During an emergency mountain search for a missing hiker, Wu Shiyi, acting as Hou Jue's bodyguard, diligently stayed close to him. When a rescue team member tumbled down a slope behind them, Wu Shiyi rushed to help. Hou Jue turned to find her gone and, assuming she had simply wandered off, continued ahead to rejoin the main group.

As night fell, Hou Jue became disoriented, accidentally slipped, and plunged down a cliff, catching himself on a tree where he called for help. The rescue operation was suspended due to heavy fog. Wu Shiyi, realizing Hou Jue was missing, immediately reported it to the captain. The captain, after expressing frustration with Hou Jue's lack of discipline, initially prepared to go himself, but Wu Shiyi volunteered, stating, "Don't worry, I have received professional training."

The team member Wu Shiyi had just saved intervened, explaining that Wu Shiyi had lost track of Hou Jue while saving the team member, and emphasizing the captain was needed elsewhere. The captain agreed, giving Wu Shiyi his equipment and instructing her and the rescued team member to find Hou Jue, and if the fog remained, to stay put once found. Wu Shiyi and the team member searched, calling out for Hou Jue.

Wu Shiyi heard startled birds and deduced someone was in the C West District. Following traces of a slide, she found Hou Jue clinging to a tree. The captain, now present, quickly threw a rope down. As Hou Jue began to climb, he noticed someone below him, inadvertently leading to the rescue of the long-lost hiker, Shi Aishan. The incident brought back painful memories for Hou Jue, who returned home and secluded himself in his room, not saying a word.

Sister Zhang, noticing his somber mood, confided in Wu Shiyi that Hou Jue was missing his mother. She explained that Hou Jue's strained relationship with his father, Hou Zhirong, stemmed from his belief that Hou Zhirong was largely responsible for his mother's death. He felt that his father’s neglect during a busy period led to his mother's emotional distress, causing her to drive out and have the fatal car accident.

Sister Zhang fondly recalled Hou Jue's mother as a beautiful and kind woman, who played the violin in an orchestra before becoming a full-time wife. She had stayed with the family to raise Hou Jue out of gratitude and pity for the child who had lost his mother so young. When Hou Jue missed his mother, he would always withdraw and refuse to speak.

Wu Shiyi, seeking to comfort him, brought Hou Jue a cup of hot chocolate and a small, vintage toy car she retrieved from her luggage. She recounted the story behind the car: a gift from a bullied, impoverished classmate whom only she, a strong member of the school's sports team, befriended. Before she left for boarding school, the boy, her best friend, gave her his most cherished possession.

Wu Shiyi explained that she never forgot his kindness and would look at the car for warmth and strength during difficult times. Unsure how else to console Hou Jue, she offered him the toy car, hoping it would give him strength too. Hou Jue, holding the car, felt "full of power." The next morning, to Wu Shiyi's surprise, Hou Jue was up early to join her for her routine run.

He jokingly asked why she ran in the rain, to which she replied that training knows no weather, "Even if it's raining knives, I'd still run." Meanwhile, Mary instructed Fang Lu on how to undermine Wu Shiyi and win back Hou Jue. Fang Lu, initially hesitant to deceive Hou Jue, changed her mind, believing Wu Shiyi had already "attacked" her, and resolved to follow Mary's instructions to win Hou Jue back.

Separately, Bao Xiaohan saw a wedding photo of Hou Jue and Fang Lu on social media and mistakenly believed Hou Jue was getting married. He splurged on an expensive swan figurine set, chosen for its auspicious meaning, and brought it as a congratulatory gift to Hou Zhirong.

Hou Zhirong, having heard nothing of a marriage, was furious when he saw the photo and, assuming Hou Jue was deliberately trying to anger him by choosing someone he deemed inferior to Huang Yue, immediately summoned Hou Jue to his office. Hou Jue, without denying the impending marriage, provocatively claimed his "fiancée" was after his money, while he was after her beauty, asserting it was a mutually beneficial arrangement.

He even suggested Hou Zhirong find a wife and have a double wedding. Enraged, Hou Zhirong reminded Hou Jue that his household registration book was in his possession, preventing a legal marriage. Unfazed, Hou Jue declared he would proceed with a grand wedding without a marriage certificate, leaving his father speechless with fury. Later, Fang Lu messaged Hou Jue on WeChat, tearfully apologizing and begging him to reply.

