou Zhirong as a father figure, he was always seen as an "outsider" who could never truly inherit the family business.

He recalled overhearing Hou Zhirong tell Hou Jue in the hospital that Manager Ma, despite his diligence, was an outsider with ulterior motives who needed to be watched. This realization shattered his devotion, pushing him to seek revenge by hiring Liu Tiehao to harass Hou Jue and hacking the company's website to transfer 20 million yuan. His initial aim was to force Hou Jue out, but Wu Shiyi's intervention complicated his plans.

He later returned the money because Tian Min's tragic death, which he blamed on his vengeful actions, made him realize the futility of it all. Tian Min had cautioned him against revenge, but he had ignored her, leading to her running away and ultimately her death. He felt he had become just like Hou Zhirong. Hou Zhirong expressed his profound disappointment and despair but, standing before Tian Min's grave, declared that he would not pursue the matter further. He simply wished for Manager Ma to find his own path forward, ending their long association. Manager Ma was then taken into custody by the police.
