Lucky With You Episode 31 Recap
> Lucky With You Recap
Hou Jue understood that Zhang Sheng was the one who had taken his design plan, likely selling it to Hedgehog Factory. He commented that Zhang Sheng had lied to him. Wu Shiyi, having overheard, asked Hou Jue if he had an archived copy of the plan on his computer. When he confirmed, she told him that the archive time would serve as evidence if there was any infringement.
Hou Jue thanked her, and she politely responded that it was why she had come. As Wu Shiyi was about to leave, Hou Jue told her to be careful on her way back. Wu Shiyi smiled, assuring him she could handle herself, saying, "I can play very well." Hou Jue then told her to contact him if she needed anything before she departed. Upon returning to the hotel, Wu Shiyi found Lanqi waiting sternly at her door.
Lanqi reminded her of the rule that if he did not leave the hotel, neither could she. When Wu Shiyi attempted to apologize, Lanqi cut her off, stating he did not want to hear explanations and simply hoped she would not make the same mistake again. Feeling remorseful, Ma Zong discreetly went to an internet cafe and transferred the 20 million yuan he had previously moved back to Zhirong Construction. Hou Zhirong was surprised to receive the funds back.
His assistant reported the good news and asked if it was a system error or human intervention. Hou Zhirong quickly determined it was a deliberate act and instructed the assistant to move the money to another secure company account, emphasizing confidentiality. He also decided to proceed with the police investigation, stating that simply getting the money back should not stop the legal process.
He then called Ma Zong to share the development, and Ma Zong suggested that the person responsible must have had a change of heart. During a hotel employee barbecue, Wu Shiyi remained reserved, contrasting with the relaxed atmosphere. Lanqi, skilled at grilling, was praised by colleagues for his cooking and dessert-making, recalling how girls would fall for him. He and a colleague jokingly bickered about whose culinary skills were more appealing.
Lanqi offered Wu Shiyi a drink, but she declined, citing her work. When he suggested drinking together to be on the "same channel," she firmly stated she would not drink. Lanqi confidently replied that she would with time. Wu Shiyi observed that Lanqi had not changed since childhood, recalling his nickname "Chameleon."
Lanqi acknowledged the nickname, explaining that for someone without a strong background, adapting his protective color to achieve goals was not shameful; it was part of his path to success. Wu Shiyi told him that "the past is the past" and they could not return to how things were, but Lanqi insisted that they could, if she just believed in him. Hou Jue visited Hedgehog Factory to meet Xiao Ziheng, the person in charge.
He explained that the book bar design plan originated from his college project and was given to Zhang Sheng, who had expressed great interest and intended to sign a contract. However, Hou Jue had to leave urgently and sent the plan via email. Hou Jue elaborated on his design philosophy, emphasizing a "chaotic" and communal feel for young people, making spaces not "too much like a company" or "too much like a book bar."
Xiao Ziheng confirmed that Zhang Sheng had indeed interviewed with the same plan, claiming it as his own. Although Xiao Ziheng had purchased Zhang Sheng's plan, their design philosophies did not align. Comparing the two, Xiao Ziheng stated he trusted Hou Jue more and believed his intuition. He asked Hou Jue to prepare all his computer files and a detailed account of the events for the company's legal team to follow up, to which Hou Jue agreed.
Wu Tianyi, seeing Zhang Yingnan's social media post about wanting a cheese pudding from a popular but long-queued store, decided to get it for her. However, when he arrived at the Dongmen Pedestrian Street, he spotted Zhang Yingnan and Li Helin already enjoying the dessert. He approached them, commenting on their "guilty" look. Li Helin offered his seat to Wu Tianyi, who refused. Li Helin quickly left, paying for their dessert.
Wu Tianyi then confronted Zhang Yingnan, accusing Li Helin of having impure motives for taking her to a place meant for young couples. Zhang Yingnan retorted that Wu Tianyi's motives for queuing up were not pure either, and defended Li Helin for simply bringing her directly. She criticized Wu Tianyi for his indirect approach and told him she was free and had no relationship with him.
Wu Tianyi then accused her of being vain, to which she defiantly replied that she was, and dismissed him to "envy, envy, hate." Huang, the Director of Security at Zhirong Construction, visited Hai Xing's restaurant. While Doll, an employee, cheerfully chatted with Huang about their restaurant's popularity and Hai Xing's close friendship with Hou Jue, Hai Xing himself became visibly nervous upon learning Huang was from Zhirong Construction. He quickly became uneasy and retreated from view, drawing Huang's attention.