She then called him, crying hysterically, explaining that when he gave her the necklace on the beach, she was so overwhelmed with happiness and attention that she exaggerated, telling everyone he was her fiancé and had proposed. This led the directors to plan a special segment, making other girls envious. Hou Jue, forgivingly, told her to stop crying, that the matter was "over," and advised her to learn from the experience and return to her "simple and lovely" self.

Fang Lu then invited him to dinner to apologize in person, and Hou Jue accepted, stating he also had something to ask her. During dinner, Fang Lu subtly slandered Wu Shiyi by recounting a fabricated story about a "scumbag" boyfriend and his "slag honey"—a term she defined as a "scumbag-like best friend"—who, out of jealousy, spread rumors about his "girlfriend." Fang Lu's narrative implicitly accused Wu Shiyi of being jealous of her and speaking ill of her.

Hou Jue defended Wu Shiyi, saying she was a quiet person and would never speak ill of anyone. Still, Fang Lu expressed fear of Wu Shiyi and suggested she needed to "get along well with her," then directly invited Wu Shiyi to join them, which Wu Shiyi politely declined. Later, Hou Jue asked Fang Lu why she wasn't wearing the necklace he gave her.

Fang Lu explained she loved it too much to wear and feared it might be stolen, so she carried it in her handbag to feel at ease. Hou Jue found this odd. When Hou Jue went to the restroom, Fang Lu followed. Unbeknownst to Hou Jue, Fang Lu had conspired with Mary, who, disguised as a pregnant woman, had already entered the women's restroom. Inside the restroom, Fang Lu gave the real necklace to Mary, who performed the switch.

Upon exiting the restroom, Fang Lu handed her bag to Wu Shiyi, claiming it was inconvenient for her to hold. Upon returning, Fang Lu frantically searched her bag for the necklace, then, glancing at Wu Shiyi, demanded the manager close the restaurant and search for the "thief," accusing Wu Shiyi. When the manager offered to call the police due to the high value of the missing item, Hou Jue tried to de-escalate, suggesting she might have simply misplaced it.

Fang Lu, however, clung to Wu Shiyi, preventing her from leaving, insistent on pressing charges. At the police station, Fang Lu and Wu Shiyi presented conflicting accounts. Hou Jue, unaware of the full scheme, was bewildered. Fang Lu claimed she showed Hou Jue the necklace at dinner, then handed her bag to Wu Shiyi before entering the restroom, and upon exiting, found the necklace missing.

Wu Shiyi stated that Fang Lu gave her the bag after returning from the restroom, and she held it for "five to ten seconds" without opening it, then moved to a monitored area. Wu Shiyi pointed out a "visual blind area" where Fang Lu handed her the bag and mentioned seeing a pregnant woman quickly leave the restroom. Fang Lu denied seeing anyone.

After leaving the police station, Wu Shiyi received a call from Zhao Zong, her boss, informing her of a complaint and her immediate recall for investigation. Hou Jue, realizing Fang Lu had filed the complaint, angrily confronted her, asserting she had no right to do so. Fang Lu, still feigning innocence, accused Wu Shiyi of being a "shady" person and urged Hou Jue not to keep such a person by his side, oblivious to his growing displeasure.

Hou Jue ordered Wu Shiyi to get in the car. He then pulled Fang Lu aside and directly accused her of intentionally framing Wu Shiyi, suggesting the necklace was never actually lost. Fang Lu vehemently denied it, reiterating her status as a "victim" and the necklace's immense value to her. She even justified her complaint to Zhao Zong by stating Hou Jue was too soft-hearted to deal with "such wrongdoing".

Growing frustrated by Fang Lu's unwavering pretense, Hou Jue gave up trying to reason with her and got into the car. He told Wu Shiyi he would go to her company to explain to Zhao Zong that Fang Lu had no right to complain. Wu Shiyi, however, informed him of company policy: any flaw during a mission results in immediate recall for investigation.

When Hou Jue pressed if she knew more, Wu Shiyi replied that his personal life was outside her work scope. Suddenly, Wu Shiyi made a U-turn, heading back towards the restaurant, stating she "cannot give up any possible clue."
