Love a Lifetime Episode 10 Recap
> Love a Lifetime Recap
Nalan Yue had arranged for the antidote to be sent back to Lingxu Pavilion, but it was ambushed on the way by Liuli and her subordinates from the Snow Union. Pretending to be ordinary escorts, Nalan Yue's disciples were quickly defeated, and all sacrificed themselves trying to protect the antidote. Liuli, confident in her ability to execute tasks for the Snow Union Leader, confirmed she had secured the antidote and ordered her men to bury the fallen, leaving no trace.
Cang Qi, dispatched by Nalan Yue to provide assistance, arrived shortly after the ambush. Finding no antidote and the escorts dead, he ordered his men to search thoroughly for clues while he returned to report the grave news. Meanwhile, Mei Xueman arrived at Lingxu Pavilion, seeking Lin Ruohan's help for her brother Mei Ying, who was rumored to have killed Master Xiao and been arrested by Dragon Howl City.
Lin Ruohan, though appearing frail, reassured Mei Xueman that Nalan Yue in Dragon Howl City would protect Mei Ying, and invited her to stay for her safety. Shortly after, Lin Ruohan coughed up blood and collapsed, exhibiting bewildering and severe symptoms. Just then, Cang Qi returned, confirming the antidote had been intercepted by assailants who seemed to know Lingxu Pavilion intimately.
Mei Xueman immediately deduced that a spy must be lurking near Nalan Yue, urging Cang Qi to send a warning to him as Dragon Howl City was no longer safe. Unexpectedly, Lin Ruohan, still in a dazed state, sprang up and began choking Cang Qi. It was only when Mei Xueman repeatedly called out Nalan Yue's name that Lin Ruohan's consciousness returned, revealing the terrifying effects of the Chihua Pill's backfire, which could turn victims against their closest loved ones.
In Dragon Howl City, Lin Jing and Lu Yizhou were anxious about the prolonged absence of the antidote messengers. Lin Jing tried to reassure Lu Yizhou, citing the prowess of Lingxu Pavilion's elite disciples and Cang Qi's support. However, rumors quickly spread among the maids about the handsome Mei Ying and his remarkable skill in making a dormant red plum tree blossom, even astonishing Rong Hua, who sought his advice.
Lu Yizhou, observing this, warned Lin Jing that Mei Ying was "more difficult to deal with than we had expected" and suggested finding a way to get him out of Dragon Howl City. Mei Ying, who had initially intended to retrieve his family's manual himself but was thwarted by Bai Weizhi's prowess guarding the Hall of Seniority, capitalized on Rong Hua's naivety.
He confided in her that Dragon Howl City's prized martial arts manuals, including his Mei family's Qimen Dunjia, were obtained through coercion from various sects, not willingly given. This tale stirred Rong Hua's compassion. When Lin Jing arrived, Mei Ying deliberately presented a red plum to Rong Hua, further fueling Lin Jing's jealousy. Lin Jing, denying his jealousy despite Rong Hua's teasing, swiftly pulled her away.
Lin Jing was summoned to the meeting hall, where Rong Jingfeng announced his punishment for the destruction of the previous antidote: a month of spreading manure in the Herbal Garden, with no one allowed to assist him. Rong Hua protested, deeming it a "filthy job," but her father was unyielding. Rong Su, meanwhile, found the punishment fitting for Lin Jing. Enduring the daily stench, Lin Jing was even avoided by Lu Yizhou.
One evening, as Bai Weizhi prepared chicken soup for Zi Yan, Lin Jing attempted to steal some, but Bai Weizhi, repulsed by his smell, declared the entire pot ruined. Meanwhile, Rong Hua, convinced of Mei Ying's plight, discreetly returned his family's Qimen Dunjia manual from the Hall of Seniority, believing it was the right thing to do.
Rong Su witnessed this exchange and, after Rong Hua departed, confronted Mei Ying, mocking his manipulation and dismissing the manual before tossing it aside. Mei Ying, though humiliated, silently vowed to bide his time. He began diligently studying the Qimen Dunjia manual, quickly mastering its intricacies. He later demonstrated his improved skills by trapping Lin Jing in a plum array.