Later, Huang met with Hou Zhirong, who was recovering from an illness. Huang pointed out that in reviewing the surveillance footage from the day the design plan was lost, they had all overlooked Hai Xing due to his friendship with Hou Jue. However, Hai Xing's recent nervous behavior at his restaurant made him a prime suspect. Hou Zhirong agreed and instructed Huang to have Hai Xing brought in for questioning.
Hai Xing, filled with anxiety over his actions, prayed for good fortune. Doll observed his nervousness, remarking that he acted like a "mouse seeing a cat." Shortly after, Qian Qian arrived to return a bottle. Hai Xing, overly eager, tried to persuade her to stay for a meal, but she politely declined, citing prior engagements. Just as Qian Qian drove off, two men from Zhirong Construction arrived, attempting to "invite" Hai Xing to meet Hou Zhirong.
Hai Xing panicked and tried to flee. Witnessing this from her car, Qian Qian believed Hai Xing was being attacked by thugs and heroically intervened, fighting off the men. Afterward, she tended to Hai Xing's minor injuries, advising him against future altercations and urging him to call the police if he ever needed help with "old hooligans." Hai Xing, downplaying the situation, dismissed her concerns, suggesting he would "talk things over" if they returned.
Meanwhile, Wu Tianyi continued to track Li Helin, covertly filming him on what appeared to be a blind date and sending a photo to Zhang Yingnan, who found his actions "boring." Li Helin, aware of Wu Tianyi's surveillance, confronted him, urging him to be more direct if he truly wanted to reconcile with Zhang Yingnan. Li Helin reiterated that his relationship with Zhang Yingnan was purely platonic.
Infuriated by Li Helin's taunts that Zhang Yingnan would rather be with him than reconcile with Wu Tianyi, Wu Tianyi attempted to physically assault Li Helin, only to break his own phone in the process. Li Helin, unfazed, warned him that his daughter had bought that phone. After Hai Xing returned to his restaurant, a surprised Hou Zhirong was already there, having come to find him.
Hou Zhirong commented on Hai Xing's bandaged hand before suggesting they talk over tea upstairs. Meanwhile, Doll, seeing Hou Zhirong's intimidating presence, called Qian Qian, believing Hai Xing was in trouble again. Upstairs, Hou Zhirong aggressively confronted Hai Xing, demanding to know why he stole the design plan. He dismissed Hai Xing's denials, asserting that Hai Xing, having no use for the plan, must have been manipulated by someone else.
Hou Zhirong, drawing on his many years in the industry, clarified that he only wanted to know who the real mastermind was. As Qian Qian rushed back to the restaurant, she asked Doll downstairs where Hai Xing went and was told he went upstairs with an "uncle." Upstairs, Hou Zhirong changed his tactic, asking how much money Hai Xing took. Hai Xing admitted to receiving 500,000 yuan.
Hou Zhirong expressed disappointment, reminding Hai Xing of his close friendship with Hou Jue and offering to help with any financial difficulties far greater than 500,000. He questioned how Hai Xing could betray his best friend's father for such a small sum, warning that Hou Jue would be devastated if he knew. Hou Zhirong gave Hai Xing one last chance to reveal the instigator, threatening to involve the police and sever Hai Xing's friendship with Hou Jue.
Hai Xing then turned the accusation back on Hou Zhirong, stating he once admired him as a responsible man but now saw him as a "bad" person for severely hurting a woman who loved him. He challenged Hou Zhirong to consider what Hou Jue would think of "that". Hai Xing declared that the 500,000 was irrelevant; he stole the plan solely for revenge.
He refused to name the instigator, fully admitting to his crime, but insisted Hou Zhirong was "even more guilty" for "stealing a heart" and then crushing it. Hou Zhirong realized Hai Xing was referring to Qian Qian, surprised, and asked about their relationship, assuming she had no boyfriend. Hai Xing clarified that they had no formal relationship, but he unilaterally loved her and was pursuing her when Hou Zhirong "took her away."
He was willing to accept this because Hou Zhirong could provide for her happiness in ways he couldn't, but he could not tolerate Hou Zhirong making her more miserable. He called Hou Zhirong an "old scumbag" and a "bastard."