Mei Ying then openly declared his growing affection for Rong Hua, provocatively telling Lin Jing that he was not a suitable match for her and he would actively compete for her love. That same night, Mo Huan stealthily entered Lin Ruohan's inner chambers, where she lit a Chihua Pill leaf, explaining that its smoke would intensify the ongoing backfire of the poison in Lin Ruohan's system.
As Lin Ruohan writhed in agony, Mo Huan mockingly reminisced about Lin Ruohan being her most brilliant disciple in the Ling Sect, now reduced to a pitiable state just to prolong her life. Lin Ruohan, however, defiantly countered, accusing Mo Huan of trying to kill her and pointing out Mo Huan's own desolate existence, surrounded by no trustworthy individuals, not even Rong Su, whom she had raised.
Lin Ruohan's words struck a nerve, as Mo Huan's own health was secretly failing due to her martial practices. After this bitter exchange, Mo Huan injected an antidote into Lin Ruohan, asserting she had saved her. She then warned Lin Ruohan that this rescue was merely a lesson in the Chihua Pill's power, and without future antidotes, Nalan Yue might eventually have to end her life.
Mo Huan then proposed a powerful alliance between Lingxu Pavilion and the Ling Sect to take revenge on Rong Jingfeng, promising Lin Ruohan continued antidotes if she chose to be her ally. Later, Rong Jingfeng visited Mei Ying, outwardly praising his flower-tending abilities but secretly probing his true intentions for remaining in Dragon Howl City.
Mei Ying feigned indifference to life and death, claiming he had already achieved his revenge by killing Master Xiao and had no desire to leave Dragon Howl City alive. However, Rong Jingfeng subtly tested Mei Ying with a low-power palm strike, which Mei Ying instinctively blocked with internal energy, injuring himself. Rong Jingfeng deduced that Mei Ying was far from indifferent to death, revealing his true vigilance.
Pressing further, Rong Jingfeng challenged Mei Ying to consider his "value" to Dragon Howl City. Mei Ying then revealed an old sword scar on his chest, claiming it was from a fight with Lingxu Pavilion. To explain why they were after him, he concocted a story: he was involved in seizing the Chihua Pill from the Tang Sect. He dramatically revealed that after this, he was pursued by Lingxu Pavilion members.
Crucially, he added that Rong Hua was also present at the Tang Sect during the incident, so Lingxu Pavilion was chasing both of them, unable to determine who actually had the Chihua Pill. Mei Ying dared Rong Jingfeng to confirm his story with Rong Hua. Rong Jingfeng, expressing skepticism, still left Mei Ying to ponder his true worth. Later, Mei Ying, alone, mused that his "value" was far beyond Rong Jingfeng's comprehension.
Concurrently, at the Hall of Life, Rong Su's subordinates aggressively demanded medicine, showing blatant disrespect for the rules. Lin Jing, as the Hall Master, publicly rebuked their arrogance, emphasizing the need for unity among Dragon Howl City's four halls against external threats coveting the Chihua Pill. He even offered the Hall of Life's "unconditional and wholehearted" support to the Hall of Emptiness.
The subordinates, however, dismissed Lin Jing as an "outsider" who had merely stumbled into his position, boasting about the Hall of Emptiness's superior strength. Rong Jingfeng, having overheard their disrespectful conduct, intervened decisively. He publicly chastised his daughter's subordinates, ordering them to punish themselves by striking their own mouths, and reiterated that the four halls were meant to be competitors, not enemies, warning against any future insolence.
After dismissing them, Rong Jingfeng questioned Lin Jing about the day he rescued Rong Hua. Lin Jing, surprised, clarified that he had not known the attackers were from Lingxu Pavilion and had only just learned this from Rong Jingfeng, who had apparently heard it from Mei Ying about Lingxu Pavilion's pursuit of both Mei Ying and Rong Hua after the Chihua Pill was taken.
